i was with tomg at the funshoot today
i am too tired and drained to write more, but i shot 250 rds of 9mm
plus 60+ rounds of birdshot and less than 10 rounds of buckshot

i have a feeling that next saturday the stats are gonna be even higher

Today, at the LIFE fun shoot, I burned 100 rounds of .45 acp.  Moved to rhe rifle range and shot 40 rounds of 30-06 (25 of which was a reshoot of the MOA challenge) then went back to the fun shoot for 50 rounds of .22 and maybe 20 rounds of other people's ammo in assorted calibers.  I consider this representative of my typical post-Obamascare consumption, and I average 3 range visits per month.

that's not including .22lr, right?

No. That's probable a total.  I don't really shoot .22lr, as I don't think it's very effective to do what I need to do.  To me, if I was going to shoot .22lr, I would be just as good dry firing on my same action etc.

The reason my round count is very low is that I'm normally teaching and don't participate in all the drills / courses of fire during class.

Funny--I'm just the opposite, I get bored shooting rifles.  Handguns are more challenging for me.

at kokohead? maybe if it were action shooting or rapid-fire at a shorter range. shooting 25 yds (pistol side) or 50 yds (sillhouette side) at a static target makes me bored even thinking about it.

Let me know the next time you guys go so I can watch how fun it is. Maybe i'm doing it wrong

I've had the brass vultures trying to pick up my 5.56 brass as I was shooting a string.  I usually have a brass catching net, but I forgot it that day.  I politely told them that I am saving my brass and they didn't come back.

Regarding the original question, it depends why I'm going to the range.  It could be a little as 20-40 rifle ammo if I'm just zeroing an optic or 50 if I'm checking zero on a handgun.  Or it could be as much as 200 handgun for a competition or rifle if doing training courses of fire.  When I got my first handgun, I would shoot 300-400 at range trip, but that was back in the mid 90s at the range ammo was around $7-9/50.

Usually 150-200 9mm, or .40, usually once a week.  Haven't shot very much .45 lately, and I haven't shot my AR since case prices took off.  Took a 2 month (or so) break from live-fire practice as the kids were on summer break and, for me anyway, saw how quickly accuracy can diminish.  While many take issue with the 25/50 yard pistol range we have, it definitely has its benefits, even for USPSA type shooting.  I recently shot a stage that had 3 round plates set at 20 yards, backed by no-shoots.  These no-shoots also covered all but the upper A and B zones of 3 targets.  My accuracy sucked, my penalty points almost equalled my stage points and I learned (again) how important accuracy and practice can be.

Yes kokohead. Generally speaking, handguns are generally harder to hit targets with than rifles.  25 yard is a challenge. I am working on trying to improve my hit ratio and shooting speed using the handgun at the 25 yd paper target consistently.

I think, therefore I am armed.

I havent been there in awhile, but the last time the range, it was sort of empty on the right side, no one was by me on either sides. That day i didn't bring a brass catcher of any sort, so i was thinking my brass were all over the place! Well I thought wrong!!! Apparently somebody was picking them up while I was in prone, and left me 3 of the remaining brass that i needed to clear before the last call to get behind the line! Freakin sneaky guys!!!!But im cool with it..... so i call them the brass fairies....

I would defiantly shoot alot more if  we could load more than 5  rounds and rapid fire.   I completely wasted money at honolulu firearms indoor range. Lol.

+1  trying to hit the x at 25 yards with a pistol is more challenging for me than it is to whack the steel at 250 yards, so I burn more ammo when I shoot handguns.
