Go DOGE go.
TDS is so strong that even when billions are being uncovered as wasted, people are still against it. We need someone like Elon, richest man in the world can't be bribed. Same with Trump, he has enough money that you cannot bribe him, nor does he need ways to make millions via corrupt government things like other politicians.
DOGE found that FEMA sent 58 million to house illegals in CA. Which is illegal for FEMA To do.

It's amazing those against what Elon is doing who are regular people and not politicians. Imagine you paying the IRS every year for your taxes and only to find out that you weren't supposed to pay that amount. Then being mad at the person who found the overpayments. TDS should really be included as a mental health disorder.

I think DOGE may be going too far in some areas and there is some reason for concern about their methods but for the most part I think they are doing a good job at finding waste.
-
could you be any more vague?

The Left are liars. They always accuse the Right of doing that which they themselves are doing. The media helps perpetuate their lies.

I should have replied a different way to actually explain why I worded my comment the way I did, thats on me.
The reason I worded my statement that was is because there is so much unknown and so much bias in the reporting of what is know.
The liberal media and democrats is acting like Musk is Hitler and he is going to harvest all our personal data.
The right leaning media and Trump fanboys are acting like Musk is Jesus doing the lord's (Trump) work.
Figuring out where Musk is actually doing good and where he is actually going too far is quite difficult therefore I did not want to make any solid proclamations. It appears that there are good legitimate charitable expenditures that are being cut or paused which is or will result in the suffering of people in need which is why I said I think he is going too far in some areas but I also don't have a spreadsheet with line by line details of what is being cut and why so it would be jumping the gun for me to make a statement that is too specific and could be wrong.
If we can actually get a line by line report then by all means we can have an detailed nuanced discussion but all I see now is grandstanding by both sides and finding the truth in it all is not easy.

I was unaware the US government has a duty to become a charity organization for other countries.
I recall a story about a representative in the late 1800s visiting his constituents to talk about the things he wants to do to help the country and, of course, win their support in his upcoming reelection.
One wealthy rancher had a chance to speak to his representative alone. One of the bills the representative recently voted for was for flood recovery assistance for people in Ohio. The rancher explained: Nowhere in the Constitution does it say the federal government has the duty, nor the authority, to spend taxes collected from all the states on charitable programs. Churches, philanthropists and volunteers have been providing charitable services for the unfortunate forever. By the government stepping in, all those groups and individuals will expect the government to continue that service in every disaster or unfortunate situation where people can't do for themselves. As such, people will feel less of a need to donate or volunteer since the government is doing the job.
Taking my taxes to perform relief work is not charity -- it is theft. It's theft of our taxes to do something the Constitution does not empower the government to do.
There are no "legitimate charitable expenditures" when I as an individual tax payer and voter was never asked if I want my taxes to go to that charity. Now the government is giving my taxes to groups and relief efforts I may not agree with, and in so doing will demand even more taxes to do all the things they should be doing according to the Constitution.
Spare me the emotional arguments that we are our brothers' keepers or that but for the grace of God go I. It's not the government's role -- a role they not only stole from actual charities, but also discourages charities from continuing to do. Why pay taxes into a "charitable" government as well as donate to charities? I'd be paying double for the same charitable work, at least half of which supports a bloated, inefficient staff of paid employees rather than performing with the aid of unpaid volunteers.

Much, if not most, of the aid that the US provides other nations never reaches the intended recipients. It's used to enrich those in charge and the people managing the aid distribution.
I recall Puerto Rico's government leaders lying that the US was not providing them adequate aid. They gave press conferences and interviews blasting Trump while standing in front of pallets upon pallets of relief supplies -- supplies that spoiled because the government there was not distributing it to the hurricane victims. It's true roads were not passable in some areas, but that's because the government was not keeping the roads maintained prior to the disaster. I'm sure helicopters could have helped, but they didn't want help. They wanted to get Trump out of office.

All that is recent, public evidence that the government should not be in the business of providing charitable aid to other countries. We have people in NC still waiting for assistance many months later, yet Homeland Security has money to fund lodging and other expenses for illegals.
One way they get around this is saying Biden "appropriated" that money for DHS to house illegals. i thought Congress did the appropriating, and the President made those appropriations happen? Either way, it's an attempt to cloud the issue so the accusations against FEMA can be quashed. Having so many layers of bureaucracies means they can shuffle money into agency after agency until nobody is able to be held accountable.

North Carolina lawmakers flesh out details
of proposed $500M Helene relief package
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina House members advanced
Wednesday a Republican package to boost state recovery funding
after Hurricane Helene as committees fleshed out details on how
best to spend another $500 million to address the historic flooding.
The House's budget-writing committee voted for the latest spending
proposal, which would emphasize repairs for damaged homes, private
bridges and roads, assistance to farmers who lost crops and rebuilding
infrastructure adjacent used by small businesses.
GOP House leaders had unveiled a version last week, but several
amendments adjusted the measure in a special Helene recovery
committee on Tuesday. A House floor vote is expected next week, said
Rep. John Bell, the House rules chairman and co-chairman of the
recovery committee.
The package remains less than half of the $1.07 billion
that new Democratic Gov. Josh Stein sought in new recovery
spending earlier this month from legislators.

