Moving...Ship Ammo or Sell?
« on: July 18, 2013, 08:42:37 PM »
Moving to the mainland.   I have about 500 rnds each of 9mm, 40 & 45.  Close to 1K rnds of 5.56.  Is it worth the hassle of trying to ship it?  I've read a few of the threads in regard to shipping ammo, and it seems like it's a headache.  I'm willing to pay to have it shipped, but really am still confused as how to do it and who to use.

Or, I could sell it.  Is there enough interest in the forum for me to sell?

Ideas welcome.

Thanks for  your time, guys ;)

Not worth shipping.
Unless you ship it in your household goods and it doesn't cost you anything more.

40,45 & 5.56 are plentiful right now.

If anything, just ship the 9mm and 22lr if you have it.

Sell the rest and just rebuy it when you get wherever you're going.

how much 9mm are you charging for a bottle?

I'll trade limoncello for the 9mm; or just buy it

someone also asked in another thread, and i guess we could handle this through PM
depending on how much you value the 9mm, $30 could be from 64 to 82 rounds

Well right now, I have only 24oz bottles because my shipment of 12oz bottles didn't come in yet.

People usually 'donate' 17.50 for my 12oz, so I was looking to trade a 24oz for $30 in rounds for 7.62x54r, and I guess the same would apply to 9mm

Ship ammo with your house hold goods

The following items may not be shipped as HHG (for a complete listing see JTR, Appendix A):
1. Motor vehicles, boats that cannot be fitted into a van (whether or not actually shipped by van), airplanes, mobile homes, camper trailers, and farming vehicles
2. Live animals, birds, fish, and reptiles
3. Cordwood and building materials
4. Property for resale, disposal, or commercial use rather than for use by the employee or immediate family
5. Privately owned live ammunition
6. Hazardous articles including explosives, flammable and corrosive materials, poisons, etc.

I assume if the DoD prohibits ammo, movers in general do as well.

You assume wrong.

I've moved two times and both times shipped ammo in household goods.

Two different movers were good with it.

I appreciate the replies! Moving for family reasons. A relative is in need of some assistance, and we're surprisingly the closest and most "mobile" ready relative actually willing to help.

In regard to the ammo, I guess I'll sell everything but the 9mm. As I'm not moving any real household goods (just really getting rid of everything) and using the post to ship my boxes, any advice on companies who ship hazmat? FedEx as the best option? Like I said, I don't mind paying to ensure my safety in my new place of residency.

I'll hang a post in the classifieds when I have a bit more time. Kind of busy at the moment and using my phone to reply.

Again, thanks for the replies and well wishes.

As an added incentive, I'm moving to a state with open carry, concealed carry and only requires the registering of handguns due to said open and concealed carry laws :)

It has title 3 licensing (i believe that's what it is called?) but I wouldn't want that because you subject yourself and your home to random inspections by the feds.
