To list or not to list Dr?
« on: June 03, 2013, 11:17:29 AM »
I don't have a regular doctor and haven't had one for many years.  On my permit applications I've been putting down the last dr I saw, which was just one visit. The thread about the "non-compliance dr" has got me thinking. Should I just not put any dr? My one visit to this dr was nothing psychotic, drug or alcohol related so I don't see how he would know enough about me to qualify or disqualify me from owning a firearm.

are general practitioners even qualified to judge a persons mental state for acquiring a firearm?

I don't have one and so have left that section blank.

Medical records will show that I had a couple shots before traveling abroad for work but the doctors that did that aren't "my" doctors and were just one visit each. So far all of my permits have gone through with no questions.

I usually put my Doc's name on the form.  He has a good rep as a doctor and knows me and my family personally.

When I visited him, he mentioned to me that he received my permit application and just casually asked me about firearms in general (very diplomatic of him).

He mentioned he wasn't really into it and I shared with him facts about firearms (informed him to correct misconceptions about scary black "assault rifles", full auto vs semi auto, that gun owners are not criminals) and about my interests and background with firearms.  After that, he thanked me and gave me a hug.

I've never had any issues with any of my permit applications.
I think, therefore I am armed.

Whenever they ask I just reply I don't have a regular doctor since I haven't been in years. I just tell em I have HMSA, I guess thats as much info as they need.

In Hilo, the form doesn't have anywhere to fill in a doctor's name; all they ask is your name an SS#.