As I said, this is what happens when the state sits idle because they assume FEMA and federal aid will take care of disasters. It's called the bystander effect.
The bystander effect, or bystander apathy, is a social psychological
theory that states that individuals are less likely to offer help to a
victim in the presence of other people.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect
If the Feds didn't announce FEMA was providing aid, then the state and local groups would have no choice but to step in and help victims.
It comes down to who sees themselves as having responsibility to provide aid, and the degree of responsibility rests in whether they see anyone else who also has responsibility. If FEMA is responsible, then others will either offer to assist FEMA or avoid getting in FEMA's way. Now, months later, after FEMA has demonstrated they have no intention of providing adequate relief to NC, the state finally steps in to pass funding.
Helene's destruction, mostly from flooding, hit North Carolina September 27, 2024. That was nearly 5 months ago, and there are still people without passable roads and bridges, which makes repairing homes, electrical, water and sewer systems next to impossible.

Examples of DOGE issues being addressed:
The Congressional Budget Office recently found that Congress provided
$516 billion in appropriations this fiscal year to programs that had expired
under federal law.
The funds were associated with nearly 500 expired authorizations,
according to the CBO’s July report.
“Nearly two-thirds ($320 billion) of that $516 billion was provided for activities
whose authorizations expired more than a decade ago,” the report said.
According to CBO’s estimates, about half of the authorized appropriations
in the report expired at least 10 years ago, and the oldest expired in 1980.
In 2023, the amount of funding for expired authorizations was $519 billion.
The federal government made $247 billion worth of payment errors in fiscal
year 2022 and $236 billion in 2023, according to the Government
Accountability Office.
These errors, also known as improper payments, include overpayments or
payments that should not have been made, such as to someone who died
or someone no longer eligible for government programs.
Estimates show the federal government spent $2.7 trillion in payment errors
since 2003.
In 2022, the majority of improper payments spanned across 82 programs, a
majority coming from Medicaid ($81 billion) and Medicare ($47 billion).
“Improper payments and fraud are long-standing and significant problems in
the federal government,” said House testimony from GAO in September.
Federal government agencies are using just 12% of the space in their
headquarters buildings on average, according to the Public Buildings
Reform Board, which is an independent federal agency focused on
recommending the disposal of underutilized federal properties.
“Even before the pandemic, of the federal properties analyzed, federal
occupancy was low, particularly in Washington D.C.,” the board’s report
to Congress in March said.
These spaces must be furnished, which also costs money.
The House Oversight Committee spent $3.3 billion on furniture over
the past few years.
Apparently, to furnish office spaces left mostly empty under maximum
telework. Some agencies spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on
updating empty conference rooms
“Hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer funds are spent annually
just to maintain government-owned properties that should be sold off,”
said Chairman Rep. James Comer of the House Oversight Committee
in a hearing last year. “A billion dollars or more could be saved annually
by terminating unneeded federal office space leases. Unused federal
space was an issue prior to the pandemic — federal property management
has long been on GAO’s High-Risk List — but it’s now become one that
is simply too big — and too costly — to ignore.”
A penny may cost one cent for people using it to pay for goods and services,
but it costs triple that for the government to produce it.
For 19 years, the cost of producing pennies has surpassed the value of the
coin.
The same is true for nickels. Though valued at five cents, a nickel costs 11.5
cents for the government to produce one.
Producing these two coins last year cost the U.S. Mint $179 million.
The Government Accountability Office reports more than 5,300 open
recommendations for federal agencies to make the government work
better. In July, GAO estimated taxpayers could save between $106 billion
and $208 billion if the recommendations were implemented.
Apparently the Government Accountability Office has been working hard to do what DOGE is doing, but without the follow-through to actually hold anyone accountable or eliminate the fraud and waste. it's been happening for decades, too.

Elon said they corrected their mistake, but it was a mistake of no consequence. Why is the US subsidizing condoms for any other nation?
I'm sure there's a case to be made for reducing the spread of disease like HIV, but isn't that something their own nation needs to adopt and provide for their people? Again, the US is not a charity, but people seem to think every single problem in the world is our government's to solve.

EveryTown == MDA
EveryTown For Gun Safety was created as a way avoid some of the stigma associated with Mothers Demand Action.
MDA received some bad press over their ignorant ads and stupid positions on gun control. EveryTown tried to create a "less stupid" image while still fronting for the same gun control group.

