Let's see those ruger 10/22. Here's mine
-
This one started out as a stainless w/ grey laminated stock.
Then wore a stainless target barrel in a OD green houge stock and 14x scope
Now its a m1 carbine 10/22. Picked up a OEM blued barrel and sprayed the receiver black.
I like that it's a lot lighter now.

Question for you bruddahs who are akamai with 10/22s...
I just received my 18" .920 Green Mountain Bull Barrel. CHEEEEEEEEEE-HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
So what's the deal with barrel droop when installing replacement barrels?
Is this something that happens more regularly with the heavier bull barrels?
Can something be done to prevent this (aside from male ED medications??) or is this something that is just bound to happen over time due to the weight of the barrel?
Thanks!! :shaka:
1022 barrel droop? Pic?
-
.
-
Oh sorry, I should have said that I don't have barrel droop, yet.......
Wait 'til you hit 60!!!!!
-
.
-
Bruddah Inspector, I was waiting for one comment like that!! ;D
Actually surprised it took so long!!
I'm not as quick as I used to be! :geekdanc:
Barrel droop should not be an issue if your barrel has a good tight fit with the receiver. Also, if you do not over tighten the v-block screws.

that's what she said

There is no way to approach this subject without making comments!
Maybe I should start a new subject titled: Does Your Barrel Droop?

Here's one of my 10/22's
Looks like your barrel is drooping!

All kidding aside this is what I am hoping SpeedTek and the good folks at X-Ring will be able to help me transform my 10/22 Takedown into:

Just waiting on the nylon Hogue stock to come in...
Very Nice!

i don't own a 10/22 :(
Don't feel bad. I didn't own one until just a few months ago. Now I am planning on at least one more if two more. :D
SA has them all the time for $229.95. :shaka:

Can't wait to pick up my first one too. Should have gotten this instead of the marlin.

While I believe the take down model that best fits the BOB take it with you is one that is SS with synthetic stock and carbine barrel. In other words, just as it is right now. But I know everyone wants to mod their 10/22's so I have decided I want one with a walnut stock:
http://rugerforum.net/gun-gallery/56684-10-22-take-down.html (http://rugerforum.net/gun-gallery/56684-10-22-take-down.html)
I think it looks pretty nice!!!
-
.
-
Hahahahahahahahaha! That guy had plenty people fooled, yeah?!?
He did a good job on mod'ing that wood stock himself!
I wonder if the wood stock is heavier than the synthetic, and if so, how much heavier it is... still real nice nice!
Just by holding it, I can tell that the bull barrel is going to add some additional weight to the 10/22 TD.
I would imagine that the Hogue Overmolded Nylon stock is heavier than the stock the 10/22 TD comes with, but not sure.
When all is said and done, I might actually end up with a 10/22 TD that is A LOT heavier than the original. :(
That was pretty funny. The sticker looks good on the stock as well!
What I liked about what he did is that he used a regular wood stock to do it. It actually looks pretty simple. And the beauty of it all is it won't cost much to try and find out if one likes it or not.
Weight is relative to your ability to carry it as far and as often as you need. For me the take down will need to be as light as possible.
BTW, my friend purchased one and put a BSA Sweet 22 scope on it and that thing is a real shooter. Very accurate. I believe more so than a stock 10/22.

Finally took a few pics of mine:

Nice rifle Inspector!! I was thinking about getting a promag archangel for one of my 10/22.

