Savage Target Action.
« on: October 12, 2010, 06:07:55 PM »
It's finally here!  :D After months of waiting and pain!

If anyone is not familiar with the process that I had to go through to get this action check out my post on THR.

I Have taken possession of my Savage Target Action from my FFL today!
Grand total of 24 weeks has passed from the time my card was charged to time of delivery.
I am no judge of action smoothness, but it looks like the work they did on it is exellent. Bolt lift is smooth and easy, and looks like he has trued the bolt face and locking lug ramps. Target trigger (I didn't have SSS do any work done to that) is very light, no detectable creep or overtravel, and very crisp. I think I will up the pull weight a little to prevent trigger from locking up if the bolt is closed too enthusiastically.

My stock (LTV), has still not arrived yet. But now, at least, I have some example of workmanship I can trust. I will update when I receive my stock and complete the project.

Yay!

Don't wait for the stock, get on out to the range!  I promise it will still go bang!

(Just kidding... PLEASE don't do that to yourself or your rifle!)

Yep. hehe I've had 200 NIB 6mmbr Lapua cases, dies, SR primers, and Varget waiting for months!  I have had 50 prepped and primed cases waiting to get a charge of Varget and 500 .243 Sierra Match King bullets waiting in a sealed ammo can for a month.
Things we do when we are bored.. :P

Well, the stock came in this week!   ;D   I took it out of the wrapper slapped on the action and loaded up some rounds.  Kinda in a rush to use this rifle at the next F-Class coming up on Sunday.

The darn barrel channel is a little off center! :grrr:   I am hoping when I get it bedded the smith can fix it up a little.

Put together some loads to try out and wasn't too impressed at first.  Worked up to 30.4 grains of Varget and bullet 'at the lands'.

That was the best load at that seating depth, so I tried some .010 into the lands and .010 'jumped'.  Best so far was .010 ITL.

One group I got into the 'ones', Except for a darn flier!  Can't I just not count that one?? ::)

According to On Target software the four holes together is .118" ctc, with the lone bugger out to the right, .552.

I'm gonna try this load at the match and see how it goes, then I have to take it all apart and finish the stock.  It's still bare wood. :P I'll try not to get it stained up, ahh what the heck it'll give it character. hehe

Nice shooting. You should do a little better than that 30-06.Does the barrel touch the stock at all? Is that the Sightron mounted up there?

The barrel is free floated to the recoil lug, and the same sightron. Great scope IMO.  ;D
