Store Owner Shoots Robber Yielding A Sawed Off Shotgun

Chalk another one up for the good guys! Police say not likely charges will be filed against the store owner, even though he shot as the suspect was leaving.

Deputies say Steele admitted he robbed the store out of desperation, because he lost his job a couple weeks ago. (no excuse for committing a crime dumbshit)

Though the store owner is relieved the man he shot is going to survive, he isn't buying that excuse. (no sympathy from me either)

He says he too was laid off a few years ago, but got back on his feet the honest way.

"I put all my life savings into this store. I borrowed money from the bank and my parents. It's just been a bit over two years. That's why we don't have any employees. I work seven days a week and have two little girls I have to take care of," said the owner.

Notice in the story, the news baited the sheriff, "...Local 15 asked Sheriff Cochran if any charges would be brought against the store owner, since he shot as the suspect was leaving..."

Glad no charges will be filed and I think it is sad that the man is thinking about shutting down his store! Effing criminals...

I don't care HOW bad your life sucks.  Threatening another human being with deadly force changes who you are.  You are no longer the victim!  You are now the aggressor!  You deserve to be treated as such --- with the appropriate level of force in return!!

Choices have consequences.  Choose wisely!
When only cops have guns, it's called a "police state".

I think the worst part is the store owner admitting he had little to no firearms experience or training. Running outside after an assailant and firing shots when others could have been walking by, he's lucky he didn't injury any bystanders. If you're going to own a firearm know how to use it.

Hence the intent of the phrase "well regulated," meaning well trained...

Very true but the reality is the vast number of firearm owners that own a firearm for home defense or protecting their business probably have only had initial training many years ago or minimal or no training with the firearm they intend to use. Probably most believe they will never have to use it. Not saying that makes things right but that is reality and if real stringent training requirements existed and reoccurring training was required, I suspect many wouldn't go though the effort to own one. Think about how many American's own firearms and I'm pretty sure the majority are not adequately training for a crisis. In this instance, just lucky no bystander was injured but we don't really know any of the surrounding environment in which he fired, other than the fact it was at closing time, late and outside his business, to include the street. I think generally, most of these type of stories turn out much more favorable for the victim when they have a firearm, as opposed to no firearm, even in the absence of regular training. Again, not disputing the importance of being well trained, just stating what the reality is probably more like.

You are correct...I wish the NRA did more free firearm training so more people would be more apt to participate.

Also, consider some of the old-timers, like WWII or Korean war veterans and many of them own firearms and won't hesitate to use them if someone breaks in their home or if threatened by an attack. Probably most wouldn't go through any formal training at this point in their life but are they ok to use a firearm. Who really knows...probably, maybe, no, yes, good enough, etc, etc. Just saying...more to it than meets the eye.
