to the OP
if you haven't taken the handgun safety course, make sure you shop for one not only on price, but how many different types of guns you get to try
it may be worth it to pay more to try a bigger assortment
i believe funtimes has a course, but i also hear LIFE KGS and OGC let you try a bunch too

Go to a gun store and see which pistol is comfortable for you.

I have artheritis and cant hold a glock well anymore.

its a great gun, just make sure you get one at a good price.  Hopefully you can find one, they sell out quickly.

make sure to mod the hell out of it, the stock trigger sucks nuts but for a few bucks, you can easily mod it to be a great shooter (I spent 40 bucks on mines and now I have no over travel, less then 1/16 inch pretravel, less then 1/8 inch total trigger travel, 2.5lb trigger, it breaks fairly nicely, and its just as reliable as stock with the firing pin engaging at least 3/4 of the sear.  And this is with a 4th gen, a 3rd gen probally would have a lighter trigger pull)!  Glocks are like the Honda's of guns.  It will never be a Ferrari but for a few bucks you can make it pretty darn fun!  Personnaly, I'd get a G34 before a 19 seeing as you can not ccw in Hawaii but that is just me.  The longer sight radius and the extended slide release=better for me.  Meh, what do I know.

I'm not sure that any centerfire is a good choice for a first handgun.  If you want to learn to shoot (rather than just developing a flinching habit), get a .22.

I used to love the reliability of my Glock 19 and hate how it feels in the hand...Then I put it down for a couple months without touching it, and somehow it feels like it belongs in my hand now.

why choose?
get the 9mm and a .22  :shaka:

registering a gun here is too much hassle to only get 1 at a time.

I agree with the above, get a Glock 19, and a 22 pistol.  Allows you to save money and thereby shooting more, and get some better practice sessions by focusing on fundamentals on the 22lr.  22 pistols and ammo are pretty cheap especially if you buy used.

Good choice, sir. I have a Glock 17 and Glock 21, both Gen 4s. You won't be disappointed.

i went from a glock 17 & a ruger 22/45 to something more practical for me. the s&w m&p 40 (with 9mm conversion barrel) and the m&p 22 pistol. very glad i did.  :shaka:
if i were to get a glock again, i'd do the glock 22. 9mm conversion barrel and possibly a 22 slide conversion.

Good Observation!

When only cops have guns, it's called a "police state".
