OK, The AWB is Basically Dead. When Will This Madness End?

So now that the AWB is almost dead. I know it could come back. But basically it is all but dead at this point. The scare across the country should ease, right? Or will it? I want to know how long do you think this madness of ammo shortages and outrageous prices is going to last and why?

I read the ammo shortage might not get better till the end of the year
Give them nothing. But take from them, everything

Once the ammo production starts to pick up and people stop buying every single box they find then things will get better.  Supply and demand. Give it to the end of this month or April

My personal opinion is that it will last longer than a couple of months. What Obama and Feinstein on the federal level have done (as well as Espero and others on the state level) is to show the reality of how close gun owners are to losing their rights. The fear, panic, and paranoia caused by that, as well as so many new gun owners has fueled the madness. Espero complained that all this legislation talk has "backfired" and caused people to rush and buy more guns and ammo. He's right, and that's what happens when you threaten to take away law-abiding gun owners rights. Espero must think gun owners are idiots.

From my non-scientific and highly subject opinion.  Assuming no mass shootings, I foresee another 6 months before things returning back to how things were 4 months ago.

seems like after the last election panic, it took until summer 2010 until ammo was cheap and readily available
and this is without a sandy hook situation

I have some AR parts orders that were placed late November that are still on backoreder. Primer backorder from December with no shipping time frame. And .22 ammo backorder from January which I am being told is another 6 months.

I think it's going to take a long, long time to straighten the market out.  Like it's been said, this was the worst round of panic buying probably ever.  (Although I wasn't around when the NFA '34 was being debated.)  On top of that you have a whole slew of new shooters, like my uncle.  The guy is well into his fifties, and doesn't have a tacticool bone in his body.  In fact, he's about the closest you'd expect to find to a real-life Elmer Fudd.  He shoots recreationally only on occasion, usually to sight in his rifle before the fall hunting season starts.  The only guns I know of him having were a shotgun, a couple of hunting rifles, and a .22 revolver, all in their most innocous, Feinswine-approved walnut finery--at least until last month.  Based on all the BS coming out of Washington, he is now the perplexing owner of a brand-new AR-15.  I don't think he's the only one, either.  Obama is the gun salesman of the century, not just because he got all of us yahoos to run out and spend three paychecks on yet another black rifle and ammo (myself included, of course), but because he got so many new shooters to buy their first AR.  I think my uncle is one of many who will crimp the market for a long time to come, not because they're hoarding ammo or gun parts, but simply because I think there are a ton of them, and if they each want a few hundred rounds of ammo and a couple of cool gadgets, their total purchasing power is substantial.

Don't get me wrong, I love everything about it.  New shooters coming on board is never bad, and I think the Democrats very well may have inadvertently shut the door on new gun regulations and birthed a full-scale revival of the American gun culture.  Thanks, Berry!

The madness will never end as long as there are bleeding heart liberals. It will have its ebbs and flows but we will never be outright free and clear. What I forsee in the next year is the market will tame from panic prices to a more reasonable point but gone are the days of $300-$400 aks and $600-$800 ars. Market has show that people are willing to pay a higher, inflated price. Look at cell phones. The first smart phones were in the $200 dollars range and as every new model came out they got progressively more expensive. Now your looking at $400-$500. Sure they can do more and more but the price of technology has a downward slope like flat screen tvs. Tvs started $5000 for a plasma. Now most highend wireless, hd, large screen, led tv are like $2500.

The other thing to look at is there are more new shooters to compete with for ammo, parts, mags, optics etc. That higher demand will come out of our pockets. Don't get me wrong I'm all for more new shooters. The more we can make firearms ownership mainstream, the less popular the antigunners become. It willbe a lot harder to convince a larger number of people to vote for people who wants to take their rights away. That's when prices and will truley fall. Guns, ammo and reloading supplies would be sold at drugstores again for those of you who go back that far. That's not the case at all today though so get out there and encourage a newbie to buy their first gun.

Not dead. Alive still possibly as a zombie amendment.

This guy compiled some videos of Feinstein and Reid saying that it will be an amendment, similar to how it got enacted in 1994.
This video is exactly what I thought when everyone started boasting on the forums about the AWB is dead. There is the mid-term elections to worry about, potential amendments to crime bills, potential executive actions, etc. As long as Obama is president, there is always that fear. Imagine if they win the house back, which I doubt but you never know. Or what if another mass shooting with a AK/AR occurs in the near future to light the match again. Still have the hi-cap mag bill to contend with too and even our state legislators could potentially make another run at it if we have another mass shooting. Jus saying...
