Are you a US citizen?  I had a friend that came from Canada, and not a US citizen, he said that he could not register his guns in Hawaii because he is not a US citizen...I'm not sure about this, but worth checking...good luck

Brother, Hawaii is great! Sure it is a bit expensive, but I have met some fantastic people here! I am sad that I am leaving soon (I think). I don't understand all the military people saying how locals hate us military dudes. I would imagine that if you act like an douchebag, then the people will treat you like one. F that, its not just a bit expensive, it is one of the most expensive cities to live in behind ny city and certain parts of LA.  Houses average 650-800k in town for a piece of crap you would have to burn to the ground and rebuild to live in.  It's also one of the worst states to live in for guns again just behind ny and cali.  We have the second worst traffic in the nation behind cali (the 450 is a bitch but at least you are rolling at like 40mph) and I think we have the second worst drivers just behind florida.  too many cars, too many people, too many bad politicians, and too little jobs with too little pay.

I would second this. Hawaii would be a great place if you were just on vacation the whole time and flew here in your private jet to spend the week at your house near the water you visit once or twice a year. But when you are not on vacation it is different.

I have driven throughout Mass and boston, CT,NY,NJ and the people in those places all drive crazy like they will literally just run your ass over, you have to be very agressive...  But people here just seem to be so stupid behind the wheel sometimes. For example stopping traffic on a major road to let someone who does not have right of way pull out! WTF!! I think I have seen it all here. Maybe I just don't drive with aloha.

In HI, the drivers are dangerous because they are stupid. And that is not just a funny way to say it, it is a very serious comment. Drivers here do really stupid stuff and it is dangerous, almost like I don't know if they even took any defensive driving classes.

I drive with total aloha, not only because I prefer myself and everyone to be friendly, but because I am trying to be the more (most?) defensive driver around when others are not.

My friends and family say I drive too slow. I keep telling them, you guys drive too fast. They laugh and think I am the stupid one.

All my friends visiting from mainland are shocked by the driving habits here. They always ask me if this is how people drive all the time. I say Yup.

This is something I am not proud of about HI. I really wish we drove much safer here in HI. So many accidents and deaths every week.

PS - by the way, it is scary in the situation you mentioned because that driver with NO right of way MIGHT just pull out onto the main road! You know I speak the truth!

yesterday, i was at a stoplight and the ambulance was coming
i was the first car at the light and the light turned green, so i went across the intersection and pulled off
everyone else behind me stayed where they were and blocked the whole intersection, even though the light was green!
when the ambulance got to the next intersection it was even worse, since the light was red, so people were even more hesitant to move

Yup it is terrible.

I was in a car as front passenger with my family member as the driver.

Ambulance was blasting the horn to tell the driver (my family member) to MOVE but he was just clueless and frozen on the spot.

It was infuriating and embarrassing at the same time but I could not really say too much out loud (you guys can understand).

I just said, give him more space (like we even gave him any space at all) and when the ambulance finally managed to pass, the ambulance driver glared at me with a WTF look.

Somehow I got blamed for this crap by the ambulance driver.
