What's your opinion on putting a red dot (say, RMR) on a milled slide, say Glock slide?

Let's assume you are not going to re-sell, etc. and this is purely for your own usage.

Anyone actually HAVE this modification? I know there is an attachment that you can use which does not require milling, but it raises the RMR much higher.

I read that there are shops you mail your slide to on the mainland, and they will do a CNC job to mill it for you and send the slide back (I assume you need to send using your dealer or something and not just via USPS?)

I put night sights (did the job myself!) on my G19 but wondering about red dots.

Personally, I would buy a milled slide with the red dot.  That way you can swap slides with or without the red dot as needed.  Red dots are not good for some training, concealed carry, etc.  Having both slides will be a plus for a little more more investment, and it'll keep your original slide intact.

Yes I agree on that but what is the procedure for buying milled slides? We can't just buy the slides right? Do they have to be registered? Or are they not considered the "receiver" / (frame) and so we can just buy like we buy sights and grips? (and how much $ approx?)

The slide does not have to be registered.

You can have 10 slides for 1 gun and don't have to register them.

The link from KK, http://www.lonewolfdist.com/ is a good place to start.  Bare slides are in the $200-$275 range.  Assembled slides (firing pin and all other parts) are about $100 higher.  Depends on caliber, type, etc.

Check the link and browse around.  You can send your own original slide or buy from Wolf, but Wolf won't drill and tap an O.E.M. (after market) slide that they don't sell.  Options then are buy a slide from Wolf to have the red dot mounted to, or get an OEM slide from elsewhere to use without the red dot ... then have the original slide drilled and tapped.

Many people's carry guns are going with red dots.  Glock 19's /26's... etc.    Red dots have been and are the future of sight systems. Important to get it milled so you can co witness with silencer sights if required.  My next gun will have a either a leupold or trijicon RMR on it; however, this is on hold till I can get a scope for the rifle and start working on my long range stuff.

Recommend you talk to the Lone Wolf folks directly.  Any issues like that should be easy for them to answer directly so you get the whole answer.
