Indoor range day?
« on: June 04, 2013, 11:43:01 AM »
Would you guys be down for a group range day at Honolulu Firearms (Magnum's)? Maybe we could work out a group discount with them. Just thinking about it cuz I can never make it to fun shoots due to work or timing (can't spend the whole day there). Koko head is ok but not very practical for self defense shooting practice (due to slow firing and distance).

We can all bring our guns for each other to try so we don't have to rent any.

Thoughts?

X ring where you at? we NEED a range!  ;)

Great idea. I'd be down for this but need advance notice on date and time so I can block it out on my schedule.

What day or time were you thinking about for this?
I think, therefore I am armed.

frangibles only. I still have some left over. I would shoot one of my ARs a lil.

Yeah, frangibles only. The .223 is about  $22 to $24 a box of 20, if my memory is correct. And the 7.62X39 - for all you AK lovers -  is about $27 a box. So, it's a little expensive to shoot rifles there.

Because the range is very short.  People have caught splash back before with pistols.

Dirsh I think a better option would be to go to the silhouette side at Kokohead and do it there.  $5 at Kokohead would be better than paying for the markup on ammo at Honolulu.  That's assuming they even have all the calibers available for the guns we'd be bringing.

I would be down...it would have to be a weekend. Army has me all week! As much advance notice would be the best!

Frangables are hard on any gas operated rifle.  All the sintered brass gets into the gas system.

I would be ok on Fridays but need advanced notice so I block it out. This Friday is out. Weekends are usually out or me.

How about next week Friday, Dirsh?  I can bring a couple of 9mms handguns that you're welcome to try.

I wanted to practice shooting at closer distances. When I shoot my pistols on the silhouette side, it feels like I'm just wasting ammo and shooting just to shoot. When I was at Magnums getting shooting tips from an instructor, I learned more (for self defense) with 1/2 box of ammo, than I did with 100s of rounds at kokohead.

I hear ya about the ammo though. I haven't shot there since before the panic, and it was expensive then. I don't know what their prices are now.

I would probably only buy 1 box of ak and ar ammo to practice double taps. I never get to feel the full benefit of my brakes

weekends are better for me.
i've never shot at honolulu firearms, but would like to try some short range shooting

as for ammo prices, the last time i checked ammo there a couple months ago,
i only checked the 45 acp ammo and was $35 for a box of 50 winchester

I wonder how much you would have to shoot there for the membership to be worth it.

at magnum a few years ago, i figured out that you would need to go 17 point something times a year to make it worth it
not sure what the new fees are, but the calculations are not that bad
top end is yearly fee divided by daily fee
but you also have to take into account the ammo discount, so that gets you down to a lower number

I wonder how much you would have to shoot there for the membership to be worth it.
