Gf - the potential convert
« on: October 24, 2010, 05:04:29 PM »
I just wanted to share that I took gf out to the range yesterday and she enjoyed it. Shooting-wise it was probably the worst time I've ever had. I've never owned a .22lr before and I was trying to zero my scope, which is something else I've never owned before. I had NO idea where the shots were going and ended up killing my target frame after 2 cycles. Huge chunk of wood tore off.

Before getting to the range, I forgot my ear plugs so we did a quick stop at WGS, where she spotted a handgun she fell in love with. She calls it the spy one. It has a rounded barrel that sticks out a ways. Not unlike a Luger. Looked like a .22lr. Anywhos, she started asking about how much I think it is and what she has to do to own her own handgun. I told her we're going to the hunter's education course in December which would qualify her, but better to take the handgun safety course anyway. Just gotta shop around for a cheap one lol.

Anyway, women are finnicky creatures, but rest-assured I will continue to nurture this new interest in her and hopefully she becomes a full blown convert!  :shaka:

awesome!  I always see women at the ranges.  I think it's a good thing.... as long as they are not muzzling me ::)

Awesome Dregs.  As Old Guy was saying in the other thread, having more women shooters might be the pivotal point in getting better gun laws for us in Hawaii.

By any chance was the gun she was looking at a Ruger MkII?

Be thankful she wants something practical like that.  My gf has been shooting with me a couple of times, both on pistols and rifles.  She likes the sport as something we can do together, and I've been slowly trying to convince her to take the next step and own a gun (which I volunteered to buy for her).  She's been warming up to the idea... the only thing is, she wants a pink gun.  I tried to convince her that gun manufacturers do not make pink guns, but google and the internet have clearly proven me to be a fibber  :P :

So if you happen to see a guy at the range zeroing in a pink gun, chances are it's me.

Lots of room in the November LIFE class right now!  It might not meet your definition of "cheap" at $120, but she'll get excellent attention, not to mention having 40+ guns in a wide range of calibers to try before the day is out.

Hey, I'd be happy to meet you out there and lend a hand!  I'm not an expert, but I have zeroed a few scopes in my day.  Some of them even stay zeroed!

If you want to stay reasonably Sane, DO NOT show her the Sig catalog.

This is what I ended up getting the Wife from Martha at Young Guns

   Sig 232 Limited Edition

After she saw this

CRKT Rainbow Titanium Limited Edition Knives to match her Sig

As far as I'm concerned, She wants it, I can afford it, She Gets It.

Anyway, If you want to go broke, give her the complete Sig catalog.

Sig will make certain models in ANY COLOR the customer wants.  IF you have to ask How Much...........

They are Custom Made in their German(?) factory.  I've seen the photos,  Outstanding workmanship.

If you want to see some more of the Wife's guns, go to the gun porn section.

Sounds like a Ruger MkIII or 22/45. Here is one with the tapered barrel that looks like a Luger.

Hey TG thanks again! I may have to take you up on that one day as I said I have absolutely no idea where the shots are going. I was expecting little tiny holes since it's .22lr, but the two rounds that actually hit paper (out of 4 targets lined up head to toe), it looked as big or bigger than the other holes I have on there, which is .223 or .308. So that's another reason why I had no idea what I was doing out there.

Thanks for the pic guys. It most definitely looked like the Ruger MKII, though the looks matched Antithesis's one more. It was stainless steel/silver slide and frame, not sure of grips. Though 2AH's pic is pretty darn sexy. When I glanced at it at the shop, it reminded me of dart guns in games.

I think I definitely want to throw her in LIFE's class. Cheaper and hell of a lot more guns than the one I went to. Plus you all seem to love taking the time to teach people. All exactly what the gf needs! If she signs up, can I sit in somewhere? Hover around? Understandable if can't.

That sig looks like another "spy" one she might like. lol. Thanks a lot guys! =Op

There's ample precedent.  We've had people sit around who were spouses, or family.  We had one who was just a friend with a car who didn't want to make the round trip twice in a day.  Shouldn't be any problem to find a chair and some shade!

Let me know if you sign her up.

I'll see if I can make it and bring down some guns for the girls.