Someone I went to high school with half a century ago texted me her son was among the probationary employees in federal government fired under Trump's (and Musk's) first cut at reducing government waste and overspending.
She was saying how this might be more reason to turn him against Trump. i told her i don't care. 200,000 is nothing compared to the millions who already hate him for no reason. He's in office and will never need anyone's vote ever again. He doesn't have to like it, but the government has become too massive to properly manage. Our taxes should not be used as a jobs program for bureaucrats. Military and government functions prescribed by the Constitution should be funded. Everything else needs to demonstrate it's needed by the people or be cut from the budget.
Her son should find a job that offers more than a biweekly paycheck. He should be doing something that offers value to society and a chance for personal growth and satisfaction.
Too many federal employees admit they collect a paycheck to do nothing. They sit around waiting to be told to do something. I took over a section at Langley AFB like that. The section chief spent all day on the web. He had one person able to do most of the computer system testing they were responsible for. I came in for 2 months, gave everyone a reason to come to work, and made them responsible for a part of the whole mission for the section. They actually gave me a little party after 2 months to show how much they appreciated my leadership. Even gave me a small gift card to Walden Books.
If my experience is happening all over the government, then we are doing the employees a favor letting them find more productive and meaningful income.
Sucks to be the one fired, but it sucks more that taxes and debt have to increase to pay them for nothing.
-
I wonder how many federal employees voted for Trump because they believed in making America Great again but didn't realize that part of that goal involves them losing their federal jobs.
My wife's sister (SIL) worked for the federal government. She is retired now. There was this program at her workplace that gave them opportunities to work in Japan. She was given that opportunity and it involved government paid moving expenses, COLA, and her spouse my wife's sister's husband, (I refuse to say BIL) gets to also go on the governments dime. Forgot to mention housing in Japan is also paid for by the government.
That's tax dollars from you and me.
In my opinion the DOGE should look into this program to see if this is a necessary function. My SIL often states that part of her job is to make sure ALL of the appropriated funds to her dept. is spent and justified PLUS recommend increase in funding to ensure the departments efficiencey and productivity, yada yada yada.....She also lamented how wasteful some of those appropriated funds ended up. But that was her job. In a nutshell actually. ::)
By the way, most spouses of those employees sent to Japan found work in Japan working at the exchanges, warehouses, or commissaries. What did my wife's sister's husband do?
Nothing.
Anyway, it was a 3 year tour. Extended another 3 years because wife's sister's husband wanted to stay longer. Joked my wife that her sister would do "anything" for her "son".

i could go on for hours talking about the number of stupid, wasteful and corrupt spending practices i've experienced or witnessed in government.
The worst problem is the baseline budgeting process. They use the budget for the previous fiscal year, add what they think they can spend the following year, then put together enough justifying reasons they need the money. As long as the % increase over the baseline doesn't attract scrutiny, the lower level budgets get rolled into the ones above. Once appropriated, the funding trickles back down in the proportions requested. This leads to a situation every August to get rid of any remaining monies. Otherwise they risk having their budget reduced. That's when everyone on staff gets new laptops, big screen TVs, and all those other big ticket, mission essential items they didn't seem to need the first 10 months of the year.

I look at it this way, the media and left will find any reason to blame Trumps admin for anything negative. Refer cure for cancer example.
Are there people who will be negatively impacted and who don't deserve to be fired, i'm sure there are/will be. Wil mistakes also happen with across the board firing, of course. Look the the recent nuclear something division. They fired 400 people, only to bring them back a few days later after they realized their mistake.
With the recent DLNR firings of noobs, the alternative is to fire the more XP people with pensions/retirement? Of the 2, the noobs are the lesser of 2 evils.
No one is blaming all the prior mis-management and slackers. Blame all the managers for adding stuff to buy at the end of the year so their budget isn't reduced later.
Also, it would take far to long to audit ever single employee to see if their position is needed.
Rip the bandaid off and rebuild is the way I look at it.
A person I know works DOD and transferred to another department. The new department isn't ready for her as they're behind for X reason. And her current department already planned her exit date. So now she was told to just go home and get paid her normal salary and wait till the new department is ready for her. They have no ETA and told her it could be a few days to months. Guess what, it's been 3 months already. She just came back from a 3 week vacay while on our tax dollars still paying her salary. She also said they had another transfer and the guy was cruising at home for 6 months until the department was ready for him. She's single and rents a big home, IDK what she does but I find it hard to believe that she would spend her monthly income on a place this big. Maybe she also gets COLA or some thing equal to it?
A guy I know was air traffic in X state. He is also part of the national guard in his home state. When he has drill, he gets sent to work at his home states ATC as there's a shortage, this way the feds pay for his airfare and lodging. So he doesn't have to pay out of pocket to go back for drill. IDK why he hasn't transferred to his new homes state Guard. Basically, his supervisor found a way for him to save from paying out of pocket for drill.

The guard and reserve have fewer billets than actie units. The billets are even fewer as you rise in the ranks. My first section chief in the Air Force was a captain when he got out and joined the Air Force Reserves. His billet was a Communications/Computer unit commander. Since there was no vacancy in Utah where he moved to, he was flown back to OK every month. But, instead of the standard 3 day training, he'd come back around Monday or Tuesday to give himself time to make it in case of delays, catch up on paperwork, and plan the training for his unit that weekend. It usually turned into a 6-7 day trip home on Uncle Sam's dime.
After a few years, a billet became vacant in Utah, and he transferred there. It's difficult to play musical chairs when there are so few chairs most times with people already in the one you need.

Legal duty? Not at all. Moral duty? Thats a matter of opinion.
Then there is the strategic question where we give money to a "charitable cause" in order to garner some benefit from another country which gives us a strategic advantage and that opens up a lot of doors in terms of what charitable causes we could undertake.
For charitable work within the country I would argue it is constitutional for the feds to tax and spend that tax to help a certain city or state after a natural disaster as that could easily be described as falling under the general welfare clause. For money to be spent on foreign charitable causes you can at least argue that the constitution doesn't say the government is allowed to do that.
Ultimately it is for the voters to decide by who they elect as those representatives then decide how to spend money. We could certainly go the route of zero foreign aid. Famine happening in Africa? Who cares. Genocide happening in Asia? Not our problem. I don't think most Americans are fine sitting back and letting that happen without any intervention.