Nice rifle Inspector!! I was thinking about getting a promag archangel for one of my 10/22.
Thanks JMB!!! For an inexpensive stock (Relatively speaking) it is a nice stock. I like the way it looks and it fits nice with the adjustable buttstock. I still have not had much of a chance to shoot it. I have only performed a basic sight in with it. I am looking forward to stretching it out a bit and seeing what it can do at distance. If you are looking for a good stock at a good price that looks kewl you will probably like this.
-
Very nice, bruddah Inspector!!
My Hogue stock came in this weekend, but I guess I have to wait until X-Ring reopens(?) in February. :(
Hey New Guy,
I was looking at the Hogue stock for my 10/22 as well. Try call Brian at 368-5263 and see if he'll let you pick it up before February.
-
.
-
Mahaloz, bruddah Inspector... I should have been more clear... so sorry, yeah?
I meant to say my hogue nylon stock came in via USPS (called around and the LGSs only had the rubber kine!)
BTW, if you don't mind me asking, what did you do (if anything) to your 10/22? Extractor? Buffer Tube? Trigger group? Extended mag release? I like the charging handle, too!!
:shaka:
So where are the pictures? Gotta see the 10/22 in its new kine clothes!
The barrel, buffer, charging handle, and extended mag release is Kidd Innovations. The trigger is the Kidd trigger job trigger which fits into the existing Ruger plastic trigger enclosure. Its about half the price of their trigger group. The bolt, extractor, etc. and receiver are al stock Ruger.
-
.
-
Whoa... Kidd accessories AND barrel? I'm all shame now with my crappy Green Mountain barrel!!
Sadly, I won't be able to post many pics until I can get some assistance with cutting and modding the stock, and modifying the 10/22 TD receiver and GM barrel to fit.
Will keep everyone posted, but in the meantime I'm just glad to have a 10/22... Prices on .22 ammo makes things waaaaaaaaay easier to deal with!!
Now to get a semi or revolver in .22lr... Any suggestions?? :D
Not sure why you have to mod the receiver for a GM barrel to fit? I thought they were drop in replacements?
For a .22 semi or revolver my first question is plinking or serious target shooting?
If plinking I would recommend for a semi the new Ruger or any of the Ruger line with slim barrels, Browning w/slim barrel, Walther. For a revolver I would go with a Smith and Wesson 617 (Also can be used for serious target shooting), Ruger Single 6, Taurus. For serious target I would consider Ruger w/Bull Barrel, Browning w/Bull Barrel, and Smith and Wesson semis. Not sure of too many serious target revolvers any more except maybe the S&W 617 mentioned above. I am probably not remembering a few.

Hi stangzilla. What optics are those?
-
Here's mine! Got this gun from my brother that was stored in the closet for 18 years! Can't wait to take her out to koko head rifle range! This 10 22 has a Clark bull barrel on it and all the good stuff in it. Ring and scope is on order. Will post more pictures once the scope is mounted. Thanks for looking! :shaka:
-
.
-
He bought two at that time because it was cheap back then. I guess one for spare. The scope I'm getting is the Nikon ProStaff Rimfire 3-9x40mm Riflescope, Matte w/ BDC 150. This scope is made especially for 22lr . :geekdanc:

Hi stangzilla. What optics are those?
they are centerpoint scope and BSA red dot.
not the best, but they were cheap.
Shown with $1000 worth of ammo.

Hey Kava Boy! Your gun is beautiful! Put mine to shame! Did you polish the whole trigger assembly and the bolt carrier housing or did you buy it?

Nice gun Inspector.... Doesn't even look like a 22...

Bruddah djsmiles808, not sure about compatibility with BX25 mags, but just in case you were interested, I'm pretty sure I saw this stock sitting on the middle counter at Windward Gun Shop just this past Sunday afternoon.
Sorry, but I didn't check to see how much it was...
-
Yep that's the mags we use with it.stock was $150 I think at the time.
-
anyone got a 10/22 for sale?
looking for a stock one, or parts to piece one together
-
Those last two 10/22's are GREAT!!! The best part is they are fun to shoot!
and fun to modify.
its much like modifying Mustangs.
you start with something cheap, modify with tons of aftermarket parts,
until you spend 5 times more on parts than the original gun is worth. ;D
but its a fun journey.
-

I tried to advertise a couple of times. Mostly I got no response or someone trying to sell me one for more than you can get one at SA for ($229). Good luck tho. If you really don't mind spending the bucks you can buy each part separately. Check out tactical solutions website. You can buy new receivers, bolts, etc.

I have a practically new wood stock with barrel band and blued barrel that I'd sell if interested. I shot less than 100 rounds through the rifle in stock configuration. Never used the barrel or stock after that. $70 for both?
I got the rifle from SA and then pretty much just used the receiver.

