planning on my next purchase, 1911....would like to ask around for the best recommended reliability, durability, accuracy, attaching scopes & sights

recently did some research and was thinking about the following manufacturers,

-colt
-kimber
-sig sauer
-s&w

what would you recommend?

You left out one of the most popular 1911 makers from your choices, Springfield Armory!!!

They're all basically the same.

I know, I know, there's the purists and fanboys out there that will swear brand X is better than brand Y but in my experience, the big manufacturers all make quality guns.

I have a Springfield I really like and a Kimber as well. I almost bought a used Ruger 1911 from a guy but got beat to the punch.

Go out and shoot some and see which one you like best in terms of looks and goodies on it.

Hey maybe we can have a 2aHawaii 1911 day at the range.

I would look for a 1911 made from forged chrome-moly steel... Frame AND slide.

Most of the better makers have forged frames and slides.
But there are so many 1911 makers nowdays, I've lost track of what is what.
In the past, we stayed away from stainless steel.

thanks guys, yeah i was looking into the Sig Sauer 1911 but heard alot of gripe about the external extractors, so im leaning more towards kimber, or springfield

Are you looking for a competition or defensive gun?
If competition, IPSC, IDPA, Bullseye, or other specialty?
If defensive, Hi-cap, compact, alloy frame, longslide?

I've seen noobs buy guns because of coolness factor, but couldn't use them because they were not compatible for the purpose they were bought for.

 

I would probably be considered a "fanboy" of the Kimber...but that is just me.

I shot a Girsan MC1911-G2 and for a "cheap" 1911 and it shoots pretty damn good!

Want to try this, going to range tomorrow

i was aiming towards a kimber however i was reading that alot of kimbers come out of the box with problems and issues, but that could be the same with any manufacturer......

FYI, OGC has a pretty good selection of 1911s in stock. I got a TRP after looking at several different brands/models.

I have a S&W Pro Series 1911 in .45 ACP that has been very reliable through many thousands of rounds, external extractor and all.  The only gripe I have with it is that the grips that came with gun are a little thicker than I would like.  The grips would be simple to change, I really like the VZs , but I'm just too lazy to order them.  On a side note, SEC used to have it in stock, and they may qualify for the LEO/1st Responder pricing.  I have seen the 9mm version have some feed issues though.  Not sure if the .45 would fit your Bullseye requirements, but it definitely works for USPSA Single Stack division and even Limited or L10 if you don't mind picking up 10 round mags and the added cost of shooting .45 instead of .40.

Bullseye 1911s are rarely off the rack guns. Most are custom jobs. 3inch groups at 50 yards are the standard.
NRA matches allow optics. CMP and Military matches are iron sights only.
Choose wisely.

Not to hijack but I'm wondering the same thing. Only have experience with a trp and I loved it,  for the money I hear its great. 

Side note, are MIM parts even an issue?

Almost forgot...Les Baer makes a DAMN FINE 1911 as well.

I got to shoot my stepdads new sig scorpion, loved it and now want one. Although it is the only 1911 I have ever shot, so I can't really give a good recommendation..
