OK, there's something  on the city and county Dept of Parks and Rec page:  https://www.honolulu.gov/parks

(Quote)
May 27 - Following Mayor Caldwell's Restore Honolulu 3.0 Order, the Koko Head Tramway reopened the afternoon of Tuesday, May 27. City off-leash dog parks and skateparks are scheduled to reopen on Friday, May 29. On June 5, the City will be re-opening the Koko Head Shooting Complex, archery range, People’s Open Markets (POM), and swimming pools for lap swimming only. The Honolulu Zoo is also targeting a June 5 re-opening. A re-opening date for the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve has yet to be determined.

With restrictions lifted on outdoor gatherings of 10 people or less (regardless of household), park activities that do not require a permit will be allowed during normal park hours with physical distancing of six feet or more being observed. Sports league activities are not currently allowed, though the City is pursuing a path forward to allow organized activities of this nature to resume at City parks.City gymnasiums, campgrounds, playgrounds, and other indoor and outdoor City park facilities not already reopened (such as stand-alone comfort stations and Community gardens which were previously reopened) remain closed at this time.

People doing whatever they like already. Gyms already opening, somewhat not the DL. Operations opening up and posting on SM, all while also commenting on others who aren’t following guidelines. Lots of hypocrisy all around.

Anyways, looking forward to hitting the range again mid June. Hopefully no rebound that shuts things down again.

Thanks, but the City and County of Honolulu operates Koko Head. The governor can authorize reopening, which he has done, but it's up to the city when and how, because it provides the staff and owns the range. Good to hear the staff says June 5. Thanks, aletheuo137. Bu still haven't heard official word from the mayor's office or DPR.

Has anyone actually seen "the mayor's press release" announcing Koko Head reopening? Haven't found anything like it on honolulu.gov, oneoahu.org or the Department of Parks and Recreation website. And there's nothing about Koko Head in the updated emergency order Caldwell issued  today

General Discussion / Re: Honolulu PD permit/reg. by appointment only
« on: March 20, 2020, 01:28:07 PM »

Thanks, Tim. Sure hope this phone reservation thing is only temporary.

Then again, the in-person walk-up system ain't perfect. Back in in early 2013, we got there one morning about 0530. More than 20 people were already in line. This was when all firearms transactions were handled at the counter on the Ewa side of the first floor. By the time we finished about 1000, the line went all the way around the corner to Hotel Street. And that was despite the addition of cops who previously worked in the firearms section and were pulled back in to help.

What about handguns? Do we need to make an appointment for each of the three steps? 1. Apply for permit to acquire. 2. Pick up permit to acquire. 3. Register gun.
Phone number no work. Time to re-read Catch-22

General Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Gun Panic Buying?

People were lined up at Young Guns yesterday. because they're limiting the number of people inside the store to allow for social distancing.

Mahalo to the Hawaii Historic Arms Association for going ahead with last weekend's gun show. Otherwise, even more people would be desperately seeking guns and ammo.

Condolences to owners of new guns who were hoping to break or zero them in at Koko Head. I share your pain.

Instead of phone reservations, HPD's firearms section  could use one of the online reservation systems like  Open Table or Yelp. It's not like anyone can book a restaurant table now.

General Discussion / Is Koko Head still keeping normal hours?
« on: March 17, 2020, 07:59:39 AM »
Any word on whether Koko Head Shooting Complex has been affected by the covid-19 cutbacks in  city operations? If the rain clears, might want to have a range session this week.

Edit:

Disregard. Just saw the thread further down the page about outdoor facilities not being affected.

+1 for Walther PPQ. M2 version has conventional mag release button. Earlier model has euro-style lever.

Or, if he can handle real steel, don't forget a Model 1911 in 9mm. Heavier, fewer rounds, but some folks really prefer the way it fits their hand.

There's already a thread on this in General Topics, Legal and activism, Update Young v. State of Hawaii:

What does it all mean? I'm no lawyer. But I would like to buy George K. Young Jr. a beer

Nikon P22  2-7x, Sightron 3-9x32 RF are what I use for 50-yd target shooting. You want something for plinking on the silhouette range. Either of those works fine without busting the bank. For my 10/22 takedown w/ Magpul stock, I use a UTG 3-9x Bugbuster. Small enough to fit in the front  compartment of the shoulder bag I use to carry the gun, mags and ammo.

General Discussion / Re: How's the line at HPD?
« on: March 23, 2018, 10:08:00 AM »
Went to register a gun after morning rush hour.  Five people in line ahead of me.  Not bad for a Friday after the gun show. Two fell out of line when they realized that  permit pickup was in the office on the other side of the lobby.
by the snack shop. Can't blame them. Last time I went to get a permit there, the cop was annoyed because I didn't see the tiny sign that said pickups on that particular day  were at the main Firearms Unit counter.  Today it took 22 minutes from the time I got in line until I walked out, registration pau. Couple new guys behind the window since last time I was there, six months ago. Efficient enough.  :shaka:

A few years ago, I bought a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 rifle scope from Midway. After two brief range outings, the windage knob quit working.  Called around and was advised by a terse CS rep at Carl Zeiss Sport Optic to mail it to them. . I did, and heard nothing for  many weeks. After I emailed requesting an update, someone finally replied,, blaming "delays with the factory" and offering  a Zeiss Terra 3-9x42 replacement. Their email did not mention that the Terra was a  cheaper substitute  for the Conquest line.  By that time, I figured I better  cut my losses, so agreed to take the replacement.. I finally got it,  six months after I mailed the original one to them and only after minimal service from their CS department.  No more Zeiss for me.;