Not a Ruger receiver. You'll have to get something such as Volquartsen, Tactical Solutions, MOA Corp., or Tactical Machining.

thanks bro was mostly looking for a receiver though. lots of other people seem to be selling all the other parts except for the receiver
edit.
just saw the links flyboy posted up. damn the receivers are expensive and all companies seem to be out of stock and no back ordering. i think im better off just buying a 10/22, keeping it stock and just shooting it. thats all i really wanted it for anyways.

You could also check places like gunbroker for the receiver. I've seen them for less than $100 there but you do have to ship it to an FFL of course. Daniel at Kaneohe Gun Shop is probably the best deal for cheap transfers as he usually charges a % or less than $20 for cheap stuff like that.

thanks for the heads up bro

Anyplace just sell the 10/22 receiver?
This place has the best price for the buck: http://www.tacticalmachining.com/10-22-receiver.html (http://www.tacticalmachining.com/10-22-receiver.html)
Only problem is that, like most places right now, they are out of stock. Also, by the time you also buy a bolt and extractor/firing pin parts for it you may be able to buy a complete 10/22 cheaper. But, with that said, if you are looking to build the ultimate tack driver. One that will put just about any match rifle to shame then you want a machined receiver and bolt plus all the other goodies.
-
Kidd guns are a deal at about $1k for a full build 10/22. If you buy and build on your own its easy to out spend $1k if you look at replacing all including the reciver. For about $550 you can get a fj federson build which is a stock gun with a gun smith fitter custom barrel.

thats true. all this time i thought i was looking for a reciever. then i looked through the links flyboy posted, and was like, these are incomlete, i gotta buy the other parts. then i seen complete ones for sale, and the price, and i was like, im just gonna buy a stock one. not looking for a crazy custom build or anything.
thanks for all the help and links and whatnot.

He has some YouTube vids of him shooting all his CRAZY 10/22's at a range in the mainland somewhere.....

I will post how it goes in a couple weeks most likely.

Picked up a BX-25x2 mag at OGC the other day. 50rds, pretty badass. Not too sure if they have anymore in stock but great addition to any 10/22.

GM Barrels are great so it should shoot as good as it looks! You just need to find the right ammo it likes. Did you modify anything else like the trigger/bolt/handle/mag release?
I just finished a new 10/22 build. I don't want to show it off yet cuz I am still waiting for the rings to show up. I can't wait to get it out to the range to see how it will do.

I haven't modified anything else really. I wanted to get the major parts out of the way. Figure I can slowly build the rest up and it will be easier to convince the wife to spend 30 bucks here and there. The stock feels great and the barrel added weight to the front. It feels like a new gun.
-
Just finished my new lightweight build. Ruger receiver, Kidd lightweight barrel, trigger job trigger, charging handle/spring, bolt, mag release handle, and Boyd's Evolution Stock in Camo. BSA Sweet 22 Scope. Not quite as lightweight as I was hoping for. I should have gone with a Volquartzen barrel instead.
Going to install some sling mounts and try practice standing.
It didn't group like I wanted with the CCI Blazer I brought with me. Still able to hit plastic easter eggs blowing around in the breeze at 100yds. Going to try some better ammo in it next time.
-
Very nice build Inspector!

So what do you think, bruddah SpeedTek... can or no can??
Doing 2 right now!
I know this is old but finally got around to doing some.
Installing New recievers with picatinny rail built in. and Aluminum Barrels with SS insert

Thanks for the tip Fstbckgt! I never thought of that. The excess will come right off with a cleaner not strong enough to ruin the receiver coating?

I just used a toothpick to apply, makes it real easy to not f*** up. But yes paint thinner worked fine when I switched my ar from red to green. Its also nice since eBay has tons of colors for a few bucks a bottle.

Simple build. Thinking of selling since I picked up a takedown.

I have built these. You need to extend the barrel so its 28" overall. I have them available using airsoft donors.

Finished Phase 1
hows the fitment? been reading some fitment issues on the receiver end.

