A new Android app asks users to expose the home addresses of gun owners they deem “potentially unsafe” -- and share that information with the world.

They never realized after the last "interactive" gun owners map of NY or NJ that its a bad idea and not safe for the residence and others as well.

Has any of us download it to see what it looks like or what it asks those people that input data?

Probably good to use that app to tag all the anti-gunners and all kinds of idiotic stuff.

Throw all kinds of junk info in there and the database becomes useless.
I think, therefore I am armed.

Yes. A good idea. The developer states that he is a gun owner, so let him have a taste of his own poison.

Statement from Brett Stalbaum,
given exclusively to Fox News Science and Technology Editor Jeremy Kaplan after his interview request yesterday. Much respect to fair and balanced journalism, btw. Good on Fox News for yesterday’s balanced article.

The world woke up this morning to find that the App remains a gun safety App with which parents and community members can alert each other to dangerous conditions in their neighborhoods. The “gun rights” community has been busy making personal threats (we remain unconcerned), as well as spamming the Gun Geo Marker database with false markers. Though these fake markers are not useful for identifying dangerous guns and owners, they are certainly representative of the highly paranoid reaction we have come to expect from any attempt to improve gun safety in the United States. This kind of reaction, automatically lining up on the wrong side of reasonable measures to improve the safe use and ownership of guns, aids and abets the crisis of child shooting deaths. Sadly too, it represents a long term threat to the second amendment. As a gun owner myself, I want to see our rights preserved, and thwarting the will of 90% of the American People who want common sense, constitutional measures to improve gun safety is mathematically unwise. Personally, I find it sad that the second amendment is represented most vociferously by a paranoid minority who respond to imaginary problems with threats, intimidation, and legal solipsism. What I am suggesting here is that the Gun Geo Marker should be a tool for serious gun rights advocates to help their own cause by assisting as a responsible community in the reduction child gun deaths and other public safety issues related to unsafe or prohibited gun owners. The paranoid reaction that construes the tool as a problem speaks to a certain depravity on the part of a frightened and irrational minority of gun owners among us.

This is a misguided implementation of what should be a national effort: to ensure firearms are stored properly in all homes and businesses.

I have long held the opinion the government needs to spend some of its "save the children" money it spends every year on feel-good programs to subsidize safes for gun owners.

If you buy a gun, you get a $125 rebate on a handgun safe.  If you need a bigger safe, trade in the old one for a bigger one, and get the $125 rebate, too.  The used safes can be reset to factory combos and used in place of the rebate (recycle for new handgun owners).

Simply marking a home as "gun dangerous" is not going to "save a child's life".  That would require parents to actively review that database and only let their children visit there if NOT listed.

"Hello.  This is Ms. Smith.  Can Johnny come play with Suzie today?"

"Just a minute.  I'm sorry, but your house was marked as not safe for children.  Johnny can't visit your home!"  *click*

Yeah.  I see that happening!  (NOT!)

I would think that this guy as a responsible gun advocate would support reporting people who are felt to be threats to public and private safety to the Police instead of marking them on a map without due process of law.

I have an android phone. Trying it out.

So far... has a crappy, half thought out interface. As far as I can tell you have to be standing AT the site to mark it. You can't even move the map around to browse it - just zoom in and out.

So the developer is suggesting that concerned citizens download the app and go marching into dangerous territory to mark them.

According to the app when it finally found my location: "Good news! No dangerous guns."

That right, Mofo's. Only safe guns around here. And tons of them.
