Private sales of long arms

So with the issue of long lines at HPD, what is the common practice for privately selling long arms? Do you wait there with the other party, or simply do the transaction there, and let the buyer finish the process?

With the pistol transfer, you sign the back of their permit.  Also, since they applied for the permit, they know of the intent to transfer the handgun.  With the long gun permit, you can basically acquire any 'ol long gun.

At least, that's how I've always thought of it.
