Off Topic / Re: Have you gotten the covid vaccine?
« on: April 21, 2021, 11:08:43 AM »
Vaccines are generally safe and it looks like the covid one is no exception.   They do not cause autism. That's fakenews.  Hope you don't catch covid and live/die in regret.  Or have someone you care about suffer from the consequences.

Follow the money.  It’s experimental. YOU are part of an experiment.

This is the first of many. People are livestock and there is much money to be made. People are too damn lazy to eat right, exercise, and strive for a healthy lifestyle .

Math doesn’t lie. 99.7% survival rate. And that’s taking into account “ALL” the covid deaths.

I’m not anti-vaccine but for the life of me don’t understand why people rush to get something that was rushed to market (not FDA approved, don’t trust the FDA anyway so this is even worse), for something that has a 99.7% survival rate.

Stay home and trust a bunch of items totaling less than $10 will save you until we can jab you.

Absolutely nothing about striving for metabolic health.

Also, 45 has been highlighting vax’s aren’t safe for years, suspects they are linked to autism but now he is pushing vaccines as safe.

I’m gonna sit this one out. And when I say sit this one out, I’ll wait at least 5-10 years.

Been catching up on Halloween movies.  I think it's been a really long time since I watched the 20 year anniversary film, Halloween H20.

So many Easter Eggs in this movie.  It's really fun rewatching it.  Not only for the film itself, but the cast, too.  Some of the "kids" have grown up into Hollywood stars themselves.

Jamie Leigh Curtis is of course in the role of Laurie Strode (aka Keri Tate), Michael Myers' sister.

Jamie's real life mother, Janet Leigh, was a "Scream Queen" herself in the movie Psycho.  In H20, she played a character named "Norma" (throwback to Norman Bates, of course), and exits her last scene in the film driving the 1957 Ford she drove in Psycho, complete with the same license plate number.

The spoof movie, Scream, is playing on a TV, which took much of its "Rules for Slasher Films" from Halloween.

Some things are just better after 22 years (No, not talking about OmniGun! ).

The "Made you jump!" effects and devices are almost as good as the original Halloween.

The first Halloween, at the end when Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasance) emptied his revolver in MM and MM goes over the balcony, the said they were debating two reactions to making the movie. The first was when Sam ran to the balcony, only to see MM body gone (meaning he was still alive), he was to have a look of shock. The second reaction, which made it to the film, was more of “I knew he’d still be alive, wonder where he went....”. That reaction was much creepier to me.

Sadly there’s a lot of ill-informed (to put it nicely) people in this world. It’s the reason why we are where we are

He did interrupt a lot, but I saw Wallace interrupting Trump and not Biden.

Also, bring up racism with trump but not BLM with Biden?

In the words of Biden, C’mon man!

Now that most schools are still on lockdown, they are forced to hold remote classes via Zoom or services like these Learning Pod companies.

Public school teachers have actually told students and parents that they are not allowed to let the parents monitor what the kids are doing online in these classes.

 :wtf:

What are they afraid the parents are going to see?  Very suspicious.  When my kids started elementary school, we were encouraged as parents to visit the classrooms whenever we wished.

Sounds like a teacher's union "protection" mechanism so teachers can't be called out for incompetence or pushing an ideology the parents don't follow/like.

Yup. Super suspicious.

My middle is in private school, because he missed that BS cutoff date by two days. After that Off to the charter school, which is 99% home school anyway.

DOE and teacher’s unions don’t give a rip and most colleges these days, They churn out crap these days. I had to explain to an engineer, an actual gainfully employed engineer, why there is a finance charge on loans. Mind blown.

This is a great topic to bring attention to.

I’ve heard something like almost 70 cents on a dollar for education goes towards paperwork/bureaucracy. I’m not even surprised by that figure.

We decided years ago since my job had health benefits my wife would start homeschooling the kids, despite the fact that she was starting to make really good money, as we didn’t want our kids in the system, and 3 kids in private school, juggling schedules, wasn’t going to work.

There are a lot of charter schools here that are both home schooling/learning in class a few times a month just to check their progress if a parent was worried about their child’s learning progress. Home schooling is daunting but much needed given how society acts these days. The fact that the DOE has been trying for several years to shutdown the charter school my child attends PROVES we are in the right place.

