I am in the military and need a sample commanders memo that states that I have been trained to use a hangun. Does anyone know where I can find one?

+1, couple friends got denied at HPD because they did not have their letter notarized even though the CO signed it.

This is just my understanding (navy).  The XO has notarization authority, in turn he passes that authority to his admin personnel(one designated person in this instance) and they do the notarization of the letter after the CO signs.  That's at least what happened in my situation.  But hey, what do I know.... I'm just a enlisted guy   :geekdanc:

+1.  Since it was my Platoon Sergeant signing "By Direction," we took it to base legal to get it notarized just in case.  If your CO doesn't want to do it as a notary, then base legal should do it for free.

If I'm reading this website correctly under notes and amendments, the power for a commander to act as a notary was removed in 1990.  Which makes sense since in each Army Battalion there is a paralegal assigned who does notaries.  Wouldn't need one if commanders could do it.

How can you be a notary to your own signature? The notary is suppose to be someone with authority to witness the signature other than the person signing the document.

A commander would be notarizing the fact that you completed such training.

I take it in the past, a commander could observe and notarize a document someone else signed.  Therefore in the past, 2 commanders would have to sign a gun training document.  One is the Soldiers commander verifying training, the second is a different commander notarizing the document.

The CO signature is good as long as you are dealing only with the Military. Once that document goes outside the Military into the civilian sector, the documents must be signed by a notary.
