Stupid question of the day. Are we able to get a C&R license in Hawaii? If so, how do we go about getting one? ??? Sorry, think this supposed to go under "Technical Support" ;D

If you are speaking of a C&R FFL, I think it is possible.  I have heard of folks having it here in Hawaii if I am not mistaken, but there are limits to that license IIRC.

Yeah, from what I understand after purshase, the gun comes straight to your door. You also can't sell it or something. Your a resgistered collector and not a seller. It's kinda rough when you order a gun that cost just as much as an FFL charge. I've been interested in guns over 50years old lately. O0

I was actually looking at some Mosin Nagants on jgsales. If you buy 5 it's $69 each. Figured 5 FFL charges are kind of pricey. $20 FFL's! Where? I only know of the $40 ones

where do you live?  I know they have them on Oahu.  Maui has two $20 ffl's.

I live in Waipahu. It's cool though, when I get a chance I'm gonna ask OGC. I bought my first gun there so I always try to give them business first. I tried to check a place called E TAC or Go Guns not sure what there real name is. There up In Waipio. I like the Saiga12's very much and they're supposed to be specialist with that gun. So I'll ask them next.... ;)

I think I might pick up my friends Mosin M44. It's a lot more rare than the 91/30's. My friends gonna give me a real good deal on the M44 plus ammo. I got the classic distraction. I never bought more than one gun at a time before. I thought it would be one charge no matter how much guns you bring in. I have a lot too learn.....

I have a current C&R license and purchased a WWII-era Mauser K98k online a couple years ago.  What you have to do is request the C&R forms from the BATF.  I had to request hard copy forms through the mail when I did it, so I'm not sure if they've improved the system yet and made the forms at least printable from their website.   You fill them out and send them back to them with the fee (it was $30, per application/renewal), with a copy going to the Chief of Police here at HPD.  It's the same application process with everyone in the country as of the last time I applied (about 2008).  A good explanation on the whole process can be found HERE.  You can order C&R elligible firearms online (there's a list of specific firearms provided by the BATF or you can go with the at least 50-years old rule) and they can be shipped directly to you.   However when you register your new acquisition down at HPD, you still need a valid permit and you'll need to bring a copy of your C&R cert as well as a copy of the page in the C&R elligible firearms list showing that the firearm you bought is indeed elligible under C&R rules.

When I decided that I no longer wanted to collect I found that it is more of a pain to sell off anything you obtained with your C&R.  Since the firearm is registered under your name, you still need to conduct a transfer to get it out of your name.  I ended up selling my Mauser under consignment and lost a little money because the store didn't recommend selling it for at least what I paid for it.  So you can't just trade stuff with another C&R holder on the mainland like they can, all because of the registration here.  I'll probably keep my C&R just for the discounts that you can get at MidwayUSA and Brownells.  If you ask for it and send them a copy of your C&R, they will give you a dealer account and the discounts are often well worth the C&R license fee.

Oh man! Thank you TUOR! I will definitely look into it. If a gun is under $100 (not saying I'm rolling in dough or anything) it's easier to keep it knowing that it's almost to cheap to sell. I can see where if you have a 20 plus gun collection of C&R type guns, it would suck knowing you have $2000 dollars worth that you'll have a hard time getting cause you'll have a hard time selling it. Especially if you need emergency cash! Thanks again.... Must get the pen and paper to write some of this down. Awesome info!:shaka:

Definately OT, But, I can recall the days when C & Rs were Not required and Registration of rifles and shotguns were Not required.

Could go directly to Sears(Beretainia St) and buy surplus rifels off the shelf, K-98s for $30

Or, you could go to Big 88 Surplus store, (also on Beretania St) and go thru the Barrels of surplus rifles and pick and choose which one
you wanted.  All were under about $20 or so.

Times have changed, Crime is worse not than when it was then.......

Glad I could help you BananaClip.  All of the credit should go to the Surplus Rifle website that I linked - it's a great resource for everything C&R related.  It would be a good idea to do some more reading and research over there in case I missed anything.  Regardless, good luck and happy collecting!

So even though I'm a ffl holder, I have to permit myself to bring a firearm in?  That's kind of retarded.

Or am I missing something?