We don't use that money for our own people who need it. Why would you think that money is making it to the foreign people and not into the pockets of their government leaders?

The government is not intended to be a charity. It never was and never will be. Treating the treasury like a never ending stream of cash for anything and everything is what has brought us to this point.
The government should not be a charity. I do not want my money wasted on a specific program that my representative votes for along Democrat party lines (the norm). I don't care how many members of Congress vote to spend that money.
When you give your own money to help others, that's called charity.

Would you rather have the government send a check/bank deposit to every voter
in the amount of $5,000, or
would you rather continue funding gender studies in Pakistan?

individuals, like yourself, have always had the option to send your check for thousands to Angelina Jolie and her charities. There's countless TV ads featuring starving children in Africa, with a toll-free number for making your donation with your credit card. So easy. have you? you really want the US Govt to be the middle man? Chuck Schumer deciding where to spend your donation? I sure-as-shit don't.

I could give two shits about other countries and their suffering when our own people are suffering. And I say that both as an American and a Kanaka 'Ōiwi.

Before we sent money blindly overseas, why don't these countries own leaders help their people more? I mean, I don't expect their presidents to live in a shithole shack, but I've seen the different African countries leaders homes and all the lavish things. I have seen 1 Easter Euro leader, I 4got what country, but it's a small one and he has a small Mr. Bean type car.
Mr. Beast on Youtube does things for other countries himself, instead of jsut throwing money because I'm sure he's aware of the fraud inolved as 1 reason. He builds wells for water in Africa for villages that have to walk 5 miles to get it. Why doesn't their own gov do this? Corruption, plain and simple. He even critizied health care insurance for not covering prosthetic legs in a recent video in the USA.

People enter politics for a myriad of reasons.
But every one of them claim they want to help and serve the people.
Then 4 years later they run for re-election and again the stupid people put them in office.
Not realizing that these politicians has increased their wealth 10 fold on a 5 figure salary.
While the people they serve get poorer and poorer and get taxed up their wazoo.
Just ask the Honolulu City Council members. They know.

HI DLNR complaining about being fired. I mean, they claim that they do a lot, but how much is really needed or cannot be done by the remaining workers? It's not like we have a big National Park like Yellow Stone that gets tons of visitors a year.
I see many people illegally fishing near walls Waikiki and DLNR is usually never around at night.

The left/media is saying that not all those millions of people are getting benefits. We know that 12 people who are 150 years old are and the checks have been getting cashed. This alone is millions in wasted money/fraud assuming that each of the 12 died at age 100, just to make the numbers easier to estimate.
Something about an old system that doesnt' update cuase it would cost about $3million to update the living status.
That's why I was asking how many of these millions are getting benefits. Even if it's only a fraction, use my example of the 12 above costing millions over 50 years of fraudulent check cashing.

I guess fed grants use the state as middlemen. Makes sense as each state knows it's own issues.

If I'm not mistaken, Fort Knox is the repository for a large portion of the United States' official gold reserves.
The Federal Reserve Bank of New York is where other countries deposit their gold for safe keeping as part of The Federal Reserve's "financial stability objectives"

There are unique markings on gold bars.
Purity
Year made
Serial number
Weight
So, if anyone is doing an audit according to the markings, it would be very difficult to play a shell game moving the same marked bars from site to site. Although the purity, year and weight could be the same in a batch of bars, the serial numbers would be unique.

Nice red herring.
If you want to be an isolationist nation, never intervening for humanitarian causes just say so but don't go accusing me of excusing waste simply because I said most Americans aren't willing to sit by and watch a genocide.
The government doesn't have to be intended to be a charity but citizens can, through their vote, choose to have government engage in charity. Unanimity is not required, there are always some citizens who don't want their government to spend their money wasted on whatever they think is a waste.
Also, some of that "waste" may have a charitable label to it but the true purpose is often buying strategic partnerships. Just something else to keep in mind.

Show me how not throwing our wealth at charitable programs for other nations in any way equates to "isolationism." Is it your belief that most of USAID funds go to charitable causes? do you also believe most of that money goes to the cause it was supposed to and not in the pockets of the leaders managing the money?
Is it your belief that our representative government in any way was designed to spend our wealth on charitable causes? I'd like to see that part of the Constitution.
Since Congress routinely votes along party lines, do you have any real evidence that our individual votes matter? Congress critters use the treasury on special interest and feel-good programs in order to be reelected. It has nothing to do with what the majority of constituents want. In Hawaii, as long as there's a (D) by the candidate's name, they're already 90% sure nothing else matters.

Every charity has a percent of money it receives which is lost to administrative costs. I do not know the average efficiency rate of USAID's programs, do you?
Not taking part in charitable causes around the globe is a step towards isolationism because we are removing ourselves from influence and action in other countries.
It doesn't matter whether our government was designed to spend money on charitable causes if the voters decide to elect politicians who choose to spend money on charitable causes. The constitution doesn't have to specifically allow it in order for it to be constitutional. Your last paragraph has nothing to do with my point. We have a legal system in place and regardless of whether you feel it adequately represents your voice, that legal system has approved money for charitable causes. We may not like it but it is what our democracy has created/allowed.

