Gun prices are dropping!
« on: March 30, 2013, 06:31:27 PM »
I've been watching the various websites and I have noticed that the gun prices are beginning to drop.  I guess everyone finally figured out that they aren't going to ban guns because most of the legislation is getting shot down.

I feel for all the guys that bought into the hype and paid $2000 for a $600 gun.  :wtf:

Anyway it's always a good thing when the market stabilizes.

I think it has more to do with the supply. Guns are hitting the shelves at a more frequent pace. Still not fast enough though. Be sometime before we see stable prices and supply. More likely by the fall if not later. The one key sign is all of those guy trying to dump all the$1500 sporter ar's and $60 pmags.

I hope so!  Have a couple of stuff in mind that I'd like to buy once the prices get back to pre-panic.
I think, therefore I am armed.

Yes I noticed too that things are slowly beginning to reappear and prices are coming down (emphasis on slowly).  The best way to lower prices is to NOT pay panic prices.  Let those who are trying to sell guns and ammo at 2-300% mark up get stuck with it.

The value of anything is very subjective.

If I were buying it, I'd pay no more than $1000 for it.

If I were selling it, I'd try to get $1500 for it.

+1, agree!

Supply and demand definitely factor into the equation, but there are also other intrinsic values that an individual may place on a particular object/product.

You also got these guys see people selling guns and ammo for crazy prices and think they can cash in. I don't blame them so much as I blame the idiots buying pmags for a $100 and WASR aks for $1500. These are the guys that are keeping the prices up as dealers gotta protect their business. That's where supply and demand comes in. Dealers don't know when and if they will get replenish shipments in so they have mark up prices just to stay open. A vicious cycle to say the least.

I have noticed a lot of the mfg's are posting that lead times are getting back down to the 2 week time frame! I was laughing at the folks on gunbroker.com trying to convince me that the Saiga 12's are "unable to get anymore". Was going to buy one local, but I saved 1200 purchasing through a mfg. Local business will still get me for 1500 or so when I go and buy my two pistols shortly.

Simple Supply-Demand.

Before: Demand is high, so higher prices.
Now: Demand is low, so lower prices.

AFAIK, dealer costs didn't change though, at least not what I've seen from our distributors.

Letter from Big Rock to their dealers, one of the largest distributors in the country::

Big Rock Dealers:

I sent a letter to everyone just prior to the opening of our January shows to inform you of the major changes we were seeing in regards to the scarcity of ammunition and select firearms in the marketplace. At that time, I also mentioned that we were not certain as to how vendors would approach these market conditions.

For the first time ever, we are seeing vendors refuse to honor pricing on the remaining back orders we have placed to support our shows. This is precedent setting and aggravating to say the least. Not all vendors have taken this position, but several of the majors have. ATK, Remington, Bushmaster, DPMS and others are re-pricing all open orders immediately or on April 1.

Big Rock Sports cannot absorb these price increases and still honor show pricing. We will be forced to raise the prices on open show orders as a direct result of the material price increases we are seeing from these vendors. As an example, ATK has raised promo ammunition by as much as 10–15%. Big Rock Sports will implement these price updates on April 1.

Here are some key points to help guide you through these price changes:

If you want to keep your orders in place at the newly established market prices, you do not need to take any action.

If you would like to see the impact of these price changes, your salesperson or customer service representative can answer these questions.

If you would like to cancel any of your show back orders based on these price changes, please contact your salesperson to discuss the details, or you can also discuss this with your customer service representative.

Thank you for your understanding. Our team will do everything possible to help guide you through these changing market conditions.

Best regards,

-snip-

The distributors that we use are Sports South and Williams Shooter Supply. But I stand corrected.
