Political Discussion / Re: Marine Corps Ball Cancelled
« on: November 02, 2023, 09:50:08 PM »
That wasn't a ball cancellation Corps wide.  That was one specifically for USMC CentCom.  Ball are organized at a unit level--hell sometimes they aren't even celebrated on November 10th.

There's already more guns than people in Hawaii. If it was a problem, we would have already known by now.

I remember growing up and the only homeless guy for miles was and old Hawaiian man we called Rambo. Not because he was crazy like the character but because he wore the old camo bottoms and had long hair. He didn't bother anyone and just hung out at the bust stop by Gulick and N King.  Fast forward to now and you can't even go one fucking block without seeing one crazy ass homeless person, either drug addled or with all kind sores over their damn body.

They get free medical when they come here. How do I know? Because I process these parasites for their medical.  Some of them are here to get some medical and then they slink away back to Samoa, Micronesia, or Mainland when they're all done. Rinse repeat when the problem comes back.

This problem isn't going away as long as we give out handouts like candy.

Hey Waverider. You might get scolding from one of the mods for posting a copyrighted article like I did in the past.

Anyone can access that site for free for 7 days.  I just saved everyone the profess of entering their email.  I doubt i’ll even visit that newsite ever again, unless this happens again.

This didn’t even make the news in the more mainstream venues.

This is amazing. The judge completely ignored the permit requirement and just outright dismissed it.

The article:

A Hilo judge on Monday dismissed three firearms-related charges against a 27-year-old Kurtistown man on the grounds that they violated his right to carry a firearm for self-defense under the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

In what is believed to be a precedent in East Hawaii courts, Hilo Circuit Judge Peter Kubota dismissed charges of carrying a revolver, carrying a loaded firearm on a public roadway, and illegally carrying ammunition against Dallys Mello.

The revolver and loaded firearm charges are Class B felonies carrying a potential of 10 years imprisonment. The ammunition charge is a misdemeanor.

“He was in fear of his life. That’s the reason he had the firearm,” Mello’s attorney, Deputy Public Defender Keith Shigetomi, said Thursday. “He didn’t use it in any illegal or improper manner. It was in his backpack. And the Supreme Court said he had the right to possess a firearm for self-defense purposes outside the home. And therefore, the case had to be dismissed.”

Shigetomi added that the prosecution “couldn’t show that the statutes didn’t violate the Second Amendment.”

Kubota dismissed the charges with prejudice, which means the state can’t refile them, although it can choose to appeal the ruling.

Mello, who has no prior criminal record, still faces a misdemeanor charge of second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer stemming from the same incident in September that resulted in the dismissed firearms charges.

According to court documents filed by police, Mello was arrested on Sept. 17 at Pikake and Orchid streets in Fern Acres subdivision on suspicion of second-degree terroristic threatening.

Mello’s girlfriend allegedly reported to police that he had sent her a text message threatening to kill her dogs and her parent’s dogs. The 24-year-old woman told police she believed Mello to be in possession of her Smith and Wesson .22 magnum revolver.

The woman reportedly told police she had given Mello permission in the past to carry the handgun, and that he usually had it in his backpack while riding his motorcycle.

Police accused Mello of resisting arrest. According to documents, during a struggle, Mello and two Puna patrol officers, Spencer Thomas and Cody Correia, stumbled to the pavement. Police allege that while they were down, Mello kneed Correia to the head, resulting in the assault charge.

Officers obtained a search warrant and found a loaded .22 caliber Ruger revolver and two boxes of ammunition in his backpack.

Prosecutors didn’t file a terroristic threatening charge.

In his motion to dismiss the firearms charges, Shigetomi cited the 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision in the case of New York State Rifle Association v. Bruen.

Shigetomi wrote in his motion seeking dismissal of the charges “the Supreme Court clarified that the right to ‘bear’ and ‘carry’ a handgun for self-defense purposes extends beyond the home.”

“The Supreme Court further held ‘nothing in the Second Amendment text draws a home/public distinction with the respect to the right to keep and bear arms,’” Shigetomi wrote.

Deputy Prosecutor Kimberly Angay argued in her opposing motion that Mello “did not acquire a license to carry a concealed or unconcealed firearm.”

She noted that after the Supreme Court decision, the Hawaii County Police Department — which had granted only six carry permits in the previous 21 years — “changed its permitting process to comply (with Bruen) and requires that applicants complete the application (and) pass and submit a firearms proficiency test,” among other requirements.

Angay argued that without the carry permit, Mello was subject to state laws that “require unloaded firearms and ammunition to be carried in an enclosed container” of rigid construction, such as a commercially manufactured gun case — and only in transit between certain defined, limited locations.

County Prosecutor Kelden Waltjen on Thursday said he “takes firearms cases seriously.”

“Unlicensed and unregulated persons in possession of firearms presents a public safety concern, especially when it involves an alleged threat of violence,” Waltjen said.

Strategies and Tactics / Re: Muscle Memory Can Be Good or Bad
« on: January 29, 2023, 10:19:28 PM »
So I witnessed during a simulator here that someone was doing the check behind you thing. The one where you turn around and check left behind and then check right side behind.

