Revolvers other than S&W and Ruger?
« on: September 20, 2010, 12:58:17 PM »
I may be looking to pick up a wheel gun soon and was wondering if any of you have had experiences with revolvers other than Smith & Wesson and Ruger. Let's add Colt to that list too.

Just looking from something less expensive but still reliable. Does anyone know of a revolver like that?

2A,

There is a load of revolvers on gunsamerica.com for 5 bills and under. I would stick with S&W or Ruger if given the choice. I saw several that were on clik away from being in my possession...gotta stop going on that site..
Relax, I've banned myself..

In addition to Ruger and S&W, I own revolvers from High Standard, Taurus, and Uberti.  Haven't had a Colt yet, I don't think.  They all work well or I wouldn't keep them.

Taurus has an unconditional lifetime warranty.  They honor it hassle-free.  I like that.

Personally, I like S & W revolvers, but I will not turn down a Colt if the model and price is right.
Colt snubs usually hold 6 whille S & Ws hold 5.  I have both.  Colts are more costly because they aren't made.
Lots of people do not like the Lock on the new Smiths.  I have a couple with lock and have never used it.

Rugers are Tanks and tend to be on the heavy side.  Double actions wouldn't hurt if it gets an action job.

I Prefer a magnum Smith over an semi auto, mainly because I know any of my magnums with any of my target loads Will
penetrate almost any current made automobile door.  Magnum loads will go Thru both sides of any new car.
Will also penetrate Back to front and stop in the dashboard or engine block.  I should qualify by saying any Smith 41 cal and up
will do the car penetration.

Get to the gun show first and if you're lucky, there may be someone selling a reasonably priced Smith.  Colts are usually more expensive.

At the previous shows, I was offered a nice S & W 41 mag with wood box at a price lower than that of the mainland.  I passed since I have at least 2 of that same model

Speaking of shooting through cars, anyone ever check out the site "box'o truth" or "buick'o truth"? Pretty much every caliber tested passed through the buick.

Tom, what Tauri models do you have/recommend?

tonsofguns, I've definitely been to The Box O' Truth. It's nice to see how they run things.

I think the only Taurus I have right now is the 9-shot .22 revolver.  Don't think they're making it at the moment.  As far as recommend, I'd happily try any of them.  Don't expect the buttery smooth action of a high-end Smith!  Honestly, though, I haven't shot any of their new line yet.  Looking forward to the opportunity, though!

Yea those are crazy expensive. The only reason my friend bought one is because we could buy them at cost. Ahh, the perks of owning the store right.
