interesting question
i sent a message to the range day crew to answer

it's a dilemma re:training vs cost
it will depend on how often you plan on attending range days
and on your budget
if you plan on attending regularly, it would not be a problem if you used .22lr a few times in the long run
if you are not able to attend often, you are probably better off using the chance at realistic training using the ammo you will use in a self-defense situation, and saving the .22lr for when you go to the regular range and silhouette side
macsak answered it perfect.

Quick question on caliber. Would it be okay to start out with my .22 (M&P 15-22 & Sig Mosquito) since I'm just starting out and it will easy on the pocket book or do you think I should just leave them at home and bring the AR and 9mm since that's my main weapon systems?

I highly do not recommend using .22l pistols during training.  Them shit's malfunction all the time, and it's not really close to the same for your training.  If you get the mosquito dirty - it will not run (I say this after thousands of rounds through them, using them at the range etc.).

That's just my .02.  Take it for what you paid for it.

On the 22lr rifle, too many people can't afford to shoot with 5.56 or .223, so I always that's not a bad substitute; try to get a rifle that is close to your regular platform as possible.  The MP15-22 would be that.   If you can afford it, I would recommend using real ammo. If you can't, then yes - you are using the next best thing!

According to the calendar on the HDF website, this coming event is pistol only.  It even apologizes for the lack of rifle.  Which source is accurate?
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

the original post in this thread is accurate
chris is maintaining the HDF website, and it may not be totally accurate due to his new job and recent move
there will be a thread just like this one for each month's range day to keep everyone up to date

i will send chris a note letting him know about the calendar, thanks tom

jdelacruz- are you going to be sharing with your brother and cousin, or do they have their own setups?

mahalo for your feedback, chris

They all have their own set-ups. Thank you.

MPPL's schedule shows a match that day with their 101.  They typically take up both the large and small shooting bays, but I also haven't shot with them in a while, so maybe they changed.

Now I'll have to decide between three events that day.  MPPL, HDF or UH game.  The UH game is probably on the bottom of the list.

macsak

our 101 is different from their 101
MPPL 101 is to qualify you to shoot in their matches and is a requirement for newbies
HDF 101 is to familiarize new shooters to range safety and holstering/firing so that they may participate in the morning training session

I understand that. I wasn't saying that the two are related. Just that I was surprised to see both scheduled on the same day since MPPL usually takes both ranges (like I mentioned in my OP). Fitting 4 stages of fire on the big range with Slick as match director will be tight.

yeah, sorry
i was clarifying for all, not just for you

i sent a message to henry and kanoa to see if they are MPPL members (so they can clarify the bay situation) and to notify everyone that we may have space/parking issues

I think I will go with the AR this time around. I may bring both. I'm not even sure if I should bring my new Glock 19 or my SDVE9... gah decisions, decisions.

Coconut-kid

I'll be there.  Super excited 1st time newb at the bays.

if you cannot find what you need and get it shipped to you, post what you handgun is, and someone may have a spare to loan you

the most popular mag carriers at range days are the HSGI taco pouches
SEC has them on the wall behind the knife case
greenstomper was buying some on saturday when i was there
he said they are the same price as online
most everyone has the ones that have the rifle mag and pistol mag in one

Lifer

Gotta sit this month out  :grrr:

Have fun gentlemen ( and the rest of you degenerates)!  O0
