Pete Butedgeedge?
Was there really that much he could do about it? Plus, doesn't he have a second in command for when he goes on vacation? Can't that guy handle the situation just fine or does Pete have some special abilities in this regard?
What democrat senators made up stories about Kavanaugh? They certainly slanted their questions but it was the lady (forgot name) who made the allegations, not congressmen.
Nonetheless, this isn't a whataboutsim, many democrats were dishonest and unfair in their questioning of Kavanaugh, just as many republicans were about Mrs. Jackson. One side's actions doesn't excuse the other here.
You don't remember Benghazi, apparently, when Obama and Clinton left to get some sleep before Obama traveled to Vegas the next day for a campaign visit? Four Americans died while they abandoned their posts -- the reasons are irrelevant.
You've obviously never held a job where you were in charge of something vitally important.
There's an old saying:
You can delegate authority, but you can't delegate responsibility. If the Director isn't there, and the assistant makes the wrong call, it's still the Director's responsibility.
When the SHTF, and the potential harm/damage is threatening to shut down the flow of goods across the country, you don't continue your vacation unless there's absolutely no way to get back to your office.
We spend BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to implement command centers for these people to operate inside of in a crisis. The systems are not designed for tele-commuting by the person in charge. Information comes in, it gets analyzed and briefed to the decision makers, and decisions are made & implemented. If you're out of the office, you're out of the loop.
The second in command is only there for routine work and decisions. His boss is the one who was appointed. He's the one given the responsibility to make these critically important decisions.
It might be true that his deputy, assistant, or whatever is more qualified then he is (I would not be surprised at all). He might be better able to handle these problems and keep the supply chain working. Great, if everything works out like that. But, the reality is, when things don't get better, who gets the blame? One person is responsible. All the others merely work for him -- they aren't there to do his job for him.
