You're still handpicking which post you want to emotionally reply to and then choosing to ignore the posts with the facts when you're unable to contend it. This is why you invalidate your own arguments, because there we see you're not actually concerned about what you claim to represent: Defend Hawaii and making Hawaii safe. Your only goal that I can see is to be against firearms and people being able to defend themselves outside of their homes. If you're really concerned about Defending Hawaii & making Hawaii safe and you actually base your decision on facts, you'd be way too busy to post here as you'd be lobbying for DARE & MADD at the very least.

You don't blame the car when a drunk driver kills someone, but you blame the gun when a criminal kills someone. If I'm wrong and you are somewhere lobbying against ownership of cars and/or drinking alcohol, then please correct me.

And what about the estimated 200,000 women each year who use guns to DEFEND themselves from sexual assault? What do you tell them when you take their guns away? Call the cops and hope they catch the guy after the fact?

DH,

Stop deflecting. It's a common tactic used by criminals during an interrogation to avoid facing the truth. Comment on the quote above. I would be interested to hear your take on it.

By the way, to further contrast your previous point that Hawaii a safe place to live without CCW, the number of Forcible Rapes in Hawaii has jumped up pretty significantly in the last 3 years-to the fourth highest amount in the last 40 years.(1)  As a LEO in the military, I sincerely sympathize with the families of those Officers who died at the hands of murders, let's be honest, you're talking about 9 people over the course of 3 years across the entire country. What about the 1,081 women JUST IN HAWAII who were forcibly raped during that same time period? Maybe some of those women would have had a chance of defending THEMSELVES (instead of Hawaii) had their right to bear arms been restored. By the way, they aren't allowed to carry a taser or baton for their protection either. How the anti-2a crowd does not realize that they are COMPLICT in the violent acts committed against those women is beyond me.

If you truly cared about "Defending Hawaii," then you would open your eyes and look at what problems the citizens of the state of Hawaii are currently facing and RATIONALLY determine if returning 2nd Amendment rights to The People would mitigate them. Or do you have such little faith in your fellow Hawaiians that you don't trust them with a gun?

Nice youtube video, if it actually pertained to the subject I would have paid more attention.

Cpl Mike Roberts, shot and killed by Huberto Delgado was done with an AR-15, not a pistol, meaning whether he had a CCW is irrelevant. He shot the guy with a rifle, which just about ANYONE can get their hands on. In the context of CCW causing more or less death, this death is irrevelvant to the arguement.

James Wonder, the 65 year old who shot Officer Pettit, was FOLLOWED into a parking lot after a road rage incident (both drivers yelling and making obsene jestures). Officer Pettit, followed Mr Wonder into a parking lot, and BLOCKED Mr Wonder's car. He then got out of the car and confronted Mr Wonder. Due to the man's size and age, Mr Wonder (who was 65 at the time of the altercation), felt there was a legitamite threat to his life. Remember Florida has STAND YOUR GROUND, he was not obligated to hide in his car. Case hasn't gone to trial yet...

3 Pittsuburgh officers shot by Richard Poplawski, were gunned down with an AK-47. Poplawski was lying in wait, armed and armored, for those officers. He didn't walk up to them in the street with a concealed handgun, he used a rifle in his home to shoot those officers. Same as Huberto Delgado (see above), CCW license is irrelevant again, a rifle was used.

Christina Korbe, killed the FBI officer. Again not a CCW issue, as she shot and killed him in her home. The FBI agents and police broke down the door to her home serving a warrant. Her claim is that she didn't know that there were officers in her home. When she walked out to the top of the staircase, she saw intruders coming up toward her children's room. She felt that there was a legit threat to her kids and shot once at the intruders. She immediatly called 911 and told the dispatcher she thought she shot an intruder in her home. Again, doesn't appear she knew law enforcement had entered her home.

I'm not disagreeing that these deaths are tragic, they are. But in the context of stating that CCW is "bad", this video holds no weight as many of the instances are NOT of CCW use.

