My friend built a 556 and 308 15 years ago out of titanium.

Hes an aircraft machinist in Wa for boeing. 

I have to look thru my pics.

Before coming back into the Army, I spent about 16 years as a R&D Design Engineer. I worked will all kinds of metals (we made mechanical seals for pumps) and Titanium in an awesome metal because of its strength and weight, but it is difficult to machine and really expensive. I am not surprised at the cost of this. I would love to hold it and do some testing on it.

The barrel and  bolt are still made of steel.  Those are really the only parts that would cut weight.   :wacko:
