In an emergency situation I would certainly consider my food and water as important as my wife and family.

This is why I think that communal farming or aquaponics is a waste of time, unless you can manage to keep it a secret. Of course, I came to that conclusion when I figured that you'd only have to worry about hungry neighbors streaking your food. Be a good squirrel and keep your stock hidden!

Normally I don't like this particular saying, but in the case of stockpiling food for survival? It's only 'illegal' if you're caught.

Good luck when your stocks run out. Maybe have a lucky rabbit's foot and a couple four leaf clovers kicking around cause without a long-term plan you're gonna need 'em. Even squirrels know not to put all their nuts in one log.

A stock no one knows about will last a lot longer than a garden ravaged by hungry neighbors and JBTs, I figure.  I'd rather feed my family for a month or two, than everyone on my block for a week.

Considering that this thread is concerning Hawaii's laws against being prepared, if the government figures out you've got a garden producing an ample food supply, neither do you.