Since USAID is not an actual legally defined charity, Good luck finding out anything about how the money is spent.
The entire argument in this instance is the total lack of transparency. None of what they wasted our taxes on was publicly available until Trump was inaugurated and Musk started his dive into government spending.
i'm sure there are a few areas in which some small segment received needed assistance, but without transparency there is no way to know who or how many.
Keep defending the deep state's USAID fund. It just shows how contrary and argumentative you can be. You're happy with government fraud, waste, abuse and non-transparency. That's been established. Anything more you have to say on this is redundant.
-
So are you suggesting that we should use money to buy influence and actions of other countries?
It is not so much a question of should rather whether it is advantageous.
If we don't buy friendships China will, and they are. Do we want to be involved at some expense or sit that one out?

I was using charity in the colloquial sense to describe some of what USAID does, I did not mean it in the sense that they were a designated charity organization.
I am not objecting to a thorough inspection and cleaning of USAID. I am not for a complete elimination of the mission of USAID though.
How argumentative I can be? LOL, that's a good one coming from you. Again though I suggest avoiding strawman arguments unless of course you can quote me somewhere saying I fully supported all spending associated with USAID. I'll wait.

And yet you are wanting to evaluate them based on the same overhead analysis that designated charities are judged by. You want to compare USAID to other charities and then in the same breath argue they are different. That makes no sense.
I am not objecting to a thorough inspection and cleaning of USAID. I am not for a complete elimination of the mission of USAID though.
Based on what? Do you know of any USAID expenditures you'd keep? If so, what is the benefit to the US, and how is that benefit worth what we are paying for?

Funny how you post a straw argument to argue against my argument. Show me were I said you FULLY support ALL spending associated with USAID. I never said that, but you're pretending i did. Since you asked for a quote, how about a true quote which I posted -- not what you say I posted:

You are more than welcome to send part of your income voluntarily. I for one at this point am good with cutting all foreign aid until our budget and debt is at a manageable level again. All other nations can kick rocks until then.

Do this. We need transparency. Lots of corrupt people and organizations benefited when they don't deserve it. May these people's botos and belots burn forever from STD now and forever.
Amen.

you said "every charity" making it a noun
not an action...
You are mixing two different posts. One was talking about charity the verb, one was talking about charitable organizations and their efficiency

If there's nothing wrong in your mind about buying friendships, why not just send a check? Why use USAID as a cover? Why all the cloak and dagger? Maybe your comment about friendships is wrong, that's why.
What cloak and dagger?
Congress doesn't just cut a check every time they allocate money, there are offices that oversee and implement the spending. When a government agency or non-profit applies for a grant it goes though an administrative middleman, not straight to a congressman.
-
And yet you are wanting to evaluate them based on the same overhead analysis that designated charities are judged by. You want to compare USAID to other charities and then in the same breath argue they are different. That makes no sense.
Strawman, I didn't make that argument.
Based on what? Do you know of any USAID expenditures you'd keep? If so, what is the benefit to the US, and how is that benefit worth what we are paying for?
I would need to go line by line to say which programs I would keep and would cut.
Did you go line by line or are you suggesting we get rid of USAID without knowing the benefits of every program that would be cut?
Funny how you post a straw argument to argue against my argument. Show me were I said you FULLY support ALL spending associated with USAID. I never said that, but you're pretending i did. Since you asked for a quote, how about a true quote which I posted -- not what you say I posted:
"Keep defending the deep state's USAID fund. It just shows how contrary and argumentative you can be. You're happy with government fraud, waste, abuse and non-transparency. That's been established. Anything more you have to say on this is redundant."
Is English your second language? Do you not understand the inherent implication of your own words? If you say I am defending USAID and was happy with the waste, fraud, etc. that inherently implies I support it all.
-

How much time have you spent in federal government?
You have no idea what the funding processes actually look like.
Every high-level agency gets a discretionary pot of money to spend on anything they see as needed but not otherwise funded.
Once Congress and the President pass a budget, the money is allocated by law. Any middlemen are just accounting and finance workers who dispurse the funds to organizations whose leaders then allocate the funds down to subordinate organizations to fund activities.
In the case of USAID, the money is sent directly to that program. The people running it decide who gets how much.
You seem to have this misconception that there are people like Musk in the process making sure funding has a person or section that oversees the money to make sure it is spent responsibly. That perception is totally wrong. The only oversight is AFTER THE FACT, where someone who cares about the duty to be responsible sees what was spent, how it was spent, and why it was spent. Then they can question whether or not any expenditure was reasonable and justifiable. Most don't care. As long as the books balance, they have done their job.
If your naive belief was actually true, people providing oversight would have been able to account for the trillions that have gone missing over the years. So, please don't pretend to lecture on how appropriations and funding processes work.
The proof nobody is providing adult supervision is in the results.

Just because you (the public) doesn't see every detail of how they money is being spend doesn't mean there is no supervision of it all.
When a group or agency wants federal grant money they have to fill out applications and explain why they want to use the grant money and how that grant money will be used to achieve the goals of the grant. Congress doesn't have to allocate each dollar to a single specific agency rather it can allocate money to specific areas needing funding which will then be distributed by certain agencies, such as USAID, to achieve the goals set forth by congress.
Grant money is sometimes mismanaged, wasted, and stolen (I know a guy who got fired for abusing grant money) but it isn't the case that someone is just throwing out money without oversight or records.

