Off topic but...
Besides entering into a match, is there a range that one can practice shooting those ranges prior to a match?  I will speak for myself here.  As much as I would like to think I have a decent shot, I have never been able to go to a range and actually shoot paper targets out to those ranges and would prefer not to make a ass out of myself by entering a match just to validate my hunch that I need more practice.  Longest distance I can shoot at Kokohead is at approx. 450 yards and the smallest target is supposedly 4x4"...  Don't get me wrong it's fun, but shooting those plates while prone or benched is borderline too easy.  It's kinda hard to gauge where you stand when this is the only available outlet to shoot at (for some).

There is no place i am aware of on Oahu,  that the public can get to, for longer distance practice.  Kokohead can give you an idea of your numbers.  Scaled down practice @ 100yards with a .22lr will give an idea of what it will be like shooting a .308 @ 500, wind wise.  Otherwise, the only way is to learn up on drop and drift, have your numbers ready, then confirm them at the match, or a practice match.

does anyone have any real life experience with a Remington 700 5r?

I had one, it was a 1/2" gun out of the box.  Only thing I had done to it was barrel threading.

is there such a thing as 400 500 or 600 yards targets scaled down for 100 yard shooting? I've been printing targets that are 2"x2" and shooting that but doesn't take into account bullet drop at those distances....

So many people with .308s, not much shooting F-class.  3, 5, 600 yards. Not that hard right?  Take those breaks off, and shoot some paper at a match.  1 MOA 10 ring and 1/2 MOA X.  Shooting those nice rifles at 100 yards and at huge steel plates at kokohead is... well.. its good practice.  :)
How about we save some tree's by not shooting paper and have a challenge on something more fun like goats on the run at 600yards ? Or more . Lol j/j
Fast is fine , accuracy is final

You could try the hi power 100yd targets, they are reduced up to 600 yds.

I have reduced F-class targets for 100 yards for .22 practice.  What matters is the score rings are 1/2 MOA X, 1 MOA 10, etcetera.  Reduced high power targets rings are too large for scopes, they are intended for irons.  It'll be too easy.

Sounds like fun! Lol. Would be hard with my target rifle tho. I can just imagine myself hauling a 30" barrel around the bush.  Hahah

how come they don't allow muzzle brakes? do they have competitions which allow muzzle brakes?

It is in the rules for NRA F-class competition, CMP rules, and...
Also,
We shoot from the prone position and in the grass and dirt.  So, when you fire with the muzzle break on, the grass and dirt is kicked up on the other shooters.  Also, the muzzle blast is distracting, irritating, and really not needed for a .308 Winchester cartridge.  They sometimes allow breaks, usually during practices matches/sight in days, but you would need to contact the match coordinator in advance to make accommodations.  He'll probably put you on the end of the firing line.  But your neighbor may or may not appreciate it. lol. just common courtesy.
