Daniel @ KGS was cool to me when he did my FFL.  He's intense but overall he's alright.  The only BAD experience I've ever had was Magnum but since he's in the Clink I'd go back and give them another chance.

Visited Young Guns, OGC, X-Ring, and Honolulu Firearms & Range when I was deciding to purchase an AR.  I decided on X-Ring to build me one in 7.62 and 'til this day I am still  "stoked".

Going to X-Ring is very convenient for me. Great Customer Service.  Including the AR, I also purchased a bolt-action rifle and a 9mm pistol all within one-year from them.

I still visit YG & OGC when I'm in the area. They are some great bunch of guys there too, but I'm never going back to HF&R.

#1 - X-Ring
#2 - YG & OGC (Tie)

I shop at almost every gun shop on the island.

I buy most of my ammo from SEC and OGC.

I buy/ have bought guns from every single gun shop on island.

I enjoy hanging out and talking with the staff at  X-Ring, SEC, OGC, & Gunsource.

I buy most of my parts at X-Ring.

Most of the gun shops have a great staff and pretty good prices.

There is intense as in taking your job seriously; then there is intense as in being an intense D-bag know it all, condescending potential customers.

Like I said, understandable that it takes a certain mindset to be a LGS owner, and that you have to deal with occasional tards, sometimes more often than not; but treating almost EVERYONE like they have no idea what they are talking about, or that they are stupid for inquiring on certain subjects, will definitely send customers elsewhere.

I guess its a good thing, as I made an effort to go somewhere else, which is how I found out about OGC and decided to make the commute there to get my ammo, and continue to do so to this day.  :shaka:

+1. I totally agree with you. Had a bad experience myself @ KGS. I was asking questions about piston ARs and he went off on why I wanted one. Saying that people like me does not know enough about guns to make a good decision, not knowing that I own couple of each type, configured in all sort of setups. Then he had the nerve to try to sale me one of his piston ARs. When I told him why would I buy a piston AR now, after his lecture. He got all bent out of shape.

These are my picks
OGC for prices and inventory
Young Guns for prices (when they decided to put guns on sale)
SEC for consignment firearms
Gunsource for discounts (if you talk to Tony long enough, Lol)

I've never been in X-ring but I be going there soon.  :shaka:

:-)  Apparently that's his pet peeve.  While I was there he went off on some guy who asked the difference between GI and Piston and which is better.

I've never been to KGS, but I really appreciate that he posts his inventory online. It's great to be able to know what's in stock before having to drive out there.
I think that for prices, I've yet to see someone come close to Danger Close Tactical. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a huge inventory. But I would definitely suggest taking a look, and like KGS, he has his inventory posted online.
I have no complaints about customer service from OGC, SEC, WGS, X-Ring, Young Guns, Honolulu Firearms... all have been very helpful, welcoming, and knowledgeable. There has only been one store that I've visited and I didn't like the CS, so I haven't returned.
Same with inventory: OGC, SEC, X-Ring, YG & Honolulu Firearms all have a large number of different firearms and supplies. I buy my ammo almost exclusively from OGC and SEC (and Sports Authoritah, when in stock) but mainly because I live and work in town.

OP, as to your follow-up question, I think it's hit or miss. Moosed got a great deal on his Sig, but I could save $300/each by buying my HK P30 & HK45 online (and that's after shipping + FFL fee). It's a matter of shopping around. Even if I might not buy the actual firearm locally, the money I save on the hardware goes to an LGS when I need an extra mag, or get an accessory, or for more ammo. That way I don't feel as if I'm screwing the LGS out of sales, but am also not screwing myself over by paying a 35% markup just to buy the firearm locally.

1) OGC - Nearby and great prices. The only downside is their non-existent parking.
2) SEC - Great customer service and their parking is pretty decent.

There are not many LGS on the Big Island. But if you're ever in Hilo or Kona check out

Steubs Guns and Ammo: Good selection at great prices. Bought my Glock 19 gen 4 at $599 and my Beretta 92fs inox at $679 their website: http://www.hiloguns.com

North Pacific Firearms: Are a Sig Sauer dealer and mostly have those in stock their prices are fair as well i.e Glock gen 3's at 550

Ive have only been to two Kona gun stores

Kona Guns and Ammo: Have a massive selection with fair prices bought my px4 storm .40 S&W at $556 their website: http://www.konaguns.com/index.html

Blue Water Hunter: Nice selection but this is by far the most over priced handguns I've seen on the big island i.e Glock 22 Gen 3 at $650

Have a great week fellow 2aHawaii

So far I've been to Young Guns in Manapua and Security Equipment near Ala Moana. Expensive compared to mainland but friendly. Where is OGC? I could not find

Those gun shops in Manapua are expensive.

If you go to the one in Mapunapuna, you'll save some money

ogc doesn't always have the best prices, especially for HK stuff.  Not nearly anywhere near as bad as xring though which has got to have the most $$$ for guns I've ever seen!  they have selection in stock though so if you gotta have something and got the cash, why not go ahead and splurge on it.

Anything in Hawaii cost more when you have shipping involved.

SOME retailers and wholesalers will only ship handguns by red label ups or fedex next day.  And its their policy. Sucks

Blue water hunter up by costco in kona sells guns? Wow gotta check that out next time I'm in Kona. I've only stopped there a few times to get spearfishing gear while diving in Kona, but never really looked around.

[edit]

Haha just checked online, blue water hunter and blue water hunter outdoors are two different stores
