I'll believe ammo prices are going down when bulk .22lr goes back to under 30 bucks for a brick (500-550 rounds)!!!  they should be a 1/3 of the price at least!

local prices are coming down, bit by bit.  it seems that every lot of 5.56/223 that OGC pulls in gets cheaper by the case from the high when it was, i believe 700 a case.

STOKED! that's definitely a good sign. there are so many naysayers spewing all this crap about prices being as high as they are for a long time to come...can be disheartening. but this is good news definitely, and i bet prices will go WAY down, lower than pre-panic because demand won't keep up with supply and not the other way around.

Think again!  California passes per-round taxes on ammunition to pay for gun violence and mental health.....  When people start to stockpile ahead of the taxes, prices will follow again!

Went to one of the LGS here in Kona the other day for some 22LR. Just whatever cheap stuff they had.

$16 for like a little ziplock bag of 100

Umm... Yeah...

You know, I get the whole supply and demand thing. But I also know that customers are the key to any business. The way I see it, I would rather not try to make as much profit as possible on a given item but instead make a repeat customer out of a sale that will in turn go out and tell someone else who will tell someone else and so on. So basically instead of making just a couple bucks on some ammo they made not a cent and I won't even bother going back in there again. I'll just do my shopping online. I don't think that business model will last long.

Did you try asking them about it? What if their cost was really high because they were just trying to get anything in to help out their customers? It's extremely hard to get ammo right now and some shops even buy it at retail if that's all they can get.

I would get the facts before getting upset.

The biggest problem for shops is unless you have a contract ammo supply you have to wait your turn.  Meanwhile they have to scramble to get ammo from other shops or buy it from other suppliers. Sometimes paying retail just to get ammo to sell.  Worse case is having to buy it in bulk from a mainland middleman on the east coast.

My guess is not all shops buy direct at rock bottom prices.  Think about ammo volume on the Big Island versus somewhere like Arizona or Texas.  We get the short end of the stick and while we don't like the prices, it is not like we have a choice.  I see a lot of empty shelves and I don't blame the gun shops one bit because I don't see them trying to make a killing on ammo.  I see them getting whatever they can get their hands on and trying to make a little $$ but ultimately trying to keep their customers happy.  There just isn't a whole lot of ammo to be had and I would imagine that Hawaii is pretty much low on the priority list for suppliers.
