Hell, I'd have a bad attitude just having to have to clean all the guns he allows others to try !

I know, right?  I get annoyed if I have more than three to clean!
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

Daniel and his "crew" must've cleaned a hundred guns from the SSF, and worked until midnight to do so....

I visited this shop for the first time. I just got into the AR hobby, never ever am I going back. The guy needs a adjustment in his behavior. either he has "small man syndrome" or he was picked on when he a young man. I could say more about him but I won't because he is what he is. Aloha :shaka: ::)

Shooting Fair - Dano didn't get back to the shop till pretty late.   My buddy was so tired after helping at the fair and cleaning guns that he fell asleep and almost drove off the road.  Retard that he is, he still drove straight home afterwards instead of taking a nap in the Zippys or Jack in the Box parking lot.  (I'll remind him to include me in his will before the next shooting fair)

After hauling everything upstairs, I wish his shop moved to the 1st floor.

Yeah - I always try to buy something when I go to KGS since I also think that he does a lot for the shooting community.  I try to buy him dinner after the fun shoots too if I'm not too broke. (haven't gone to those in a while since I sold all my ammo)

Suarez International dose not have a standards test, like SIG SAUER Academy and Rogers Shooting School. I have been fortunate enough to atten

I'm hoping to go back to SSA for their master instructor in about a year or two, trying to work on my skills as they are slacking =/.   I passed the handgun instructor cert, but want to improve some more.

Better to get Daniel's opinion that some sleezy used car salesman trying to sell you something you don't want or need.... If I lived closer to his shop I would definitely frequent the shop, I learned a lot and he will not rip you off.... Plus I'd rather pay less for a gun that gets me the most bang for my buck, and he tells you straight....

I'll volunteer cleaning if I get to shoot all his guns for free....

The recent fun shoot we stay til midnight, because we had more help. The year before we stayed to 2/3. AM due to lack help partly many did not know about the cleaning part :)
Good  time to learn about firearms that one plans to buy with the help of Daniel teaching how to takedown and clean

Thought I would bring this post back up, since there is a new warning on his website.

POSTED:   Fair Warning

Sorry, no service given to anyone who:

- Argues/whines about firearms permit requirements (there's no instant fix

for improving HI laws so don't try to teach me about how it is better in

other states) - You think I like the restrictions we have here in Hawaii?

No dealer can complete firearm transfers unless person clears requirements!

If we aren't involved with the good fight and political effort, we cannot complain.

- Proclaims that I don't seem to appreciate military service personel

because further discounts aren't offered on prices already as low

as possible yet somehow keep doors open as a gunshop in Hawaii

- Insinuates they know more about firearms, training or tactics more than

others who haven't (as far as they think) served in a LE or MIL capacity

(and often end up revealing they recognize only one side of numerous tactical situations)

- Projects an attitude of deserved entitlement because they are better than others -

or worse, brags about much better they are since they conceal carry in other states.

If one is so superior, be humble and find out what it takes to bring others up to speed.

Amazing isn't it? There are those who go around presenting the above headaches

and I will not tolerate it - neither should the next good citizen in Hawaii or elsewhere

I've yet to form a solid opinion about the owner, but I am on his website quite a bit.  I'm the kind of guy that likes to read and do my research before hand.  He is one of the only gun shop owners with a website that is regularly updated and has his prices listed.  Other gun shops on Island to be very... tight lipped about their prices and stock which makes it nearly impossible to comparison shop (which I suppose, is the intent).

If I need to hear some stories and a little bit of boasting, but I get to go home with exactly what I came in to purchase and not get the run-around-- seems like a worthwhile visit to me.

Daniel does do tons for the local 2A community with the shooting fair, fun shoots, awareness, etc. If you're not ready for his honest opinion and a possibility of not agreeing with you, don't ask for it because he IS honest. He is a no-nonsense advocate who stands behind what he sells and what believes in. I bought my first gun and some hard to find items from him that other stores didn't have.

After reading that whole diatribe, in summary - There is no customer service offered at his shop. Don't know why he is whining about his customers to other customers. Smile at a customer and sell stuff.
Other gun stores do that here in Hawaii. Its part of - well - being in business. For example, My ex GF went in to OGC with those same topics Dan warns about and she walked out with 2 pistols and a whole bunch of accessories. That's great salesmanship right there.
In a perfect world we would have a perfect customer who would walk in and buy something with no interaction what so ever. If that's the case, we should have vending machines instead of brick and mortar gun stores.
Hence we have salespeople.
Liken this to a marriage.
As Chris Rock stated, all a man cares about is food, sex and being quiet. All you married men know there is no food and sex without lending an ear to the wifey.
As I stated in my earlier post he lost a customer years ago that goes beyond his level of customer service and the issue lies in his core ethics. This whole "fair warning" is evident of a business that lost respect for their customers. Or maybe he just needs a hug? Someone to vent to? Or a Facebook account?

I am not sure why it isn't showing on Yelp but here is my review that I posted a few years ago. Why wouldn't my review show anymore? Seriously, if I log in, it will show my review, but if I am not logged in, it will not show my review, even if I search for the keywords... Anyone know why? Nevermind, yelp doesn't show non recommended reviews. Some computer program filters reviews by users depending on their activity, review quality, etc. Oh well.