Here is a someones Ruger 10/22 Takedown. I won't mention his name. (Dirtychicken)
I got it because it was shooting all over the place. (Bipod mounted on Barrel)
He wanted to throw it out or put for sale on 2aHawaii. So I told him to let me borrow it.
Took it out to the range the way it was to see how it was. 4" grouping at 100 Yards was Awesome!
Especially with a 4-16x BSA Sweet 22 Scope. Trigger was an awesome match 7lbs!
Went home with all this data in mind.
Tore it apart and...
1. Trigger Job 3lbs
2. Auto-Bolt Release
3. Polished Bolt, Firing Pin
4. Move the Bipod back
5. Added Picatinny Mount for Scope and 1-Piece Scope Mount
6. Modified Butler Creek Folding Stock
Took it out to the range.
Me shooting on a Windy day (7/21) 1" grouping
Also Standing
The other target was mutilated by Dirsh who goes nuts when you tell him shoot all you want.
Ammo was Federal Blazer 22LR Black and Silver Box.
Now the big question is should I give it back?
-
Sell it!!!
To me! LOL!!!!!!
-
wow, good job speedy
i'm sure the owner (xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx), whoever he/she is
will love it
if not, i'll sacrifice and take it off your hands

Nice! What's the details? Looks like a boyds stock, power custom bolt and can't place the triggger
-
i don't own a 10/22 :(
You should get one...they' are cheap, rugged, lots of accessories, and fun plinker
-
Where to start.... Bought this thing brand new 9 years ago, originally a 10/22 sport. I immediately changed the barrel, and stock with a replacement set from Cabelas, and added an extended magazine release. The scope is a 4x, perfect amount of glass in my opinion, and it was originally supposed to be a temporary fix when my previous silver finished scope broke, but its grown on me, so its going to stay on for a while. I took this with me up to Oregon when I was going to school. We would spend an entire day on a ranch, shooting ground squirrels. That was when $5 would buy 500 rounds of rem gold, I miss those days. Im not much into the tacticool look. I prefer my .22 to be a .22, and not look like something it is not, a MSR, but to each his own. I have been wanting to pick up another 10/22 for a while now, and leave it bone stock, but haven't got around to doing that yet.

This is my first 10-22. This is what I have done so far:
AGP folding takedown stock with 1" butt pad
Kidd bolt
Kidd charging handle (I would like the handle a little bit longer so I ordered a JWH extended charging handle to replace it)
Kidd bolt buffer
Kidd single stage drop-in aluminum trigger unit with auto bolt release. Currently set at 4 lbs (It is adjustable down to 1.5 lbs with the turn of a screw, but it seems perfect right now)
Kidd speed magazine release lever
Game Reaper scope mount
Nikon P-22 2-7x scope
Pro-mag tactical barrel band
Harris bipod on Larue mount (borrowed from my AR)
Don't ask me how much I got in this rifle, because I am afraid to calculate it. :shake:

bigkahuna, afaik there is no aftermarket takedown barrel yet.... is there?
I do plan on changing out the barrel when they become available though.
In the meantime, fortunately for my wallet, I have temporarily run out of things to do to it.

Yeah I only realized it was a takedown after I posted. My bad..I was looking at that stock setup but was wondering how well it will match the stock forearm. Where did u get the stock from? Care to share how much?
We need more people to pester tony kidd to make a barrel.

I am making one with a TS Aluminum bull barrel for the TD right now. Hopefully be ready at the gun show.

I was looking at that stock setup but was wondering how well it will match the stock forearm. Where did u get the stock from? Care to share how much?
I got the stock from AGP's website. With the 1" buttpad, it costed $111 before shipping. http://www.agparms.com/agp-folding-stock-for-ruger-10-22-takedown/ (http://www.agparms.com/agp-folding-stock-for-ruger-10-22-takedown/)
As far as how well it matches up, the AGP stock is blockier than the Ruger forearm, but it isn't really all that drastic a difference. Also, the Ruger part has the checkering whereas the AGP doesn't have any. The finish is a similar shade, but the finish is smoother on the forearm, where the AGP feels a bit more textured. Also, you can see circles in the finish at various areas on the AGP stock... where they poured the plastic into the mold? IDK.
you can see the circles I am talking about:

an angle that shows how the AGP is blockier than the forearm:

Nice one gmac!

There are some real nice ones on here, different styles too. I guess thats one of the best things about the 10/22, you can do just about anything to it, and custom build it to match your personality
-
Just finished mine. Stainless 10/22. This things got some weight to it now....
-
Just finished mine. Gonna swap out the handguard for a quad rail thats 2" shorter.
thats a beautiful 22  what stock is that?