Dunno why you somehow think you have the authority to speak for the entire state. You can't even support your own argument, let alone anybody else's.

I will be at HPD Firearms in about an hour if any of you want to have a talk about this!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I've figured out why you're so cranky about all this CCW business.  You're the registrar lady who has to do all the firearms paperwork down at the police station, aren't you?  More permits means more work for you, which is why you're so blatantly against CCW.  I'll be sure to say hello next time I'm registering a gun.

Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose:  For example, concealed weapons prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment or state analogues.  KEEP ON FIGHTING CULT I MEAN 2A MEMBERS AND HAWAII WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms. Miller’s holding that the sorts of weapons protected are those “in common use at the time” finds support in the historical tradition of prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons

Wow, you REALLY suck at this whole source material thing. Is it really THAT hard to post a link at the bottom of your post? Anywho, I don't know why I continue to waste my time with you...but I'm sick and sitting at home, so what else am I going to do?

Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited.

"Shall not be infringed" is pretty damn clear to me...but I will defer to modern interpretation which says that "reasonable regulation" is authorized - since the other constitutional rights are essentially held to the same standard. Just like EVERY AMERICAN has the right to freedom of speech, but needs a permit to protest; EVERY AMERICAN also has THE RIGHT to keep and BEAR (BTW, modern interpretation has found that this does mean "to carry" "in CASE of confrontation" NOT "in the event of"...there is a very significant difference between the two phrases) arms, but the state may choose to require a permit to do so.

It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose:

The primary purpose of the 2nd Amendment was to protect The People from a tyrannical government. This, I believe, is why the Founding Fathers stated that our right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. If the government is able to limit us to carrying muskets and muzzleloaders while the military is packing semi-automatic and suppressed .308 rifles, it is not reasonable to believe that The People are, in fact, able to defend themselves from the government. Furthermore, you have CONTINUED TO IGNORE my question relating to Open Carry. Here in Hawaii, we cannot carry a weapon IN ANY MANNER.

For example, concealed weapons prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment or state analogues.

Yes, they have been upheld ONLY in locations where The People are able to carry openly. In Hawaii, we ARE NOT able to do so. I constantly feel like I'm arguing with a 9th grader who is doing his first-ever research paper. You continue to quote statistics and points that have been refuted countless times. At least do us a favor and try to come up with something at least A LITTLE more creative.

KEEP ON FIGHTING CULT I MEAN 2A MEMBERS AND HAWAII WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So it is now considered a "cult" to defend the constitution? Wow...just. WOW.

The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill,

I'm pretty sure everyone here agrees with this and no one is calling for either group of people to be allowed to carry.

or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings,

Oh, you mean "Criminal Empowerment Zones?" Open your eyes, the VAST VAST VAST majority of active shooter tragedies happen in EXACTLY the places listed in the quote. This IS NOT a coincidence. Criminals KNOW that they will be only person with a gun in these locations...they is why they CHOOSE them.

You do understand that the cases Heller cited, like Nunn, were referencing that concealed can be regulated when open carry is constitutionally protected and authorized. It's nearly given that states are authorized to regulate the manner of bearing arms, so far as they do not burden and infringe upon all forms of the right (i.e., you may restrict open carry, when you are allowing -- and issuing -- permits to conceal carry, or you may strike down concealed carry if you allow citizens to openly bear there arms). See: Nunn v. State, 1 Ga. (1 Kel.) 243 (1846).

Getting HPD involved in civilian concealed carry training is a pipe dream at best.  While I agree that training is good and people should take it upon themselves to train as much as financially possible, I do not feel there should be any law forcing individuals to submit to govt sponsored training to exercise an inalienable right.  As far as Law Enforcement goes, the only thing we need to do to carry is meet the bare minimum for our dept/agency qualification standards and keep from disciplinary action.  Why should everyone else who wants to carry have to maintain a higher standard than us?
