This is too close for me. I hope you all decide to vote for those who will support your rights in the upcoming election cycles. These outrages need to stop. Feedom isn't free or easy.  We must all do our part.

Yes I agree, this was a little too close for comfort.  We need a list of those that voted yay-nay and keep them in mind next election cycle.

EDIT:  Some of these were pro-gun.  Read more about them here: http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/04/17/u-s-senate-shoots-down-background-check-amendment/

You didn't miss anything.  In one video the Pres pointed to parents and family who had lost a loved one in one of the many recent tragedies, stating we need to do something based on these deaths.  He didn't address how this "something" would do little to address the underlying problems.  He only focused on exploiting the painful state of these "victims" without mentioning how any of it would have accomplished his goals.
The Dems had another video- more of the same- we need to pass_________ because of this this picture right here (where he held up a photo of a slain child).

Interestingly, the republicans also had a video clip, where they offered viable alternatives to address the root of the problems, discussed how the failed amendments didn't address these problems, and calmly but passionately made good points on how to discuss "somethings" that would actually work.

The background check was supposed to be a good thing. It was supposed to give back more then anything. It closed the gun show loophole they talk about, if you sell a gun at a gun show you have to do a background check which ffl dealers had to do anyway. It only stopped the private owners from selling with out one, but no one is stopping them from leaving the premises and selling it. Also you could go to any state and buy a handgun (I didn't know that we couldn't). There were some other things that I don't remember but I heard it on Tom Gresham's gun talk podcast with Alan Gotlieb.

I usually have nothing but respect for Alan Gottlieb, but he really shat down his leg supporting the expanded background checks.  Background checks are required for every transaction through an FFL.  An FFL is necessary in order to buy and sell guns for profit.  The only way to expand background checks any more is to expand them to private party sales, which is a profoundly bad idea.  The fact that "they" talk about a so-called Gun Show Loophole (trademarked property of the Brady Campaign, nee Handgun Control Incorporated.  All rights reserved.) doesn't make it actually exist.  The fact is that there is absolutely NO gun show loophole.  The laws on the books specifically and rightly exempt transactions between private individuals from the background check requirement.  Whether or not a private transaction takes place at a gun show or as the result of a Craigslist ad is irrelevant.  This bullshit about gun show loopholes and internet loopholes are absolute lies--they were made up entirely from whole cloth to advance an agenda of eroding human rights.

How come there are no videos with the children and families who experienced the same thing from one of Obama's drone strikes???  Who is speaking for all of those innocents that were collateral damage???  I hate hypocrisy!!! :shaka:
