online stores Won't ship standard capacity mags to hawaii??
« on: April 18, 2013, 07:08:54 PM »
why can't i order standard capacity mags some websites? i ordered a CMMG 22lr kit with 25rnd mag from bass pro but when i tried to order just a couple mags they said those are restricted from shipping to hawaii, but the 22lr kit w/25rd mag is ok. wtf since when are 30rd mags illegal in hawaii? i went to magnum and they said they only sell "hi-cap" mags to law enforcement. ive looked at a few other sites and a lot of em wont ship mags over 10rd to hawaii, but i just ordered a few 30rd mags from a site just fine.

can anyone direct me to a place with mags for 22lr cmmg kit for AR? maybe locally? i just want to get as many mags as i can before some stupid ban is enacted.

Many sites think that the 10 round magazine limit is for both handguns and rifles.  I think were the only one with a limit on handgun magazines but not rifle ones.  Usually its both.  A few stores here wont sell mags over 10.  Just look at other stores here or online.

btw the gun bill amendments were all killed by the senate yesterday and the overall gun bill has been shelved

The issue of what's legal in Hawaii in regards to magazine capacity has been discussed many times. The bottom line is that any magazine that is "capable" of being used in a handgun (any handgun, not just those that are legal in Hawaii, and "handgun" as defined in Hawaii law - meaning just about any gun...) must be limited to 10 rounds. Yes, some stores sell them to non-LEO, yes, some places will ship standard capacity magazines to Hawaii, but some interpret the law (correctly IMHO) as those magazines are illegal and won't ship because they believe them to be illegal.

And, before you say "but I was able to buy them here" or that "I saw someone at the range with one" remember, the issue is the relative lack of enforcement of this law. NOT the interpretation that they are illegal....we're pretty sure of our interpretation and have concurrence from the AG's office on the matter. There are, as I mentioned, other threads here on the subject you should review for additional info on the matter.