I’m not holding my breath but something like Rand Paul’s school choice bill would be amazing.  Put these indoctrination camps out out business!

Political Discussion / Re: We can open tourism now with all these tests

"This place is run by a bunch of inebriated a$$holes"
why insult drunks, and people that are difficult?
This place is run by Democrats, that are for the most part sober
and congenial.
But they are Democrats, and logic escapes them, as
it is too complex.

They behave in a similar fashion, it boggles the mind and doesn’t make any sense at all. It wasn’t a slight at drunks, just a comparison. Drunks have an excuse, they’re under the influence. Democrats and liberals don’t.

30,000 kits . Why don't we have a testing site for incoming visitors?

At the peak I believe the state was welcoming 30k visitors a day.

Even if the opening was gradual, I wouldn’t imagine these tests lasting more than a few weeks.

Even if the state wanted to plan to open, they don’t have the money for it as they are all FECKLESS MORONS.

Look at Anderson stepping down, the state epidemiologist Park stepping aside, to have a specialist fill in, only to have that specialist step aside because she can’t get anything done. I’m not even in favor of this contact tracing nonsense for obvious reasons, but they can’t even do that right, to our benefit.

This place is run by a bunch of inebriated a$$holes.

What's up with military arrivals and their families to Hawaii not observing the 14-Day quarantine?  Are the civilians living in Hawaii seen as expendable?

https://www.staradvertiser.com/2020/05/30/breaking-news/councilmember-kym-pine-questions-self-quarantine-exemptions-for-military-arriving-in-hawaii/

Flight crew, or rather what’s left of them have been exempt too. Think critically.

So sad  :(  One of my go to breakfast places on my days off. Also after many nights of drinking. Always some familiar faces with people that worked there for decades.

Been trying to support the various eateries that I used to go before all this. They are all hurting. Hope many make it through, but I’m guessing 50/50.

While part of me really feels for all these businesses, if these people are voting D or not voting at all, they deserve EVERYTHING that results.

14 deaths and we shut the state down for 60 days.

State officials don’t try to diversify and only rely on tourism for decades. Now that they’ve shot that golden goose in the head, they are nuking the remains.  We have that one Tesla level genius floating the idea of ankle monitors for incoming tourists.

Anyone try to fly in lately?

Even if you’re flight crew, which if so you are exempt from quarantine orders, you are met by HPD, state workers, and the national guard. They BARK at you to look left and head against the wall to take your temperature. Half of these morons don’t even know the rules and ask where you will be quarantining, despite the fact you are exempt if part of the flight crew.

These idiots destroyed the state, and they are leaving an extremely sour taste for the precious few who are coming in, or are still working.

Recovery?  With Kermit at the helm who can barely string a pair of sentences together?  Riiiiiiiight.

As the years go by, I see less people living here full time, the state taxing who’s left even more to try and make up for lost revenue, not realizing its them that are driving everyone out.

There is a lot of research you can do on line.
Since I only consider homes with at least 5 acres of land that makes it easier.
By law I'm not allowed to live in a city.
Check all costs such as dump, utilities, property taxes, car tabs, insurances,
food prices at the nearest stores, Crimes and types of crime in the area,
Medical facilities, lawyers on speed dial, bugs, animals, weather history,
et al.
Those costs add up and will tell you what kind of place it is.
That will greatly narrow your search.
Some years back I looked into re-locating back to WA state,
but in another more rural part of the state. than where I lived before.
All things being equal the costs told me to stay where I am.
So here I stay.
My advice is be careful before you jump.  It always looks greener
until you land and live there.

Appreciate the advice. I’ve never lived on larger properties but friends have told me more than 5 acres is a pain.  Hoping to get something around there, 1-5 or slightly more. The agreement is we can’t be further than 30-40min from a major town per the wife.

What I gather, CO is only democrat in Denver area.  Like other democrat dominated states: one or two large cities control a fairly normal state.  Was conservative for very many decades, so apparently a lot of liberals moved into Denver like happened to SF and LA in California.  Not a very tenable long term condition, inner city against the rest of the state..

Wife is thinking along those lines, though I am not.  If I leave for a place I can go shooting, not worry about checking my property at night armed, all the crap they keep coming up with here, no way I come back.

