New to Firearms and just got a Glock 19 Gen 4 and a S&W M&P shield 9. Was wondering if i need to Oil these puppys before i take them to the range this sunday. Brand new guns not 2nd hand.

I always clean the manufacturer grease off and lube it up before shooting. I don't know why, just do.

I always believe a gun that you have cleaned yourself provides you with peace of mind.

All Glocks are pretty similar for cleaning purposes and doesn't take long.  Sorry can't get rid of the advertisement...

 

Yeah clean the gun, gives u a chance to inspect the parts for burs and other issues.  Clean and oil the barrel and acton parts lube with quality stuff

From reading the different forums and from personal past practice, I will clean and lubricate my new firearms prior to going to the firing range. It is good to pre inspect the firearm for any issues. I usually run a few cleaning patches or even a bore snake through the barrel and and lubricate as necessary. Enjoy your new gun and be safe.

Damn, my [pause for dramatic affect]...Glock is really, really dirty. She should come show me how to clean it in person. Sorry what was the question again? Oh yes, that's right. I always clean my guns (esp. new) prior to firing them for the first time.

Just remember, in most firearms, too much oil is worse than none at all. It catches crud that causes more wear on metal parts.

Yeah, I've cleaned all my handguns and rifles prior to shooting them - even when they were new.

Not just peace of mind.

New guns ship with heavier preservative oils more than the lighter operating oils. Its not meant to be shot until it is cleaned of the factory preservatives and properly oiled.

I wasn't quite sure what the point of the video was, though. Wasn't there supposed to be a gun in it or something?  Thought maybe it was about CCW for ladies and was looking really hard for that gun. Didn't see it anywhere.

I read a lot of gun publications. In many cases during testing the testers will have a brand new pistol/rifle malfunction in some way. Then they field strip and lubricate the gun and all of the sudden it works perfectly for 500+ rounds. Then they knock themselves for forgetting to field strip, clean and lubricate the gun before testing. If the experts do it I would recommend everyone do it as well.