Stupid argument. That's like saying "Just because you can't see ghosts doesn't mean they aren't real." We see the results of how our money is stolen and wasted. if you see footprints appearing in the sand and there's nobody that you can see making them, then you have evidence there are ghosts. Same with the results of how our money is spent without proper controls.

Wrong. Look up baseline budgeting and omnibus spending bills. Do you even grasp how large the federal budget is and how many pages one must
wade through to see where it all goes? We don't have a budget in place at the moment. it was due in October for FY2025. do you honestly believe there are tight controls on spending when a budget doesn't even exist?

you proved my point in your anecdote. You believe the money is managed as it is allocated. in fact, things like your friend abusing government grants wasn't discovered until after the fact. i doubt your friend ever paid a dime back to the government.
At USAID, Waste and Abuse Runs Deep
For decades, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has
been unaccountable to taxpayers as it funnels massive
sums of money to the ridiculous — and, in many cases, malicious —
pet projects of entrenched bureaucrats, with next-to-no oversight.
Here are only a few examples of the WASTE and ABUSE:
***
$1.5 million to “advance diversity equity and inclusion in Serbia’s workplaces and
business communities”
$70,000 for production of a “DEI musical” in Ireland
$2.5 million for electric vehicles for Vietnam
$47,000 for a “transgender opera” in Colombia
$32,000 for a “transgender comic book” in Peru
$2 million for sex changes and “LGBT activism” in Guatemala
$6 million to fund tourism in Egypt
Hundreds of thousands of dollars for a non-profit linked to designated terrorist
organizations — even AFTER an inspector general launched an investigation
Millions to EcoHealth Alliance — which was involved in research at the Wuhan lab
“Hundreds of thousands of meals that went to al Qaeda-affiliated fighters in Syria”
Funding to print “personalized” contraceptives birth control devices in developing
countries
Hundreds of millions of dollars to fund “irrigation canals, farming equipment, and
even fertilizer used to support the unprecedented poppy cultivation and heroin
production in Afghanistan,” benefiting the Taliban
***
The list literally goes on and on — and it has all been happening for decades.
Under President Trump, the waste, fraud, and abuse ENDS NOW.

it's not just my opinion that there's insufficient oversight and controls on spending. it's a verified FACT!!!

You miss my point here, I am saying that the public doesn't get to know about the ins and outs of every level of government but that doesn't mean there is no supervision or audit etc of expenditures. I think you will find a wide spectrum meaning I think you will find some money is well managed and spent in accordance to its original purpose and you will have other examples where money is terribly managed/spent.

Bullcrap. That's our money, and we have a right to know how our money is being spent. The only exception should be if the entire thing is classified. But then, that shouldn't be rolled in with a bunch of unclassified charitable programs, should it? If it's classified, it should be a separate spending allocation so national security is being protected.
You preach that we have the ability to vote out the people who misuse and abuse our treasure, and then argue that the government can merely hide the "ins and outs" of the money they spend. Seems like a Catch 22.
He was not my friend. That changes nothing i said.

If even one program is not being managed as allocated, then all programs can potentially become the same. Problems like this are not isolated. The temptation to misuse funds for personal reasons or embezzle the money under a corrupt and incompetent administration is too risky to simply trust the people placed in charge. Without transparency, they are able to get away with billions before anyone does an audit.

Not sure how this is related to DOGE other than both Tesla and DOGE are headed by Musk.

Right. There's a theoretical link between DOGE and ACT BLUE: USAID.
The theory is some of the USAID monies were sent to NGOs (Non-Government Organizations, typically non-profits) in the form of government grants, and some of that money found its way into the campaign coffers of Democrats through ACT BLUE.
It's basically a money laundering process using our taxes to elect Democrats.
We have to wait for the new DOJ to send raid teams out to gather evidence before it's destroyed.
-
I pass a NGO on the way to work for the past 2 years. It's a free law service. I've never seen anyone in the offfice and the doors are always locked. Granted, I don't pass buy on the weekends or after 5pm, so maybe they open after hours?
Last week, I saw movers moving furniture out. I'm guessing their funding was cut, so they had to vacate.
My friend in Vegas says at 1 of the malls, theres a medicare office in 1 of the spots. He always sees an grandpa age guy working the desk, but no one is ever in there but him. That spot is gone now.
I do know of NGO's who do use the funds to do HI specific programs like wildlife stuff. And they're concerned about funding. 1 was even told that they were the last ones to get paid by the fed grant.
I know of 1 other NGO taht the "owner" doesn't work another job. So the NGO is her full time gig. I highly doubt she's putting in 40hrs a week. She host 1 event a month at the most. Events do take lots of planning, but it seems like a sweet paycheck.

More and more Tesla's being damaged by crazy liberals.
1st elon made EV's cool, the thing that climate change hoax activist wanted was more to drive EV"s. Then they said they don't like his EV's cause he made too much money (capitalism). I guess 1 is supposed to break even when selling the most popular EV's.
Now they're calling him a Nazi and damaging his cars and setting up protest outside of his stores.
This further shows that one should never give in to the peer pressure from the left. They forever move goal post and you won't win.
I wonder if it's possible for these people to be charged for domestic terrorism.
-
The left has lost it's way. biden made it worse and nobody can fix it.
The right has also meandered off course. But President Trump will fix that.
President Trump will hold to his promises and leave the left alone while they inevitably destroy themselves.
-
On SSHOT, there is a vid of a guy spitting on a Tesla. The people tracked him down and his name is Tim Longbrake. He got a civilian award with the local Marine Corps Family Team Building as he's on their IG page.
Guess he reached out to someone who knows the owner and he said that he lost his job due to DOGE and Musk, and that's why he spit on the Tesla. He also offered to pay for a car wash.
Maybe he thinks that his spit would hurt Elon?