My next project... as soon as it is finally released, that is!
Wow, I've been telling my friends for years how much I want somebody to build a P90 in .22!
-
I make the p90 with rugers already. I have the stocks already prepped
Trying to make the charging handle really function.
Couldn't finish it in time for the gun show.
Need to extend the barrel and pin and weld the flash hider
On to be Legal.
-
Just installed my new Kidd trigger. I also installed Promag recoil buffer and it does make a difference. No more metal to metal clanking noise. I also order the Kidd buffers and will compare. How much do you think I can get for the stock triggers? I have two available and one is completely brand new and the other is used for less than 50 rounds.
-
Just the trigger or whole trigger group & housing?
-
Just the trigger or whole trigger group & housing?
The whole housing. I have two single stages. One with the speed lever at 2 1/2lbs and the other is sportsman at 2lbs.

Went from a stainless 10/22 with grey laminated stock that I bought about 20 years ago at a Louisiana Wal Mart...
to a bull barrel in a OD green hogue stock and target scope...
to a iron sighted blued standard barrel with black spray painted receiver that lived in a M1 carbine clone stock....
back to the OD hogue stock with fiber optic sights / red dot..
now this.......HTA 90/20

Barrel shroud could have been better if it was made as a solid piece. The 2 piece design shows the lines down the shroud where it comes together. The better your trigger is before the stock, the better it will be after. My trigger had a lot of pre-travel before install, so it is magnified with the addition of the trigger bar. The trigger bar doesn't flex at all, so upgrading the trigger should give great results. I haven't had the chance to fire it yet, but it function checks just fine. The fit is great and everything feels as solid as if it was a actual build, not a drop in stock.
It's nice that both the p90 trigger safety and factory safety both function. The top rail is attached to only one side of the shell, so no need to remove the optic when disassembling. It should return to zero (or close enough for red dot) once put back together given the super tight fit of the stock.
Overall, I really like it! I do recommend HTA's accessories that include their extended mag and bolt release. They are longer than normal extended controls so you don't need to reach way up in the stock. Their 2 mag coupler also works well and gives it more of a p90 look without a bx25 sticking out the bottom.
Just gotta go shoot the damn thing now.....

I Started with a Stock Ruger, figured why start with something I would eventually replace everything on.
Boyds Tacticool Stock
F.J. Feddersen 16.25 Bull Barrel
Volquartsen VQ HP Action Kit
Tac Sol Scope Rail
Burris Fullfield 3X-9X-40mm
Volquartsen Misc. other stuff
I worked a Magpul MOE Rail and mounted it on the stock so I could use my Harris BRMS with a DLOC-S
Harris BRM-S 6-9" Bipod, Alamo Four Star DLOC-S and SARG Knob (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfRkjW8wfdA#)
I wanted a Bipod I could use on this or my AR, instead of having multiple Bipods.

Wow, that looks so cool. Now if they'd just make it in a takedown model with a threaded barrel, it'd be perfect.

Nice looking setup here, Specs?
This rifle evolved over 10 years so details is cloudy.
Factory 10/22 receiver and aluminum trigger housing
B&C Anshutz thumbhole stock. Pillar and glass bedded, adjustable cheek rest- owner
GM SS Fluted 20" .920" 1:16 barrel
Rimfire Tech full width trigger, torsion spring and over travel stop.
Power Kustom adjustable hammer and sear
Radiused, polished and trued bolt. Polished firing pin- owner
EGW 20 moa base
Vortex rings
Millet TRS-1 scope
Many more smaller parts but cost wasn't as bad as it sounds. The barrel and several other parts were used.

Don't look past a factory stock 10/22 either. My daughter has a completely stock rifle with a 2-7 scope. It shoots impressively well.

Well then allow me to make a couple of recommendations just to help you narrow down your choices a bit. If your main goal is to go for looks (other than the stock), that looks really really cool (for instance colors other than black and stainless) then Tactical Solutions and Voquartzen are probably your best choices as they provide good performance with good looks. Volquartzen being the better performing parts of those two. But Tactical Solutions has some even cooler looking pieces. On the other hand, if performance is your main goal and cool looks with either black or stainless is what you want then go with Kidd Innovations parts. For stocks it is such a personal choice I won't even try to steer you in any direction. Except that I have a few stocks by Boyd's and their stocks are of good quality.