Arizona needs more conservatives moving there to offset the liberals from CA moving to Phoenix and Tucson.

That’s what I’ve heard as well. Most of Oregon/Washington even a Cali outside of the cities is really conservative. I gather CO is suffering the same fate. I’d hate to move somewhere and have similar “Hawai’i feelings” a decade down the road. Heck, even all the libs are moving to Boise as well.  Why isn’t there more blue states turning red!?

I’d hate to sell my place here because the appreciation has been steady for the last 100 years. Lol. It is attractive though. Selling high and taking that huge payout as opposed to the steady-eddy monthly cash flow.

Off Topic / Re: Countdown to Global Depression?
« on: April 19, 2020, 11:53:54 AM »

Hoping some other members can answer.

Two sides to story. What’s the positive side?
No Depression ? Quick rebound ?

This is coming from someone still relatively young, with 3 small children who is currently furloughed.

We’ve been homeschooling the kids from the beginning (charter school), so this is business as usual.  More parents will have to engage in home schooling and hopefully realize the liberal indoctrination that’s going on. That, and realize they can teach them themselves. This brings more parent child interaction, which will hopefully foster a better relationship and bring more parent involvement.  I believe this applies to rip off colleges too.

There is no sports (modern day colosseum) to distract the masses so people are hopefully being more productive with their time, learning a new instrument via lesson online, studying history, paying more attention to people in office, fixing their homes, tending to the piles that haven’t been tended to, etc.

Times like these makes people take a step back and realize what is really important. It’s easy to lose sight of that in today’s go go go world.

I don’t know what the future will hold, but there is always opportunity in crisis. There are industries that are thriving right now. Groceries, video chat apps, etc.

This is coming from someone who worries quite a bit as well.

Colorado! My cousins husband is from Colorado. They lived there for a few years and loved it. Huge beautiful mansion for about the same price as a 2 bdrm condo here
Plus there’s great elk hunting. Cold winters though, I think I could live in Colorado although like you mentioned I’m the “blueness” worries me.

https://www.freedominthe50states.org/

Can’t be that blue though!  I’ve heard the mag ban is super neutered, as in gun shops just sell you “parts kits.”

Based on the above link, it’s a hell of a lot better than HI!

I think I’ll like a Connifer better since there’s so much to do in the area but ID has to be one of the last states to turn I’d imagine, just like WY.

This state is broken. I hate to be “one of those people” that flee a state rather then stand and try to change the laws but I just see no light at the end of the tunnel. People here, especially Hawaiians, don’t give a crap about politics. This allows politicians to run unelected and propose and enforce crappy policies. I don’t see myself living here much longer.

With that being said, what state, if you had to, would you guys go to? I’d love to go to Wyoming. Clean air, secluded, unreal hunting and fishing, lax gun laws, just to name a few things. Frigid winters is the only thing stopping me. How about you guys?

I agree with everything you say. You can play a losing hand to the best of your ability but sometimes it makes sense to fold. My wife is open to the idea but we can’t be more than 30-40 min away from a major town. I’m looking at getting at least 1 acre with a house and don’t want to spend more than $500k.

I’m looking at specifically CDA in Idaho, and a Connifer Colorado.

We were looking at Durham NH because close to my wife’s family but Gave up when we realized prop taxes for a 300-400k house is around $10k!  :shake:

I worry about CO being more blue though. Most of the props there are $400-500k, 1 acre 2000-2500sq ft 3/2.  30 min from Denver.

CDA is about 30-40 min from Spokane, and I found some acreage and a nice house for less than $500k.

I worry about the cold for both and will miss the surf terribly, but the way I’m setting it up, I should be able to make solid cash flow renting out my property here, move to the mainland and have cheaper everything. I won’t need to make nearly as much. Probably would feel the same making half.

Not sure if my income will come back here, if it does anytime soon I’d be happy to make 50-75% of what I was making.  They say Hawai’i is hit the hardest and I have to agree hospitality states will feel the worst. Couple in the fact that the state is full of asleep citizens and corrupt lazy politicians that rather fight trump than get things rolling, and well, you get the idea.

This event has me really concerned living in one of the most remote places with a lot of people in a small area.

I like threads like these. Keep the info coming. More like minded people.
