How much is 25 pounds of coins?

I just finished cleaning up my place and found that I had 25 pounds of u.s. coins stashed away in various jars, trays, etc.  I'm going to cash it in tomorrow and maybe buy something at an LGS (maybe 25 pounds of .22 ammo, if I can find it!).

How much do you think it will come out to?  Closest guess without going over the actual amount will win a 50 ct. box of .22 LR ammo.  I'll post the actual amount 24 hours from now so take your best shot at it--one guess per member please.

Well when I cashed in a bunch of coin from our geedunk at work it was $275ish and that had to be around 20-25 labs and a lot of quarters. Since I don't know what yours is made of I will say $285.  ???

Pennies (at least those made after 1982) weigh 2.5 grams, nickels weigh 5 grams, dimes weigh 2.268 grams, and quarters weigh 5.67 grams. One of each gives us a total of 15.438 grams. There are approximately 453.59 grams in a pound. Therefore, if an equal number of coins comprise a pound, there will be 29.38 of each. Since you can't have 0.38 of a coin, we'll round to 29. Multiplying by the value of each, the total value of the coins is $11.89. [ETA: X 25 = $297.25.]

So my final answer is 297.25

How long have the coins been stored?  You know, money shrinks in value over time, so the total might be less now for the same weight!

I'll be heading out to a coinstar machine soon--if any of you have hit it on the head exactly I'll post it ASAP, otherwise the 8 pm deadline is still in effect.

I found a box of Federal Gold Match .22 and a box of Winchester HV (copper washed solids, not the 555 crap)--your choice if you win.
