what's the going rate for 30-06 ammo? I haven't looked around but I've heard it's hard to find...

I know 300 win mag going for around $2.50 - $3 per round.....

Any prices on 7mm-08?

There is plenty of 30-06 at sports authority, about 18-20.00 a box of 20. Winchester. Nice to see someone else using this big kick!  :D

Get some surplus 30-06 from CMP while they still have it. 200 rounds is about $115/shipped to your door.

The CMP ammo I've purchased has never been corrosive.  My 30-06 has come in those military spam cans.  The CMP salesperson just told me to inspect the ammo when I get them because over time, ammo can deteriorate and corrode.  Remember, you have to be affiliated with a CMP authorized organization in order to purchase from them.  I signed up for the M1 Collectors Association, but there are other groups including LE, military, etc.

Depends on where they come from and when they are manufactured (really goes to what primer is used).  Typically South African is corrosive.

It's just the way the primer is constructed.  So long as you clean it in a reasonable frame of time, it's not an issue, and yes it's about cost.

With corrosive what happens is crystals form as byproducts of the primer chemical reaction.  Those crystals like moisture and help to promote rusting.  Cleaning is not a pain.  You can just run water down the barrel/action and clean normally after that.

Bought quite a few boxes of 300wm locally lately and the average price seems to be about 32 bucks a box ( of 20 )... Not talking about anything too exotic but your basic off the shelf ammo isin't quite as expensive as you thought
