On the evening of March 5, nine agents from the California Department of Justice, wearing bulletproof vests and carrying Glock pistols, assembled outside a ranch-style house in a Los Angeles suburb. They were preparing to confiscate weapons from a gun owner who’d recently lost the right to possess firearms after spending two days in a psychiatric hospital. They knocked on the door and asked to come in. These touchy encounters sometimes end in anger and, occasionally, handcuffs. This time, the agents came out peacefully with three guns. Then it was on to the next stop on the list for that night.

California is the only state that takes legally obtained weapons away from citizens who are no longer supposed to have them...

The same is legal here, if I understand correctly.

I haven't heard of armed LEO's coming to the house, but if you have a TRO or conviction that prohibits you from acquiring firearms you are then required to turn in any firearms you have, are you not?

^^^Yup, but I doubt we task our LEO's to do that.  I think they are only removed if they go to the peoples' houses looking for them for some other reason than a TRO.........maybe if the guy is wanted on a warrant and they pull info that he's got firearms, then they take them.

I believe my neighbor on my street had his guns collected from his home by hpd. I don't think hpd did the collection with guns drawn. Not sure if guns were drawn in this situation in California but the hpd officers were wearing bulletproof vests too.

The two situations may be different because my neighbor has multiple TRO's aginst him. Bottom line is HPD went to collect these guns like the article pointed out.

When you go to court for TRO they ask if you have firearms.  Then they ask you to turn them in and make an appointment to pick them up. Or you have to drop them off or you have to turn them in to a FFL.  Your rifles may get transferred to someone else.  If you want to transfer pistols you need to have a FFL aquire them temporarily.

If you have to turn in your firearms for any reason, would it be possible to sell it to someone before then? Just wondering cuz someone I know had to turn theirs in but I wanted to buy it first

They really don't "ask", it's a blanket condition of the TRO/protective order imposed at the preliminary hearing. Whether one owns firearms or not, they always check off the box that reads: Defendant has X days to turn in all firearms and ammunition.

You can, but it's not an option the courts give. Honestly, if someone is ordered by the court to do something and they have any interest in getting their stuff back? The best bet is to show full and quick compliance, then let an FFL do any transfer/sale.
