A definite no no in the land of poi and honey.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

why are sound suppressors illegal here anyway? They make the gun quieter but not silent like in the movies.

Bummer...would have been nice to be able to own one. If I ever needed to use my rifle In an emergency, I'd have to sacrifice hearing loss or scramble to get some ear pro on...
Give them nothing. But take from them, everything

The folks who made that law probably didn't know that. But they knew exactly what an "assault pistol" was.

In 2011, lawmakers in Michigan, Kansas, Washington and Missouri approved measures allowing the personal ownership of suppressors for the first time in those states, bringing the current number of states that allow private possession to 39. It remains against the law to own suppressors in California, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, Delaware and Hawaii.

Get your facts straight, please!
1. Suppressors are actually called silencers.
2. Silencers completely muffle ALL sound produced by any firearm.  This includes drops and bumps.
3. Anyone with a silenced firearm will immediately begin killing innocent people.  Because of the lack of sound, the person will be harder to catch, and will kill more than the average gun-toting lunatic.
4. Silencers can easily be made from a soda bottle, paper towel tube, and chewing gum.  These items will be banned shortly.

I was watching "Safe" on netflix last night and the bad guy held a glass beer bottle in front of his gun as he shot a lady. All you heard was the glass breaking like it hit the ground.

Soon beer bottles will be banned...or regulated by the ATF

Because idiots elect morons who enact laws to prohibit things that scare them.  That is the one and only reason.

True story,
Back in the early 80's, there was this company that sold them via mail order (no internet yet) to anyone, anywhere.
A couple guys had bought them in Hawaii.
ATF had come down on this company and confiscated all of their records.
Next thing you know, the long arm of the law came calling.
The people here where asked to surrender the silencers, which they did, peacefully.
Nothing really came of it. They where really after the company.
Things where a lot looser then, but still.

Saw "Shooter", I think he used an empty plastic soda container.

I would suggest that besides that, they all too often just don't understand what the hell they are talking about: Carolyn McCarthy's now infamous "shoulder thing that goes up" statement; banning of "teflon coated bullets"because they go thru bullet resistant vests; banning "exploding and segmenting" ammunition (i.e. frangible rounds...); "Assault weapons".....You get the picture, they ban shit because when the have absolutely no friggin' idea about their talking about....

Probably the same reason teflon coated bullets are illegal here.  Some lawmaker learns everything about guns from the movies.  (they go through bulldozer blades btw).

Maybe Jesse Jackson was involved.  You know all these AR-15 military weapons represent a Homeland Security problem because they can be used to shoot down airplanes and blow up railroads!!  He probably has an opinion on suppressors, too (and just as "logical").

I have several and they are quite fun.  I actually dislike shooting the guns that dont have them.

Depending on the gun and the ammo used they can be extremely quiet.  My 77/22 shooting subsonic ammo is actually quieter then dry firing it.  The firing pin hitting brass is quieter then the pin hitting the face.

Just an FYI on the link about the states that allow silencers.  WA has always allowed them but there was some poor wording that made it a grey area if they were legal to actually use.  I know this for a fact since I have owned them in WA since 2005.
Don't be confused, I live in Washington.  Yes the state.
