I haven't been seeing the herds in our area like we used to. Theres lots of tracks through so not sure if its wrong time of day or they only coming out at night. Other guys that work the same area as us haven't been seeing the deer too. Lots of fences been cut recently too, so areas the deer would hide and rest have been getting pushed out. Leads me to believe the deer are always on the move and not staying in areas long or got pushed out completely. Hopefully they come back soon.
This is only what I've seen in our area. I'm sure other areas are different.
We suppose to hunt the weekend so I'll let you know how it looks then.

Variable winds really sucked and the deer was extremely skiddish.  Got a spike and a doe.  Still happy to have had a good adventure in the great outdoors!

I had the pleasure of hunting on Lana'i this weekend and was fortunate to harvest these two animals. Both were taken deep in the valley so you can only imagine how much work it took for me to get them out.

The weather was sunny and hot; I cant' wait for deer season. Cheeeehoooo!

Nice... How far did you have to shoot? What is your set up? Looks like you have a long action .270 or .30-06.

Small boar I got last friday, 29 Aug.  One head shot using a .218 BEE.  Have yet to try the smoke meat my Unko made from this.

Thanks gunner for the comments.

It's is a LA  Ruger 7mm, with a Timney trigger bedded action, and a 3.5-10x40 Leupold Boone Crockett.

The ewe was shot at 268ish yds on the run after missing a similar ewe at 130 same herd.  Go figure.  I probably would have done better if I closed my eyes.
The non-typical ram was taken at 134 yds.  The shot was a pass though at the shoulders, it ran with another ewe behind the mountain and I  loss sight of it. Thinking that I missed, I sat bewildered and upset with myself on my performance.  After a few minutes, I saw the ewe it was with across a washout without the ram.  Knowing that they stay together, I decided to take a look.  It took me about 1/2 hr. to get to the other side of the mountain.  As I approached, some spots of blood were spotted. Following the trail of blood back to where I shot it, I found a significant amount of blood with bone fragments.  I knew then it was a good shot. Slowly making my way on the blood trail, the ram was spotted approximately 50 yds away in a ravine.  I was ecstatic. The pack out was brutal, but well worth the experience.
