Story I heard
« on: July 05, 2013, 08:12:27 AM »
While waiting in line at the police station the guy before me was trying to recover his gun. He said that his gun was stolen and trying to get it back after it was found. He said that he went hiking and brought his gun with him for self defense cause get big pigs. When he got home he put his bag in the back of his truck and went inside his house to shower (he normally leaves it inside the house in a drawer). When he when outside it was gone. Later he said the cops called him and that someone recovered his bag with his gun in the middle of  a street. Everything was there except his narcotic drugs (i'm assuming prescription). Cops asked him about the registration and he said he never registered it cause he's from the mainland and they don't require registration. They ask him how long he's been here and he says 6 months. Then the guys says he just wants his gun back because he needs to leave to go back cause he going lose his children but can't go back cause he wants his gun back. Cops told him he most likely not going get it back and to come back the next day to figure everything out.
Google it cause every question is a dumb question.

My guess is he's not gonna get it back. Sucks, but know the laws.
I am not a lawyer.

Shitty situation, but I would pay some respect and not post up other's personal problems on a public forums board.

If he can prove that it is his he may get it back. Or police going keep it because he never registered it

Heard of happening before and they let the guy keep it but he had to have an ffl pick it up.

Then he had to go thru the safety class and 2 week waiting period.

No disrespect to anyone or the guy but I believe we can learn from other people's mistakes. In this case I believe that he should have secured his firearm before doing anything else and not leave it outside his house unattended. I just started this sport a month ago but my safety course and my friends told me this is the first thing to do when you get home. He should have also checked with our State laws before shipping a gun. But if enough people don't want this up I can delete it.

No problem telling this story, since the other's name is not given.  This is a teachable moment which may prevent someone else from being in this same situation!

When only cops have guns, it's called a "police state".

Shitty situation, but I would pay some respect and not post up other's personal problems on a public forums board.

Guy moves here from the mainland with firearm(s).
6 months go by - this breaks the law about registering firearms brought into the state of Hawaii.
Guy gets firearm(s) stolen.
HPD (amazingly) recovers firearms.
Now it's a question if (previous?) owner will get recovered firearms back?

Would it have been better if we edit the OP to something like this???

Couldn't HPD fine this guy for the unregistered firearms in the first place?
