The holes are at 200 yards from the firing line. The trick is finding them out there since they are usually concealed by brush. Some of the  pipes are painted orange, but are still not easy to find. The holes are spaced 24" apart and you will need to make your own frame. Your target should be at least 6' tall or it may not stand about the taller bushes. The best place to shoot them is from center of the makai side of the range office. You will need a good spotting scope. Any shooter using the 200 yard targets need to let the range officers know so they can schedule a ceasefire on the pistol side also since it is within the danger area for pistol ammo.

Remember that your frames are going to have to be really tall.  It's not the same height as the standard frames you are shooting at 50/100 yds.

If you plan to set a target at 200, you better get there early and plan to stay the whole day because they often won't let you go out there during a cease fire. If they do, it will be once in the middle of the day.

I was at WGS when this guy came in complaining about the RSO and his target he put far out. He put out his target and when he wanted to get it they told him to wait. He waited for a while and then asked again. They told him to come back later when the range closed. He shouted that he lives in Mililani and it would be a major inconvenience for him to come back later (It was probably about 11), so on the next cease fire he goes to take his target down despite what the RSO (I think Sy) says. HPD ends up being called and the guy is 86'd

Moral of the story is: listen to the RSOs. if you want to put out a far target, be prepared to be there ALL day

 

It's to much of an inconvenient , rather just  shoot what out there. If you hit it you'll hear it if you miss atleast a foot radius of intended target you'll see the dust kick up.

How long ago was that?  I usually stay from early morning till about 130-2pm on weekend.  I watched a guy put a 200 yard target, but he didn't have any shoot-and-c targets go I gave him one of my very large pistol ones and we just put smaller targets inside of the large one.  He let me shoot at it and he only had it up for 2-3 hours.  Beside that I have scrap wood and worse case scenario I'll leave it there and I'm sure someone else will enjoy putting holes in it...lol  I also enjoy shooting the gongs at different ranges, but prefer to know exactly where I'm hitting.

This was about 2 months ago, he put it up at about 10ish and took it down around 1pm.  Like you said though, I will just talk to the RSO.  At least I know what I'm getting myself into.

I'm not always using a scope or really high magnification though and my hearing isn't exactly the best.  I can barely hear a hit at the 450 yard gongs with 223.  With 308 it's easier.  If I'm shooting the 200 something yard targets that's no problem hearing hits though so I see your point.

That's true , actually its opposite for me I'm getting used to scopes or optics. I'm not a great shot with standard iron sights but that's the only thing i knew before trying out these red dots n scopes.

Thats just dumb.

Don't become overly dependent on your optics...what if something happens to your optic and you have to shoot iron sights. I wasn't allowed in my unit to qualify with optics even though I had them when I deployed. Love optics, but iron sight shooting is just as important.
