just bored. I understand that we can't order ammo online and that only certified shops can. Well what would it take to be certified to be able to order ammo? Can I open a shop at home just to be able to order? Or doo I need an actual store and then store it there?

Are you eligible to join the CMP?  They ship ammo to your door.  They just don't have a huge selection.

It was my understanding that you could order ammo online (from select vendors that are willing to ship to Hawaii) but that you are going to pay the hazmat fees for the shipping.  Either that, or you have to arrange to have the ammo shipped to a freight forwarder and have it shipped via slow boat to Hawaii.  In both cases, with the shipping charge you would need a large group order or you're better off just buying from a LGS. 

I know there are those who have gone in together on a group buy for a pallet or even a whole container, but that's a LOT of people to get together for a large order.

I guess I'll research which online stores are willing on shipping. I just thought it was illegal for normal people to buy ammo online.

Well Midway won't sell to Hawaii. Damn it's $26 a box for Federal Gold 175gr .308 match ammo compared to $39 locally.

After reading this thread i checked out ammo2go, I put 12 boxes of .223 in my shopping cart totaling around 130 dollars. The shipping estimate was 113 dollars.

CRAZY.

You not only have to pay for shipping, but also HAZMAT fee. The only time I would ever buy ammo online again is if 1) I have someone in the mainland coming back for a visit to bring back 11lbs worth with them, or 2) There is no way to get the ammo locally.

Why 11lbs? Sometimes we have relatives that visit us. Is there a restriction on how much ammo one can ship at a time on an airplane?

Most airlines limit you to 11lbs of ammunition per passenger. You have to check with your specific airline policy though.

I just check on price to ship to Hawaii.   50rds - 9mm Brown Bear 115gr. FMJ Ammo x 6 boxes was 107.70$ and 118.89$ to ship. But hey that shipping price included the hazmat fee...woooohooooo
