Got lead?

my first S&W
was looking for a model 19 357 which is a k frame, but good thing I ran across this instead
its a model 586 which is L frame. basically a 686 with blued steel and walnut grips instead of stainless with Hogue grips that's on the 686.  I like the look of the blued steel with walnut grips better, makes it look more like a classic revolver to me
first impressions is very good.  trigger feels a little better than my GP100 out of the box, walnut grips feel good and look good too got that classic S&W look, and I really like the blueing.
already have some Altamont grips on order.  they were busy from the shot show so it'll take a little longer than expected.  they sent me an email saying it'll be longer wait so at least they told me which I appreciate.
now just gotta see how it shoots.

these are the grips I ordered from Altamont.  Spanish diamond checkered walnut with laser engraved S&W emblem
there was a slight delay in the order but should be here soon.  Altamont was very good in communicating the delay, excellent CS.  I think the delay was bc of shotshow.

the stock grips are the coke bottle target grips.  both made by Altamont.  I highly recommend Altamont, great company to deal with.

I was never interested in owning a 586 but when this no dash hung around the classifieds of this forum for a while, I had to adopt it.

Nice! About the revolver that is!

You should do a thread about history and different nuances about revolvers. Like the “no dash” thing. The other stuff about my dad’s .41 that we discussed, etc! Wealth of knowledge to be gained would be priceless!

Ruger GP100 6" vs S&W586 4"
not a real in depth analysis.  i'm just shooting silhouettes.  just my general impressions of each firearm
GP100 was made in 1990.  only changes I made is the front fiber optic sight and Altamont grips which are a lot like the stock ones but have snakeskin checkering.  have fired 700+ rounds thru this GP100, probable more
S&W is new.  only change is the Altamont grips. stock grips were the coke bottle target grips.
don't really know which one is more accurate until I go target side
trigger i'll give an edge to the S&W.  its lighter and shorter, after I fire more rounds through it I'm sure it'll smooth out more. the GP100 is heavy and long trigger pull in DA, but its smooth
sights i'll give to the Ruger.  although I switched to fiber optics and I like that better to see.  the Ruger is also much easier to replace the front sight, just push in this spring loaded tab and it comes out.
I like the looks of the S&W grips much better, but shooting I like the Ruger grips bc its rubber and I guess i'm just more used to shooting them.  i'll have to try shoot the 586 with the coke bottle grips and see if I like it better.
the Ruger is built a little beefier.  the top and front straps are bigger.  which could be an advantage.
S&W is not as big.  which could be an advantage.

Awesome!  Looks like a super nice day of shooting!  Saw a lot of clear blue sky!  Thank you for posting the video! 

From your video, looked like the muzzle rise of the 6" GP100 looked noticeably less than the 4" S&W.  Did it feel noticeably different?  While would expect the muzzle rise to be less with the 6" gun, something I never really tried side-by-side.  I also assumed that Rugers are generally heavier than S&W revolvers in the same barrel length, but I have never compared myself.  My 686+ is a 6" barrel and it's a nice and soft shooter with .38 SPL and makes .357 Mag pretty mild as well.  Excellent for a teaching revolver.  I had initially wanted a 4" barrel gun, but 6" is what they had in stock when I was ready to buy.