I see quite a bit of impressive 10/22s when I shoot at KHSC. Far more "bling" than my humble build. I was curious as to know how many of you were Rimfire Central members and if any participate in the 22 rimfire challenge. Any of you in the 1/2"@50 or "The Holy Grail" club? I've shot many a sub 1/2" groups in my time but not any targets that would qualify. 3 of 4 targets sub MOA is hard with a 22. I go under the same username there.

I shot in the their rimfire challenge many many years ago. I never bothered to post my targets as I was ashamed. :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:
I suppose when I was testing my first 10/22 build or testing ammo in my Annie I probably had an occasional 0.50" @ 50yds. But with the winds out here even when there feels like there is no wind, you put a flag out there and it swirls around.
I go under the name "Kona Dave" over there. I usually hang out/monitor the Annie, High Standard, Marlin and ammunition sections. I usually try and just cruise by the 10/22 sections as I am too weak to resist doing another build.

Same here. To me having 1 group in the .4s is impressive. You need to have 3 of 4 just to qualify. The funny part is the top 5 in the 50y challenge are all in the .1s. Wow. .4 and .5s are what they are scoring in the Holy Grail 100y challenge.

Makes you wonder...
Some people have to be the best no matter what. It could very easily be that someone shot a target at 5yds or 10 or 25....and lied. Or even used a .223/5.56 rifle to make the holes. Who knows? I never have seen any .22 rifle be that accurate outside where even the slightest wind will adversely affect your bullets.
That's why I didn't bother to upload my targets because not only was I ashamed of my lousy target that was far from perfect, but I suspect some of those guys were cheating. I'm just doing this for the fun of it. I hope those that didn't upload their targets had fun. That is the point of all of this.
-
Yes RFC is a huge forum with thousands of members, I'm sure some may be cheating but I do feel most of the well known guys are legit. Those that are leaders are known in the rimfire game and have their real names attached to their usernames. This guy although not a 10/22 really opens your eyes to how serious some guys get in the benchrest game http://www.6mmbr.com/gunweek078.html . Some have money to burn and beautiful weather and wind conditions to shoot from.
I'm part of a few rimfire groups on Facebook. I've got into discussions with several shooters that say their 10/22 will shoot sub 1" @ 100y with Remington Golden Bullets all day. When I call them out on it and tell them to shoot the Holy Grail target and post it. ZERO has done so. I shoot 100 regularly with 22s, I know how hard it is to buck the wind at that distance

Bench rest is a whole shooting sport all to it's own. While it takes skill it also takes expensive equipment.
I have shot 1" at 100yds here occasionally. I find I have to use decent ammo to get that sort of result. I refuse to shoot Remington .22's, especially the Golden Bullets, due to how dirty they are. If they shot 1" at 100yds I would be very surprised. Maybe they have gotten better in the last few years? IDK. I have not had any for 3 or 4 years, maybe longer. It used to be the rumor that the golden bullets were the rejects from another line of cartridges they packaged better and charged more for. And they used to be only bulk packed. Not sure if they still only bulk pack them or not? They used to be in the same category as Thunderbolts and Wildcats. LOL
I had 3 boxes of Aguila Super Extra Standard Velocity I brought to the range last weekend. They are the bottom of the barrel Aguila target grade and has been selling for around $6/box. Yes it is expensive. My lightweight 10/22 loved them. Sub MOA at 50yds. I need to shoot more of them to make sure they are not a fluke. Now I have to find some.
I find it harder to shoot at plastic Easter eggs hanging and blowing around in the wind at 100yds. Next time I bring out the eggs I'll let everyone know and you guys can come by and take some pot shots at them.

