Desert Eagle hard cock
« on: July 06, 2013, 12:54:41 AM »
I just picked up a Desert Eagle .50 AE. Why? Why not? Anyways it is extremely hard to pull back the slide just to chamber a round. I mean it's almost impossible. I had the sales guy try it out first and it took him several tries and the only way he could do it was put the barrel in between his legs to hold it while pulling back. I can't do it either unless I use a method like that. I tried taking it apart and oil everything and also leaving it cocked for two days but it still seems the same. I've watch several YouTube videos and it was easy for them. I've also tried out my safety instructors .44 and .45 DE and it was easy and I only used two fingers to pull it back. Is there a break in period and I have to shoot to soften the springs or do you think something is wrong with it? Is there a break in period?
Google it cause every question is a dumb question.

so to answer your question why? Why not? Because its almost impossible to pull the slide back to chamber a round... thats why. So why did you buy it knowingly that it had issues?  Even if the spring softens it aint going to soften that much to the point its going to help.

just shoot it and i'd assume that would loosen things up.  but that sounds like a pain in the ass.

hopefully firing a couple hundred rounds through it would do the job, sounds like one hell of a workout

this reminds me of a friend who bought some rifle (HK PTR 91, i think?  That sounds wrong, but i cant remember what it was.) and he had to put the butt of the rifle on the ground and stomp on the charging handle to get it to chamber a round until he shot a few hundred rounds.

I'm going to go to the shop to check out the other ones. I just started this sport a few weeks ago so I'm not sure how things are supposed to be. I just assumed that's how it's supposed to be because the sales guy tried it out before me and didn't say something was wrong with it. Only now I remember that it was somewhat easy using my instructors one.

I have a Desert Eagle .50 AE in bright nickel. I have no problems cocking the slide what so ever. I know that Young Guns had some Desert Eagles, maybe you should compare yours with theirs. Good luck.

Why not just contact imi about the issue.  And might as well already order a recoil spring rebuild kit from what I've read while you got them on the phone

I think you got a lemon.  I have handled a few DE in .50ae and they were all fairly easy to rack the slide.  is the frame/slide straight?