Initial DOGE report on unemployement insurance:
Since 2020
24,000 people over 115 years old claimed $54 million in benefits
28,000 people ages 1-5 claimed $254 million benefits
9700 people with future birth dates 15 years in the future have claimed $69 million in benefits
1 person with birthday 2154 claimed $41K in beneifts.
I'm not 100% sure how UI works, but is "benefits" mean payments? Or could that also mean other services like health care that don't deal with cash?
-
THey stopped social security for some people and the left is upset and called DOGE liars.
DOGE"s reply, These 12 are over 150 years old.
The left is still upset cause "you said you won't stop SS payments".

Fwiw, I retired and get social security. My thing came in yesterday. Now I can buy beer and bullets. 🤣🤣🤣

Benefits are anything the government pays either to you or on your behalf.
Those payments may go directly to the company providing the care as a disbursement for a claim they filed.
Worker's Comp insurance is actually a policy the employer is supposed to maintain and pay premiums for. With UI, the tax payers are on the hook for that.
Worker's Comp insurance is one of the easiest and most common scams around. My brother takes fast food restaurants and fixes the problems that are causing them to not be profitable. One way is to carefully screen new employees who are hired to replace to useless ones he fires. Too many times, someone will take a job just long enough to qualify for worker's comp or unemployment, then do something like fake an injury on the job or force the store to fire them. Then they file for benefits and play video games until the money runs out. Then they do it all over again. Looking into their work history and actually calling former employers can identify these scammers.
It was telling when watching The People's Court, and the judge would ask the plaintiff bringing the lawsuit, "What do you do for a living?" A huge percentage replied, "I'm on disability." That answer set the tone for the judge in deciding if the person filing the lawsuit is a scammer.
-
That's why I was asking. From what I know, UI only pays benefits in the form of money to the unemployed person making the claim. They do not pay to provide medical for them. That's what somethign like COBRA would be for, which the unemployed individual has to pay for directly.
Compare this to workers comp (in HI). They will give you money (like UI would), up to 2/3's of your weekly wage and pay for medical bills/drugs (UI won't do this). Then even go a step further if need be to retrain you to do a different occupation due to your injury preventing you form coming back to work (UI won't do this).
What I was trying to find out is can a 115 year old get other UI benefits besides "cash", like carehome payments or something.
-

You have the Unemployment benefits right, but not Worker's comp.
Worker's comp pays for both loss of income as well as medical, but only if the injury or medical condition was work-related.
The short answer is, state benefits are limited to a percentage of your regular pay, but all necessary surgeries, treatments, physical therapy, medical aids (braces or canes), and medications are paid for you 100%. You don't even have to pay your regular co-pays on office visits or prescriptions. All my visits were with Occupational Medicine and Physical Therapy.
if you have supplemental disability insurance at work or from an outside source like AFLAC, you can get as much as 100% of your income covered by WC payments -- at least for a certain amount of time.
*** LONG STORY ALERT ***
I needed carpal tunnel surgery on both my wrists and filed worker's comp for the on-the-job repetitive stress injury.
Luckily, I was paying for supplemental insurance. I received 100% of my salary for 12 weeks (3 months) after which it was to drop tp 80%. I went back to work the week it was supposed to be reduced.
Initially, Kaiser did a nerve conductivity test to verify the median nerve was indeed causing carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms.
I went to physical therapy before the surgeries where they tested my hands for strength and so on, and fitted me with custom rigid wrist braces mainly for sleeping as that's when the pain and numbness occurred. After the surgery, they gave me softer wrist braces to wear as the incisions healed.
Since they didn't want to leave me without one hand to use, they operated on one hand, let it heal a few weeks so i could use it, then operated on the second one. After a month of healing, I went to PT to regain strength in my hand. The process of doing one then the other took about 3 months.
The entire time, i was prescribed narcotics for post-operative pain.
When the doctor i first went to asked what i did for a living (computer professional), she sent me straight to Kaiser's Occupational Medicine Clinic where they filed my Worker's Comp claim.
In the end, I was lucky to have sought treatment early before the nerves were permanently damaged. After the surgeries and PT were complete, i was sent to an outside doctor for final evaluation. My had strength was actually measuring better than before the surgery, so all the weekly PT and squeezing medical-grade PlayDoh everyday worked for me.
The state sent me a check for $750 to settle the case -- payment for the scars on my wrists from surgery. There was no measurable loss of function. The only noticeable longterm issue is i tend to drop things -- a lot. My hands don't automatically sense how much pressure to apply when holding or carrying something, and my hand just drops whatever it is. I have to consciously think about what's in my hands so my brain tells them to hold on. It's not all the time, but it's really annoying when it happens.
So, depending on the situation, WC takes pretty good care of you for a few months after a job-related injury. Beyond that, payments start to decrease. If you're having longterm issues, then you'd fall more under Social Security and Medicaid.
-
4got to mention this, I thought Elon was only staying on till this month?
i think he'll be leaving soon, but DOGE will still be doing the work he started. I imagine he'll be available for consulting if they need him, but he's gotten the ball rolling pretty well.