Scene:

A store you enter was being robbed and workers were shot dead (1 dead body in the open). You are standing about 8 feet from where you entered and see 1 dead body.  1 individual with a gun was coming out from the back with items in his hand and wearing a mask.  He then shouts to his friend to come out to the front too. He then points his gun at you.

The issue with this habit if it's muscle memory is the simulator had a 2nd bad guy come out .  Now normally this could not be helped or known, but prior to the individual shooting the 1st bad guy, the 1st bad guy was calling for his friend to come to the front "hey man lets go" while looking behind him (talking in the direction of bad guy 2).  The person (good guy) doing the simulation didn't hear bad guy 1 call out to his friend.  But shortly after shooting bad guy 1, he did the scan behind thing. As he turned, bad guy 2 showed up and shot him.

Training points:

John Lovell (Warrior Poet) mentions that most people who do the scan thing do it so quickly that there is no way 1 could see or notice a 2nd threat. So he has a vid on how long it takes him to do the scan behind. But prior to scanning behind, he takes the same amount of time to scan the front to make sure there are no other threats.

Knockout Lights (Mike) had a story of a SWAT guy shooting a bad guy in a grocery store. He had tunnel vision. He swore he fired of a few rounds and the bad guy didn't drop. So he though he had a empty mag. So he dropped the mag to reload a fresh one. By the time he got the rifle back up, the bad guy was down.

I've seen vids here of classes being held and people scanning very quickly and witnessed it in skill builders on occasion. IDK if they would be able to see anything as John mentions in the vid above.

Sounds like a person trained in USMC Pistol Table 1. The action is called "search and assist". You're not doing that action without a purpose--as it would look when you're on the range firing line. It's done while you aren't actively engaging a threat, and are looking for another to engage.  Nobody is training to double tap a target then scan the area while the target is still active--that makes no sense.

Having a second threat appear near or at a previous threat, like that guy at the sim, and being shot by them is just the totality of the circumstance.  After all incoming fire in a two-way range can come from more than one direction.

General Discussion / Re: Private outdoor shooting range

Pu'uloa is not closed. It is just closed to the public. There are a lot of hoops to jump through to shoot there.

Alright, let me be more clear: are they any places open to the public, who can't be bothered to jump any more hoops other than permission from the range owner?

There was a private shooting range at Tradewinds Ranch. We went a couple of times. Short range about 40yds. It was a lot of fun, they had tons of steel targets. We shot pistols and rifles. Everyone brought their own firearms and ammo and we had a blast! Literally! Then towards the end we shot clays. Dont know if they still got it. Yelp says they closed down...

Sorry for the necro, but this is even more relevant now that Kokohead and Puuloa range are closed.  Tradewinds is open and has been holding CCW quals. There's another one at Waianae, but I don't think I'm privy to share the exact place for that one.

Are there any other private ranges on Oahu who are open to accommodate CCW quals or just to plink? The indoor ranges nearby are either too expensive or too far.

Just have all PD put a NYC PD trigger on, if they can’t stop ND’ing.

Did you dip the whole thing in CLP? The only way you get that stuff that deep in the striker, enough to cause it to fail, is if you went overboard on it.

It’s suppose to be bone dry in there.

Voting this time was utter bull. Only two polling places on the island?! The polling place last time, before the plandemic, was at a nearby school.

I refuse to vote via mail. Way too many chances for some nonsense.

I’m too old for drama of any kind, especially from brand fanboys. Unless i see some definitive and rational explanation then I see no reason why to discontinue using the pistol.

If you’re going with users discretion and stop using the firearm, do so knowing that you’re making a choice based off either heresay or the crap typical fanboys sling at each other.

Thanks for the vid. "during dry fire, the delay was noticeable" (when he just bought the gun and didn't go to shoot it yet).

I just tried it on mine, at the wall, not yet broken. Shook it hard enough to break and what do you know…

Have yet to have mine not engage the striker immediately after i pull the trigger. I’m guessing that’s their claim.

Not really related, but came across another video where a P365XL (I think, or one of the other Sig Sauer carry guns) wouldn't fire when trigger pulled, but after when user shook it.

https://youtu.be/ei90kVQhjm8?t=145

Hard to tell if he's breaking the wall while shaking, or wall is broken then it fires after shaking.

It's far different from the Taurus 24/7 video firing while shaken, with no trigger pressed.

I paid for my marriage license in Nevada, Hawaii and all states recognizes it as valid.
I passed and was awarded my motorcycle license in WA state- Hawaii recognizes it as do all states.
I was tested and earned my first drivers license in CA- all states recognize it.
I now have one of those Yellow star Hawaii drivers License, meaning "they" know who I am,
with a paper trail a mile long,  recognized and valid everywhere.
But a CCW License isn't recognized and valid in  all states.
Why is that?
 :wtf:

This is a politicized issue, and like all other politicized issues it's not about facts; it's not about right or wrong, moral or immoral--it's about their side and your side.

There is only a win for their side or a loss.  Again, there is no right or wrong. There is only what makes their side look good, or win.

Edit: I don't understand most of you. You think your opposition intends to play fair?
