There've been some intra-office e-mails lately about the upcoming United Way drive. This is just a reminder that you can specifically designate the charity to which you wish to contribute --usually by a code number.
There are a number of firearms-related charities which you can choose, including, of course, the NRA and the NRA-ILA (Institute for Legislative Action.)
You may have to "push" a little to find the charity codes, but in our office a brochure containing all the codes for all the charities is freely available on request.
I used to contribute a whole American dollar to it, all 100 pennies, just so our group could hit the "100%" goal until I found this out, and now I kick in a lot more, but designate certain gun-related organizations (guess which).
This "designated charity" option prevents your hard-earned money from going to certain <ahem> "charities" which you wish would just disappear.
In fact, if you get the brochure, look through the list of "charities" and you will be amazed at some of the garbage organizations which benefit from an undesignated donation.
Just FYI, and tell your "sympatico" buddies about this option.
