This.  Kokohead is the only public shooting range we have and we can't have it limited further.

And how do we know this Knudsen clown didn't orchestrate this broken window w/ a unfired round just so he can incrementally get rid of the KHSC? Seems like this fuckface has it in for the range and the 2A. But don't fret, he really, really wants our island community to embrace and promote the idea of matrimonial sodomy between same sex unions. Yep, Second Amendment bad, homosexual marriage good. That about sums up the deranged mentality of liberalism.

Exactly. 100 yard limit is laughable, and i find it totally unacceptable. i'm going to write to that Greg Knudsen character also. i think if they HAVE to put some kind of limit, we should demand it be something like 300-400 yards, 100 yards is a fucking joke.

start writing guys

Mayor Kirk Caldwell

I am at a party right now

The story I heard today is that it is NOT because of the Knudsen/Kalama valley incidents

I will write more later

Ok
Was at an okinawan party today
Mayor Caldwell and gov hobbit were there
Was going to ask the mayor about the range
My friend was sitting next to me is hpd
He said one of the black powder guys was shooting at the steel targets and a ricochet hit someone on the line

As much as I want to blame Knudsen, I think we need to wait until we hear the full story
I am sure someone at the range this weekend got the scoop from the ROs

Who is he?  The mayor or your HPD friend?  If this is the case, then why did a RO tell a different story at the range today?  One told me a 30 cal bullet hit a home or broke a window (something to that effect).  NO such talk of what you described as the black powder guys were still shooting steel targets at 50yrds/ maybe 25yrds today.  This is a shit show.

My friend in hpd
My message is to not jump to conclusions that it is Knudsen
And want to tar and feather him
I was at that point too
Bit now that I hear that their are other possible stories, I want to wait and see what all the data is

We need a letter writing campaign to keep the targets over 100 yards
Limit it to smaller calibers if needed.

Going to write to the Mayor.  Plus wouldn't it make more sense to shoot at targets further away to limit ricochets, not closer.  Why would you restrict to 100 yards then...  Whichever story is correct, we still gotta try and get the normal range restored.

could it be that the rifle range was only designed to be a 100 yd range? because of the recent incidents rifle range is being brought back to original design.

Even if it was, don't revert back.  This is the only public outdoor range on the island.  It's not like the mainland where they have lots of ranges around the state with different distances.

Talking to RO today he said they may let people put up paper targets and stands at some point. There is already six pipes in the ground at 200 for stands. No metal targets though.

Seems like a misplaced fix.... Based on the physics of this... Metal targets at 200-400 yards are not likely the source of errant slugs raining down a mile plus down range...

Is anyone on here a resident of the area served by this board?  Having residents to represent 2a issues articulately and attend this would be productive.

Also, I agree with comments that moving the line up makes no sense if ricochets are a concern... Shooting a target at 100yards.. The round will pass right through the cardboard and hit the backstop not much differently than if the target was at 200 or 300 yards. You can actually argue that having the targets closer to the backstop is safer because in the event they are deflected, by say a post, an equivalent angle deflection closer to the backstop would result in less overall deflection. In other words, moving the targets towards the backstop is actually safer.  Don't get me wrong, I don't think this is a big deal, but this is probably not intuitive to the neighborhood board. In their mind if the problem is having bullets go too far - the solution is to shoot at something closer. While we understand the absurdity of this, they evidently don't. Perhaps some graphics would help explain this? Get an expert to testify?

Range is not the issue, the type of target potentially is. While I think this Greg guy is making stuff up and do not believe the rounds he carries in came from the range..  One certainly would expect a higher probability of ricochet with angled heavy steel targets. So another way to make the case for safety would be to volunteer clearer guidelines for safe metal targets. Require they angle down slightly, for example. I realize this is already briefly mentioned on KHSC website, but perhaps these two points need to be clearly articulated to the board and homeowners in a way they can understand. To be clear, I think the existing targets are fine - this needs to be communicated.

Thoughts?

Folks it's understandable that these things are frustrating but venting on here won't result in action, we need to meet the concerns of the board members and educate them on how KHSC is safe, in language they understand.