My point is that the findings better be accurate or trust will be eroded. If Musk goes around cutting billions of dollars, we all celebrate, and then most of it gets put right back because they weren't good cuts then it looks like it was just political. There was already the mistake of $8 million savings being reported as $8 billion but Musk admitted to the mistake and that kind of mistake is excusable once in a while. When too many of the sensational claims about government waste Musk and his team rooted out turn out to be false then he is just feeding us what we want to hear instead of actually solving the problem. A number of Musk's claims have already been shown inaccurate or misleading so I view reports of him having found more money to save with a bit of skepticism.

And here comes the mud throwing. Is there a lot of mud under the bridge for you to take from?
Illustrating how irrelevant and useless your previous post is.
Unless you have some basis to believe the DOGE reports in question are incorrect then you're just posting for no good reason.
And what are you implying by saying "for Musk's sake?" What do you think the consequences would be for Elon if they happen to contain errors?

Didn't know integrity and accuracy were irrelevant to you. I guess that explains a lot.
Yes, there are a number of examples to believe DOGE reports are incorrect.
What are the implications? Loss of trust not to mention the irony of the office thats supposed to root out waste and fraud being wasteful and fraudulent.

Why are you questioning the integrity and accuracy without anything to base it on? One or two previous reports having errors WHICH WERE ADMITTED TO AND CORRECTED does not mean all future reports will have errors.
Remember, Musk's team is acquiring the data from the people managing the programs and agencies being audited. It's not a stretch to believe an agency unable to account for billions in allocated funds might not have perfect bookkeeping.
One thing worse than releasing an inaccurate report is having the report's accuracy questioned before anyone ever reads it. Musk doesn't have to be perfect. He's being transparent. Any errors can be quickly identified and corrected with more eyes on it.
Just stop.

One would say that correcting an error shows integrity. Many don't correct errors or admit when they're made. #integrity

It isn't just a few simple mistakes though. We were promised billions in savings and that number has been decreasing significantly, some cuts are arguably not going to work which meant a bunch of time and money spent just to keep what was cut. The mess that has been created is making it more difficult to justify the good cuts that are actually being made and suggesting it is all a few typo mistakes is not an honest representation of what is going on. FYI I supported Musk and the whole DOGE mission from the beginning, I am just disappointed how poorly it is turning out.

It's unfortunate, but collateral damage. To audit every org and department would take well past the term of Trump and the next POTUS may cease all actions. But instead, people should be asking why for generations has this type of waste even been allowed.

Hello Not-a-doc
My face is rotting away and about to kill me, so I need a root canal.
It's got to be painless though. Not the slightest discomfort. Otherwise don't bother.

i have a conspiracy theory that legislators, being lawyers mostly, understand the kind of legal maneuvering that helps their causes.
One way would be to make the government so complicated, redundant and massive that it looks like a giant game of Jinga. Trying to remove one piece jeopardizes many more. So getting rid of just one unnecessary administrative function becomes so complicated and painful, it's easiest to just do nothing.
But, that's just crazy talk, huh?

THey stopped social security for some people and the left is upset and called DOGE liars.
DOGE"s reply, These 12 are over 150 years old.
The left is still upset cause "you said you won't stop SS payments".
It is human nature for people to try to use other's words in their favor, but the problem is they don't have much of a case, when you are defending NOT auditing the government. The same people that were ok with sending BILLIONS to Ukraine, even after Zelensky said their is no record of where the money goes, and he would not submit to any audit, but are complaining that the war didn't end on day 1 of the Trump presidency. We can assumer billions in saving just because we are not sending any more to Ukraine.

Statement made by musk about the gov workers deleting a terabyte of data. But his reply was something like they don't know how data works and we've recovered it.
Someone needs to take notes from the Clintons and have a fire in their "guest" house.

I would have preferred Trump have DOGE take their time and greatly reduce the collateral damage. Maybe set a time frame of 2 years instead of 3 months for example. You would have more responsible cuts, better efficiency, and less ammo for them to use against Trump.

Even at 2 years, I think that you would still complain.
I repeat this again, "where have you been since 2016?". The left uses anything they can for "ammo".

We still have all that debt to retire first from 20 years of military spending in the Middle East. Estimates are we borrowed $8 trillion over those 20 years to fund the war effort. None of that was ever programmed into the annual budgets -- budgets that routinely (always?) use deficit spending on their own to fund the government before figuring in those wars.
The U.S. national debt grew to a record $34 trillion by the end of 2023,
and it ballooned to nearly $35 trillion by the middle of 2024.

I wouldn't have much to complain about if the cuts had been made carefully.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. I think it was either a false promise or an idea that was never thought through.
Could definitely use that to buy a few toys though!

Hahahahhaha.

Colbert show cancelled now Howard Stern, makes me wonder if our tax dollars were used to fund these failing shows. And in return, they would talk bad about Trump.

Even if specific media influencers like Colbert and Stern didn't directly receive funding from government, the NGOs that did could have been funneling money to those shows and their networks while the influencers still looked clean.