Here is my new takedown setup. I was very happy with the accuracy of my last setup, but some of my friends had trouble shooting it. I am thinking since the scope was receiver-mounted, the POI would be affected depending on how they were holding the rifle. IDK.
Anyways, I took that as an excuse to buy a barrel with a mounted picatinny rail. I am hoping that it won't matter as much how they hold it since the scope will move with the barrel now.
This is the Volquartsen carbon fiber 16.5" takedown bull-barrel with forend. The barrel/forend costed just as much as my rifle. :-[ Quality does seem excellent though. I just switched it out today so I need to re-zero it again.
Since my last post, I also changed out the scope mounts to Leupold low mounts and added some Butler Creek scope covers. I am not 100% happy with the AGP Arms folding buttstock, but I like that it is easy to carry on my motorcycle. If I owned a car, I think I would rather have the Magpul Hunter X-22 takedown stock conversion.
The only thing stock on my rifle now is the receiver. If I had a receiver I could build another rifle. hmm.... ;D

Very Interesting build sound wave. I need to see this in person. So you take this apart regularly to transport? Doesn't the scope hanging off the barrel get knocked around? I'm sure it's a shooter. Join us in the 22 fun shoots.

Thanks. Yeah if I rode my bike, then I took it apart, put it in a bag, and put it in my top case.
Hmm.. You are right about the scope. Plus, with the way the scope is mounted now, it is too long and won't fit in my usual bag anymore. I just switched to this barrel today so I haven't tried transporting it yet.
I hope it is a shooter. It used to be.
I just did a search about the 22 fun shoot. Sounds fun. I don't know if I will be ready by this month. I am really bad at standing and shooting a rifle.

Something I thought about... A bunch of precision bolt gun shooters use the Larue Tactical one piece QD mounts, They regularly remove their scopes and reattach it. They say it's really solid, repeatable and holds zero every time, Of course they are not cheap. ;D With one you could remove the scope and maybe still fit it in your bag
Please post an update on how it shoots. Might take a couple of trips to really see how it shoots. What kind of trigger group and bolt work have you done if any. Really cool build.
With the fun shoot, it really is just for fun. Standing is going to be tough but we got to practice it sooner or later. For me I like to shoot positions when I can. it's challenging and fun.

I have Larue mounts on my AR and really like them. That is a good idea. I am presently gathering parts for a dedicated .22 AR upper build so I have to stop spending money on my 10/22 for the time being.
The trigger assembly is the Kidd single stage. Bolt is Kidd also. I also have the Kidd bolt buffer, charging handle assembly, and extended magazine release.
I got so much money in this rifle but I am sure someone with a stock rifle could still beat me. :( No amount of parts can make up for my lack of skill. Still, it is fun buying stuff and modding. :)
edit: thanks Paka

Last Wednesday, my son and I went to shoot my semi-custom 10/22.
He turned 21 this year so this rifle will be passed on to him.
I think that makes a fine birthday present for a young man.
It's NOT a camouflaged purple stocked-20x tactical scope-laser guided -volquartsen-frankenstein gun.
It does have a bull bbl, hogue stock, mildot scope and bipod. It's all black and nothing much to look at.
But it sure as hell shoots straight.
We had a good time banging a little steel groundhog at about 90 yds.

For a vanilla flavor stock 10/22 I'm trying to decide between a Vortex Diamondback 2-7 X 35 scope and a Weaver 2-10 X 38 V series for up to 100 yds. The vortex is argon purged and has a good warranty while the weaver is made in Japan. Any thoughts on which is a better buy?
This is for the regular full stock configuration but I plan to use my Vortex Sparc II when in the folding stock.

I have a Vortex Viper PST and really love the glass. I can't comment on the Diamondback though sorry. I do own a Mueler APV 4.5-14 ($114 Amazon free shipping) and my daughter has the 2-7 APV. They are great "All Purpouse Scopes" with lifetime warranty. I've owned 5 Muellers. Great scopes, good prices and service.

Thanks for the info on Mueler scopes.
The Viper PST is a big step above the Diamondback. I will get a Viper PST in the future for my SPR AR as the glass is good, but probably only go with SFP since FFP is too much for me to justify my uses.
Although I like Vortex red dots, I decided to go with the Weaver after reading some online reviews. My 1st Weaver so hope I'm not disappointed, if it's not to my liking, Brownells has a good return policy and may look at the Mueler 2-7 illuminated reticle.
Haven't shot my 10/22 in 7-8 years
-
Yes my Viper is not on my 22s. I don't have that kind of money for glass on a 22.
If you or anyone wants to take a look through one of my Muellers, let me know.

NICE! What barrel is that?