I do think he might have a mild social disorder from the way he interacts with people. I forgot to mention in my review that Daniel yelled at me when I talked to another one of his customers. Someone came in to sell Daniel some old WW2 Japanese rifles and I saw this and asked him about them. Daniel told me not to talk to him and then told the other customer that he was there for him only and he couldn't talk to me either.

"I have been in this store about 5 times, purchasing items 2 or 3 times and I have decided never again. Even if they have an awesome deal on a product I still wont go and I will tell you why.

Daniel, the owner, is both the best and worst kind of salesman.
He will not try to sell you something you do not need and he will even advise you against buying something that will probably be a waste of money for you like a firearm for the wrong purpose or accessories that are a waste. So great, he is a salesman who you can trust, but then he goes on a tirade about how this product sucks (even though he sells it) and that product is just a fad etc. basically making you feel stupid and ridiculed for even asking.
EXAMPLE: "Do you have vertical foregrips for the AR-15?" Reply: (in a very irritated tone) "Why would you even want one? They are a gimmick, people don't know how to use them, the pros don't use then why do you need one? Why don't you just spend time and money practicing with iron sights instead of buying this product and not knowing how to shoot?"
I took my friend there to look at buying his first rifle or shotgun and Daniel basically pointed out to him that he did not even know how to hold the rifle properly and asked why he should even waste time showing the gun to him.

He is apparently an experienced instructor and a very proficient  shooter so I tried to like him and respect his opinion but I got tired of feeling like an idiot just for asking a question about a product. Every time I went in his store I said "hi" when I came in and all he did was look up with a stern face and look back down at his work. He never acknowledged a thank you either.

The selection is pretty decent and the prices are fairly good so it is a good place to shop as long as you don't mind an extremely rude and insulting salesperson.

BOTTOM LINE: He may have valuable advice on products but no amount of expertise justifies the horrible way he treats his customers."

Spot on Tom-G

Mr. Oshima at the shop is not the same Mr. Oshima at the range.
Wifey and daughter kinda freaked out at first visit to the shop but after some private time on the range, he is now on their "Christmas Cookie List" which is an elite list.

I wanna get on 'The List' (Elite Christmas Cookie List) :worship:

I think Daniel has the shop only to get ammo and guns for all of the events he has and helps others with.
Mr. Oshima at the shop is not the same Mr. Oshima at the range.

With out Daniel donating his time, his plethora of guns and supplies of ammo for LIFE Classes, Fun shoots, Shooting Sports Fair, National Hunting and Fishing Day and other events, these days would definately not be as enjoyable or educational, nor would others have the oppoortunity to "catch the bug".

Absolutely, my first experience with Daniel was the fun shoots. He helped us with technique, was very patient, and even a few rounds to shoot high-power.
As a salesman...I understand the struggle to call him that. Whenever I step into his shop, I am prepared with cash,  documents, and an cup of patience. When I think salesman, I think GlenGary/GlenRoss: Always Be Closing. I totally believe he's losing potential sales, but if this has been his demeanor over the last few years, I don't believe he's losing sales he's not willing to close on and I totally respect anyone wanting to take their business elsewhere.

I've never been to his shop because I got too much junk at my house already.
But I know the sacrifices he has made for the benefit of the local firearms community.
He walks the walk.
And that is a  in my book.

And that is a  in my book as well.

Plus he has always given me good deals and treated me fairly

No one is above a little bashing, and I suppose Daniel is an easy target.  He's opinionated, outspoken, and a little deficient on social skills.

That being said, he is one of the most dedicated proponents of 2A rights in the state.  He has been organizing and running the HRA/LIFE fun shoots for a decade.  He brings a CARLOAD of guns to each of those events, and donates hundreds of dollars of ammo so that people can try them every month.  He donates guns and other prizes to 2A fund raisers such as the FNRA dinner.  He gives cases of ammo and allows the use of dozens of his guns for the Shooting Sports Fair.  He teaches with LIFE, and when he does, brings more guns than the rest of the other instructors combined.  He's tireless, and makes me embarrassed to call myself an advocate by comparison.

Does he really know his stuff?  I'm not into the whole tactical / tacticool training thing, but he is hired, on a fairly regular basis, by the US military to conduct training for them.  My favorite is the Navy hiring him to train things like "how to retake your ship after it has been boarded."  Whatever he may be full of, it's something that our troops are benefiting from.

I'm not saying you have to like him.  I'm certainly not saying your negative experience, if you've had one, is invalid.  I am saying the guy is a force for good with few equals in this arena.
I think Tom G said it best for me as well. He gives tirelessly to the HRA and we all benefit from his dedication. I just let the rest of it go.

I'm a fan.  As a newbie, he made me feel comfortable (in his store) and confident (with my purchase).  I live in Kapolei and gladly make the trip to support his business.  Didn't know he did so much for the 2a community.  Awesome.

I wish other stores would post their inventory and prices on their websites. Save both of us the phone call.

If you're failing to plan, then you're planning to fail.
