with only about 1% of individual tax returns audited per year in this country , i'm curious to find out how many people applied for a permit to acquire in 2013 only to be audited on their 2012 tax forms .
I'm single, i don't own a business or property , in 2012 i was a full-time student and made about $17,000 . .
I was audited and the IRS said i owed $1,000 because they took away my education credit stating they couldn't verify i was in school for 2012.
With so much surveillance and everything else this day in age I find it hard to believe they couldn't see that i was in school ..
but regardless , i should be considered low risk for an audit based on the fore mentioned circumstances.
That's when it dawned on me that i had applied for a rifle permit at the start of the new year and by tax time 2013 I had a AK47 and a letter from the IRS saying i owed money
I know it would be impossible for me to find out the actual statistics about this however i would like to hear what everyone thinks.
I have a suspicion that the IRS takes a special interest in people trying to acquire firearms and anything over 1% of the estimated 13,000 new permit holders being audited would prove it.