It's a Tactical Solutions x-ring barrel, Hogue stock, Harris bipod, and a BSA scope. I'd like to eventually replace the trigger assy then it will be finished.

Kidd Supergrade Premium Rifle (custom build) with 2 barrels (interchangeable with 2 hex bolts)
See KIDD International website: http://www.coolguyguns.com/
Received from Kidd in early November, via the good people at OGC
10/22 22LR design but built by Kidd, not Ruger
20" SS .920" fluted bull barrel w/ muzzle brake
2-stage flat trigger: 1st stage - 3oz. 2nd stage - 3 oz.
Magpul stock gray X22
Nightforce 8-32 x 56mm Precision Benchrest scope in Larue LT120 QD mount
Accuracy 1st scope bubble level
Atlas bipod with Larue QD picatinny mount
Additional interchangeable barrel: 20" SS .920" bull barrel - no flutes, no muzzle brake, just put on a Harrell tuner on the muzzle to fool with barrel harmonics.
Update: March 2017: Received my MPOD bipod from Mystic Precision in March 2017. It's different than the Atlas bipod, since the MPOD is rated for F-class shooting.... and MPOD is stable.

Bushido,
Thanks for the kind words.

Recommend the Kidd 10/22 trigger assembly: 2-stage trigger 3oz./3oz.= 6oz. total, for benchrest shooting.
If going hunting, then the 2-stage trigger 8oz./8oz.= 1lb. total, or maybe even 1lb./1lb.

If you go Kokohead on weekends, late afternoon, you are welcome to try my 3oz./3oz. trigger.

Cool, thanks! I'll keep that in mind! :shaka:

Nice JMB! How do you like that barrel? I've read that is Kidd's only barrel that doesn't come with their MOA guarantee.

thnx Bushido👍🏼 Haven't had the chance to shoot it on paper yet. I've pretty much got it sighted in on the steel targets on the silhouette side. Hopefully I can get some groups soon.

Would love to hear how it shoots. Either way, very nice build for sure!!

Here's one of my integrally suppressed 10/22s. I port the barrels to make it run like an MP5SD so it actually turns super sonic ammo subsonic then the suppressor gets rid of the report. It is laughably quiet. ;)

Nice gun & video.
About the porting -- if the ammo runs subsonic due to the ports, why not use subsonic ammo in a non-ported barrel?
Velocity is what creates the sonic report, right? So, would using subsonic ammo in a non-ported barrel not have the same ballistics as supersonic in the ported one?
Just curious. Thanks.

So that I can use standard ammo. Subsonic ammo is always harder to find and more expensive. This way I can just use the standard ammo sold is 555 round packs for cheap. It's an excellent cheap fun gun to buy as well as to shoot now. Yes, the velocity of the bullet breaking the sound barrier creates the sonic report.

That was my guess. I know subsonic .22LR is not as available, but not sure what the prices are.
I saw a video on YT that demonstrated if you intend to shoot .22LR at long distances, it's best to use subsonic. Avoiding breaking the sound barrier stops the bullet from wobbling when it comes back down to subsonic speed. I forget the distances shown, but I believe it was at least 500 yds.

500 yards would be hard to do with subsonic 22lr I think. I know I have a HUGE drop with this gun when I'm shooting at just 120 yards with it. But I am no expert.

Subsonic ammo is the way to go if shooting long range with a 22lr. High Velocity, let's say 1250fps like Blazers, goes transonic ("wobbly range") before 100y. High velocity 22lr is also afffected by wind drift more than subsonic ammo contrary to belief. Most if not all match ammo is subsonic in the 1050fps range.

Really close to narrowing it down to the Ruger Precision Rimfire.
Reasoning:
-Looks "tacticool". Which means I won't spend just as much on modifying it (main reason)
-It comes in black
-Grouping expectations: Tangarine size at 50 yards. My expectations aren't rounds touching yet...
-Didn't want a 15/22 (already own an AR and same rifle is boring to me)
-Bday gift from the wife

The Ruger Precision Rimfire is a decent rifle. Like most rifles it has it's goods and bads. With good fundamentals and decent ammo, you can easily beat a tangerine at 50y. When you learn wind calls, you can beat that at 100.
