« on: May 05, 2013, 11:03:24 PM »
So, being the new pistol shooter that i am, i dont have a pistol frame, so i was thinking of going to the silhouette side, but i've never been there, obviously.

how does it work?  what are the rules?  same as pistol side, or different?

what should i be practicing there?

Thanks in advance.

Go to the office on your left, sign in and pay the $5 fee.

Find a station, shoot, help put targets back up..profit?

Ask the guys running the silhouette side for advice once you get there. Super cool and helpful....

you can also load 10 instead of 5  :geekdanc:

targets start at 50 yards though so its a little discouraging for new shooters.

You can actually load your magazines to full capacity which is good.  Targets start at 50 yards and go to 100.  Some targets can be knocked down and theres a large plate there too.  During ceasefires, people go and reset the targets.  Fee is $5

Targets can be placed out to 200 yards.  That club specifically was formed around longer range handgun shooting.

not much rules
simple: just shoot at those metal targets and lil oompa loompas will run out and reset them for you.

While you can load up 10 for handguns, I rarely load up more than 3-5 at the silhouette side, especially nowadays where I don't want to burn through my ammo that quickly.

1. When you are teaching your gf how to shoot that new handcannon you bought, make sure she isn't placing her hand by the forcing cone.
2. When you are teaching your gf how to shoot that new semi-auto, make sure she has a proper grip so she doesn't train-track herself.
3. When you are talking to your buddy (both of you are trying out your first new pistol), don't turn around and point the muzzle at the guy next to you.
4. Kick the Brass Vulture in the berries when he swoops in on your spent casings.

Turkeys!!!
Chickens at 50 yards
Javelina (pigs) at yards
Turkeys are 150 yards
Rams at 200 yards

Handguns(canons) only since it is only 200 yards . Cartridges must have enough power to knock the 30lb Ram of the stand at 200 yards.

It takes a while to get out there and back. Talk to the RO's to see if you can set that one up. They keep it knocked down during  the week due to people shooting it with rifles and punching holes through it.

I'm sure now that it was mentioned in this post, someone is gonna ask to set it up! Awesome!

I recommend sending the fastest runner out there. Don't get too nervous when you hear the whizz of bullets from the rifle side while setting up the Ram.

.........and make sure your friend stands by the RSO.  I've been there when the range has nearly gone hot when someone is still out there.
