This is how far I got so far.



I'm not in a rush though, I've never done it before so I'm cool with taking it slow.  My first decision is whether or not to start with an actual Ruger rifle or just start from scratch, any pros/cons for me to consider?  Thank you all.

Depends how much you wanna spend.  Kidd makes great receivers with long top rails.   Nodak makes cheaper ones but while good the finish level isn't as good, butva great value.   If I had to do it over I'd start from scratch.  I'd buy all kidd parts and spend about a $1k.  Rather replace stock parts and try to sell the stock parts after, kind a waste.

Thanks Heavies, it's the only part I'm decided on .  As for budget I haven't really decided, main reason I'm taking it slow.

If your budget minded and don't care about being able to adjust the pull get the trigger job or single stage.  Most people get a big night and day differnce just with the basic trigger job.  Though its highly recomended to have the platic trigger guard if you choose this option.  Dont forget to add the bolt hold open and the buffer pin.
When built my 10/22 lived on rimfirecentral.com doing all the free cheap mods.

As for trigger weight 2lbs is low as you should ever go.  Most go 2.5lbs.  Which is the ammount of force your fingure has to apply to fire the gun. If I recall stock is 8 lbs.

If you're trying to keep it pretty inexpensive, I would pick up the rifle for around $250 range, at least you can shoot it and appreciate the differences of the upgrades in the meantime.  An aftermarket receiver and bolt alone will cost way more than that.      As far as the trigger, I put the Volquartsen hammer alone  in mine and my daughters and its a night and day difference for only $40... Cut the trigger pull weight in half and very crispy!     Of course like mentioned the auto bolt release is a no brainier at like $10 , bolt buffer for a few bucks as well....  Might as well throw in an aftermarket extractor for like $12 while your at it as well...   

Of course if you don't really have a budget,  plan on changing everything including the bolt and receiver and dont mind not being able to shoot in the meantime then definitely go all aftermarket...  Myself however always wanted/admired  the 10/22 legacy and like the fact that at least the receiver is Ruger lol...   Stock  Bolt and receiver works perfectly reliably for me.   Maybe some differences if you're in competition and every 1/8" makes a difference but for plinking and fun Id say they're more than fine.     Barrel and trigger hammer made the biggest difference in accuracy for me...  Cut about an inch in grouping for me...     I may possibly change the bolt and trigger assembly down the line just for the sake of upgrading but I wouldn't have had it any other way, the progression and the experience of  starting with the 10/22 itself was priceless for me and unless I change the receiver which I don't plan on, my builds wouldn't really have costed any more than if I started from scratch anyway and I wouldn't have been able to shoot it and see/feel the progression for a few months!

I would pick up the rifle for around $250 range, at least you can shoot it and appreciate the differences of the upgrades in the meantime.

Thanks all, this is the way I'm leaning now.  Thinking of picking up a Stainless Carbine and just shooting it first.  I'm alright with spending a little more and having extra parts laying around after it's done if I learned something along the way.  Anyone have experience with their Target model?
I could pick this up and slap my stock on it and just shoot it for a while.

It should drop right in to your boyds stock long as your stock is setul for a bull barrel and ot a stock or tappeed barrel.  I'd recommend buying the kidd action hex screws to amke sure your action is nice and tight.  That barrel is heavy you may have barrel droop issues.  Check into a barrel pad if that happens and maybe a kidd vblock
